stop acting like a little kid.

you were making a very broad assumption that anyone who has tried ketamine knows this is a bad idea....i was merely pointing out that that simply isn't true. you were speaking for yourself, not everyone.

when will people learn that their opinion on things is not the "be all end all" mass opinion on a subject.

even if ketamine were to have legitimate medicinal uses (besides being a traquilizer), it's not like they are going to unschedule it, so i don't see why this is even an issue. the drug has been around for decades and they sheduled it in 1999 because people were abusing the fuck out of it.

kudos to you for finding this article though, im sure the medical community is furious that they won't be able to prescribe people K-holes for depression!

That's funny...last time I checked, Ketamine was a schedule III drug.

Let's look at some other schedule III drugs:
- codeine
- morphine
- anabolic steroids
- barbiturates
- hydrocodone

It's interesting how you say that the medical community won't be able to prescribe ketamine, yet somehow they are able to prescribe other schedule III drugs. So either the medical community is breaking the law, or you don't know what you're talking about.

I'd go with the latter.

i wasn't aware that any of the schedule 3 drugs you listed could legally be prescribed to treat depression, since you know, drugs have to be used for their intended purposes.

you learn something new every day i guess!

oddly enough, Ketamine is also listed as a depressant under schedule 3...

what are talking about? of course they aren't used for depression. that has nothing to do with it. you said they would have to unschedule the drug for it to be prescribed, and that's not true.

just because ketamine isn't prescribed for depression right now doesn't mean that it can't be in the future.

why isn't it currently prescribed for depression then?

its called "off label use" and requires specific protocols for use

the FDA can, with the right amount of research, reschedule it or approve it for limited use.

laws can and have been rewritten.

sure they can, but it doesn't happen that often- the FDA and government tend to ban things, not overturn bans

marijuana is still a class 1 drug even though it has dozens of proven medicinal uses...nobody ever said the way drugs were scheduled was entirely logical

hey UJust.

my wife is a clinical research nurse, and she manages numerous studies of multiple patients taking experimental drugs for a variety of purposes, all with the very real prospect of getting FDA approval in the very near future. and she is personally only involved in a tiny tiny fraction of the clinical drug research going on every day in this country.

i dont know half of what she knows about all this stuff, but i do know you dont have a clue what youre talking about.

If low-dosage Ketamine is proven to be an effective treatment for depression, even if only in narrowly defined cases, it will automatically be added to the list of tools for any physician or psychiatrist to use in their treatment plans. and FYI, Schedule III drugs can be called into your local pharmacy, but apparently with this one its an injection, done by the physician, so you wont be taking home any vials from Walgreens. Sorry.

A lot of psychedelics have the same effect. It's just been within the last decade or so that the momentum to conduct more research into it has regained credibility (as if scientific results had somehow changed along with our drug laws ).
