instrumental rock pretty much doesn't happen:silver mt zion, gybe, mogwai, explosions in the sky (i think i've heard them a few times)locals:a problem of alarming dimensionscantwell gomez and jordanmaple stave (they're about half the time instrumental)
9/1/2006 2:04:14 PM
ive played mogwai and explosions in the sky. gybe is alittle tricky because most of their songs are so drawn out and boring for radio.and local stuff isnt my problem

we have a hippie hour......listen then

complaint:wkncrequests is off instant messenger right now.other times when i've tried, the people have obviously just ignored it.
9/1/2006 2:43:35 PM
call up, aim sucks
9/1/2006 2:47:21 PM
why? it seems like a far more efficient way of requesting, don't have to worry about spelling etcalso: 1) I'm at work, i don't want to walk away from my desk for a couple minutes when i could spend 20 seconds requesting it on aim2) why does the aim name exist if people aren't going to use it?it's just another instance of dj's being lazy if you ask me. they don't want to "bothered" by people on aim.[Edited on September 1, 2006 at 2:58 PM. AIM is much better than calling. half the time when i try to call the line is busy. if DJs would do the AIM thing, i could just AIM and leave a message, rather than wait 20 minutes to get on the phone.
9/1/2006 3:25:21 PM
if you even think for a second I get so many phone calls anyone will have to wait for 20min you're....wrong. And calling is much more personal, I just like it better. I would rather talk to a human than have someone just typing me shit. I guess thats because im the dj and I think people are lazy and should just call me. It makes me feel better.
9/1/2006 4:22:58 PM
i swear to god, it's taken me forever to get thru sometimes.
9/1/2006 4:34:23 PM
are you requesting to the afterhours guys?
9/1/2006 4:39:56 PM
nope, in the daytime. this was over the summer pretty much, though, if that has anything to do with it.
9/1/2006 4:58:54 PM

enough of the indy whiny emo shit, its like everytime i'm listening to 88.1 on the way to work/class in the morning i'm listening to the same vocalist/band, although i do hear a song i like every now and again.how about some stand up comedy?i'm a big classic rock fan, but the stations i listen to around raleigh (1061 and 961) don't play enough of the rarely heard (at least rarely heard now in 2006) classic rock songs.i fucking hate bob the blade but he does bring out some kickass stuff sometimes for the 420 smoke break. i just love hearing music from that generation that i haven't heard before or that isn't in their playlist.[Edited on September 2, 2006 at 8:20 PM. 9/2/2006 8:13:54 PM
Ok, here's the solution, I think, I know you, too, btwMonday - Friday, wait first.... Let's drop all the hippie indy emo techo shit you guys play in the mornings, none of those pussies in the humanities dept have time to listen to it then either, wait wouldn't playing that crap on the radio just defeat the purpose of anti mainstream anyways? I dunno, let's just drop it and go to something worthwhile. In the morning, I want something to wake me up not a lullaby from modest mouse or Ivy.> METAL <You can easily conquer any n.c radio station by simply playing a variety of metal, from Alice to W.A.S.P, I havn't heard any station that plays a nice set of 80's and 90's rock without focusing on one song every other thirty minutes. You guys can afford to do this, I don't think it would kill you either to try out something new and proven to work.
9/2/2006 9:14:21 PM

9/3/2006 10:01:19 AM
im sorry to make you sad but we arnt going to play W.A.S.P. any time soon unless Phil the chainsaw guy plays it because its funny. We arnt looking to beat anyone in the radio market, we just want to play independent music that doesnt get airtime on comercial radio. This is regardless of what it is....indie rock, metal, electronica, indian music, spanish stuff.....whatever it is.and jamie had very little to do with format when he was station manager. Mike and Kate were the music directors and alot of the stuff they put in the computers is still played today which is a problem. We are updating alot of stuff and trying our best to add alot of new music. Thats why I made this tread and A Capella is on right now and im pretty sure Roman Candle is in rotation right now. Either that or Steve-o just plays it during is local show.[Edited on September 3, 2006 at 12:43 PM. Reason : ~]

just fire "mojo on the radio." he has the single most grating voice i've ever heard in my life.if knc played any late 60s-70s pysch or kraut rock mixed in with the 8 indie bands on the playlist than maybe i'd listen more. and seriously, i feel like every 10 songs you guys play a song off of the new cursive cd, which is musical diarrhea. put a ban on cursive, of montreal, tapes n tapes, clap your hands say yeah, etc
9/3/2006 12:58:08 PM
bluegrass
9/3/2006 1:01:41 PM
9/3/2006 1:10:31 PM

9/3/2006 1:41:37 PM
don't touch afterhours, and bring back strictly reggae. who do you honestly think listens to Acapella?
9/3/2006 2:18:41 PM
2ndterd for reggae. Can you guys fit any foriegn musics in there? And, ok, I was pushing it with W.A.S.P
9/3/2006 2:39:58 PM
I dont know what happened to the reggae show. And during the weekends we have an Indian show and a Latino show which are both good. These just dont make up the bulk of our format.and Im adding some edgier music into rotation...so less electro dance pop.

9/4/2006 1:16:59 AM
9/4/2006 1:58:27 AM
If they couldn't find djs to do chainsaw I'd consider doing it again just to keep the show going. Its been going for 15 years.
9/4/2006 2:12:06 AM
Kinda off-topic, but what's the song that gets pretty heavy rotation with the chorus "When you can't break through/it's the one that you want" or something? I checked the playlist but I don't know which one it is.
9/4/2006 2:03:59 PM

9/5/2006 10:06:25 PM
I know you still have the Hippy hour, but I liked with it came on at Noon on Sat and played until ?3pm?Also, bluegrass (and "newgrass") is something knc shouldn't miss out on. Maybe a show saturday morn?Afterhours == keep it alive. And anyone that thinks ""jam bands"" are shit... go listen to G105 and go away.Keep the metal for the folks that love the Chainsaw. There's no doubt it's a hit. Has been, and always will be.
9/5/2006 10:26:19 PM
be more like http://kexp.org
9/6/2006 9:07:07 AM
well looking through their playlists.........we play all that stuff.and Im puting Sluts of Trust into the computer right now....so rock out
9/6/2006 11:03:14 AM
you play some of that stuffkexp plays a much wider variety of genres during the daytime hoursi've put serious time into listening to both stations, they are by no means carbon copies of each other...main difference being that kexp seems to cater to an older audience, which wknc probably couldn't do, considering the age group that generally works therethe biggest turn-off that i've had with wknc since they got that blasted automation machine around the turn of the century is the volume of repeat radio and the sheer narrowness of some of the dj's playliststhis by all means does not include everyone that works there...for example, i really like Bigfatsac's sets
