wouldnt a 100% efficient engine get mc^2 energy from it's fuel? And 160% efficiency could mean going past the speed of light [Edited on August 9, 2006 at 12:28 AM. Reason : sdfsdf]

you cannot compare efficiencies of engine design if one engine's mechanism of extracting energy from the fuel is different. not all physical laws in the universe are based on the internal combustion engine, i suppose thats news to oil-company robber barron supporters like loneshark.you could make a a very light car run by spooling gasoline stored 20 feet above the car through a series of turbines (and not combusting it), but to compare the efficiency with a car that combusted gas would be stupid.[Edited on August 9, 2006 at 12:33 AM. On a somewhat related note (this probably deserves its own thread):

Ethanol would be a great idea; all we need to do is eliminate tarriffs on imported ethanol and we can have all we want from South America. Hell, eliminate the tarriffs on sugar-cane and we can make our own. Regretfully the corn farmers prefer Americans to suffer dead-weight losses buying corn-ethanol (mankind expended more resources producing it than consumers paid for it).
