how about the best one under $100 dollars?
12/22/2006 12:13:52 AM
thats like asking what gas station has the best free paper towels
12/22/2006 12:38:51 AM
ahahaha thats a good analogybut, while they arent that good, they're at least something. I never got a ticket with my old cheap assed whistler, but with the valentine one, ive gotten 2 tickets go figure. And I know V1 will pay for your ticket or whatever, but I dont own the V1, I borrowed it from a friend while he had no car.
12/22/2006 1:00:04 AM
the v1 is a tool, not a magic wand
12/22/2006 1:05:03 AM
V1 will pay for your ticket? I never read that. and even so. That's gotta be bull because I'm sure they aren't gonna pay if you get clocked 140 in a 65. Or maybe they'll pay just the ticket while you sit in jail???? [Edited on December 22, 2006 at 7:00 PM. Reason : .]
12/22/2006 7:00:13 PM
they don't pay, thats a myth
12/23/2006 1:04:48 AM
Im curious (i dont own a radar detector) :How often do you guys have a laser alarm go off?
12/23/2006 1:39:14 AM
when a QX45 is behind me
12/23/2006 1:45:46 AM
the 900nm QX45
12/23/2006 2:06:26 AM
oops i meant qx56
12/23/2006 1:25:16 PM
with laser, isn't it true that once your detector goes off from detection you have already been tagged by the laser?
12/23/2006 1:28:39 PM
indeed
12/23/2006 1:59:11 PM
I had a whistler back in the day that served me very well, but I didn't speed that often, so I was pretty statistically safe either way. On long trips to the beach and back it would always warn me well before I could see the cop under an overpass and it saved me once in the city too. They are cheap but not horrible for the under $100 category.

i'm pretty happy this thread came up cuz i'm actually in the market for one, and i'm trying to decide between the bel and passport (ones compared to V1 on previous page). anyone owns any of those models and wants to part with one or just recommend which one to get. on ebay escort sells for about 250 shipped (red led) and blue is 30 more, and bel sells for about 230 shipped. bel------->http://tinyurl.com/y6pz3fescort --->http://tinyurl.com/yamkxf[Edited on December 24, 2006 at 10:16 AM. 12/24/2006 1:22:52 PM
i'm thinking about picking up one of those Bel STI Drivers...

<3 my V1

V1 won't pay for your ticket. I just got a nice little ticket in VA for 78 in a 65...I wish it was worthy of a fucking ticket, but 13 over is just bull shit. I was just rollin on 95 and my V1 NEVER went off...not once. (I pulled it down and hid my V1 as he pulled me over) I was a huge V1 fan, but now...I am not too sure. The officer was nice enough to show me the radar read out, though he informed me that he was not required to do so. He was not using laser, but he didn't tell me what band he was using. He just had my speed, and "Radar "S"" for stationary on my ticket. He told me how to get the ticket dropped for only $55. (take the god damn online traffic school class).
12/26/2006 11:30:34 AM
Shouldn't you be happier about the prospect of having your VA ticket dropped for $55, w/out evening stepping out of your house at that?Ahmet
12/26/2006 12:13:56 PM
Be careful in VA. They're pretty tough on Radar Detectors in cars.
12/26/2006 12:32:50 PM
I think the cop gave me a break because I have Rescue tags on my car. I am just thrilled that for $55 court fee and $35 class fee the ticket will be dismissed. I am happy to keep my clean driving record.I would just like to know what type of Radar he tagged me with that didn't cause my V1 to go off at all.[Edited on December 26, 2006 at 1:30 PM. Reason : )]
12/26/2006 1:30:02 PM
i'm torn between the V1 and the new Bel STi Driver (their super top shelf offering...even more expensive than the V1).
12/26/2006 5:51:59 PM
he measured in sperm velocity.
12/26/2006 5:53:40 PM
i could be inticed into selling my V1.....................................................................................................................
12/26/2006 6:28:38 PM
how come, and which version?
12/26/2006 6:34:15 PM
mine's a V1.8-POP1. There is a newer V1.8-POP2 i see. the new version is suppose to help w/ false POP alarms. *shrug*I have the box, receipt, all cables, cords, plugs, mounts, etc. whatcha got?
12/26/2006 11:08:48 PM
how bad is the POP falsing problem? my experience with a V1 was before the whole POP thing was ever in the picture.

I have had an Escort 7500 for years. Have thought about upgrading, but the thing has been so damned good. I have had a laser detection once. Flipped me out, because it makes a really odd sound. Didnt appear to be a cop, though. The thing has saved me from countless tickets. On the instances that I did get a ticket, it was me not following my own rules (dont speed unless you have something in front of you), and never speed on the way to the outer banks (actually, the second rule would pretty much cover everything). I travel about 25,000 miles a year.
12/27/2006 12:23:23 AM
If you want a good radar detector then go with the Beltronics BEL RX65. This past year it's performance was just under that of the Esscort 8500 x50, but it has a built-in upgrade to the new Ku band that the police are going to start using this year. With other detectors you'll have to buy the upgrade to read it, but with the RX65 you just activate it.Plus, if you're really going to be speeding and have some money to spend then get a radar jammer to go along with it. The Blinder M20-X tremewas tested to be one of the best. Total for both detector and jammer is gonna be about $700, but if it gets you out of 2 or 3 major tickets it's worth it.
12/27/2006 12:49:01 PM
RADAR jammers are dumb. passive jammers don't work at all, and active jammers will land you in the butt hut (or at least rack up some huge fines for you) if you get caught. LASER jammers are a different story.I broke down and ordered a new V1 today. I figured I wouldn't be able to get a used one for cheap enough to justify, well, getting a used one (and not having a warranty and as much factory support, etc).
12/28/2006 2:40:47 AM
^agreed.Yeh the other detector false alarms are kind of annoying. I thinking about keeping 'er and buying the upgrade.. hrmm someday.

12/28/2006 6:36:01 PM
thinking of selling my V1, not because anything is wrong with it, but because when I sell the BMW I wont have any real need for it...
12/28/2006 7:59:21 PM
how much do you want for it? i wont be in town until tomorrow so just send me a PM. and if anyone else has either an escort or v1 they might be interested in selling, holla @ me, otherwise i'll just go buy a new one somewhere.
1/1/2007 3:56:34 PM
I don't feel that the false alarms in the V1 are at all that bad. I'd rather filter my own false alarms than have the radar do it for me and accidently fail to tell me there is a cop ahead.
1/2/2007 10:33:22 PM
somedays i am just happy to hear the V1 go off at alli dont drive as much as i used to...
1/2/2007 10:35:50 PM
got my V1 today
1/3/2007 12:33:01 AM
I got my first real laser warning w/the V1 today on 440 outer, just pass the Cary Pkwy exit. I don't know why the cop didn't pull out, I was doing about 75 when it went off (in a 55), I hit the brakes hard to about 62, the point at which I maintained my speed. He continued to clock me for several more seconds...Ahmet
1/3/2007 1:16:53 AM
wow, everytime i hear the laser warning im behind chevy trailblazer/GMC envoy
1/3/2007 1:58:22 AM
troopers use tahoes now, to make good use of taxpayers money (12mpg hwy is not bad right? lol)
1/3/2007 7:21:33 AM
1/3/2007 12:06:23 PM
my friend is willing to sell me his Escort 8500 that he bought this past year for $150, should I take him up on it or wait a little longer and buy something else?
1/3/2007 2:13:32 PM
I was about to sell my V1 because I was convinced all radar detectors dont help enough but, then it saved me 3 or 4 times over the holidays
