i just ordered Windows XP Professional x64 Edition trial softwarethat should work right?
9/15/2006 6:23:52 PM
no, pci card isn't needed since your BIOS/motherboard IS showing it as 400gbxp trial software will only work 30 days then it will lock you out, but worth a shot i guess.i can't believe no one else has any ideas...[Edited on September 15, 2006 at 8:28 PM. Reason : .]

what enclosure did you get? are you using FireWire or USB to attach it?if you're using FireWire with the enclosure recommended earlier in the thread, you should probably note the following excerpt from the manufacturer's website:

its internali just checked my enablebiglba registry key or whatever and its set to 1thats the only thing i can think of out of everything i found that i didnt check/do

alright, let me go ahead and have you clarify a few things for me thenit is the 400GB Seagate SATA drive, correct?are you using a seriallel adapter?are the appropriate IDE/SATA chipset drivers installed or are you using generic Windows drivers?is there a 128GB clip jumper on the drive? is it set? what does the drive appear as in the Adminsitrative Tools disk management shizzle?if it appears as 400GB with a 127GB partition, have you tried deleting the 127GB partition and creating a 400GB partition? if any of your fixes worked, you *will* have to recreate the partition and reformat the drive for it to appear as a ~400GB "E:\" or whatever drive letter it is.

1) its ATA2) i dont know3) i installed this drive using Seagates software if thats what you mean...so i would imagine everything software-related is in order4) the only jumper i know of sets the drive as a slave. it is set correctly.5) i found that but where do i find the size it is recognized as?6) ^ok i think i found itit saysdisk 1 disk 2 vol1 244.61 GB basic 128.00 GB NTFS unallocated372.61 Healthyonlinedo i need partiion magic or something like that now?[Edited on September 22, 2006 at 9:34 PM. right click the first partition and tell it to delete itthen right click the unallocated space and tell it to create a partition, click next a bunch and then you're donebut you should still probably verify that your chipset drivers are not the generic IDE chipset drivers and are the latest version available from Dell, for best performance and stability[Edited on September 22, 2006 at 9:37 PM. if i go to my computer -> properties then it shows the pie chart but only mentions 127 GB
9/22/2006 9:36:15 PM
yeah, what you are checking in My Computer is the size of the filesystem, which resides in the 128GB partition that was created initiallythe device itself is being detected correctly, you just need to repartition itif you do not want to lose your data you should use partition magic, yes
9/22/2006 9:37:21 PM
