BTTT

The Demo has been leaked!

Actually it hasn't, it came on the PC Gamer disc that shipped recently, but it has already made it's way onto the torrent sites before most people even got the mags.

This is a shot taken by myself a few mins ago. Needless to say, the game looks great.

Bring out ya dead!!

Demo has a tutorial and 2 historical battles, Agincourt and Pavila.

Date set at Nov 14th (~8 days).
There really are alot of good games coming out in the next couple months.

On another note, I am wondering if you guys feel the same way about this game.
Rome was my first taste of the total war games. I played that, and both expansions. I am excited for this game but it for some reason I feel that its gonna be a let down because it will be similar to RTW.

And I really shouldnt feel this way. You have revamped graphics, maps, units, animations, diplomacy, priests, princesses, merchants, citys vs castles, new Era.

Just seems like the battles will be nothing but, form a solid line, flank everything on one side and dominate. Maybe the battles will be the most similar to RTW out of everything.

What I really need to do with this game is get into the multiplayer more. That is if my horrible wireless connection will let me.

Well I started with MTW, which in some ways (battle AI, battle speed, kill rates) was better than RTW. From what I have seen of M2TW, it's getting back more toward the original, which is a step in the right direction.

my first one was shogun total war

mtw is better than rtw in several ways but rtw is superior in naval combat and unit manuvering

I played shogun after I had played Medieval.

I didn't like it that much, every faction was exactly the same.

So how was the transition from one Total war game to another? As in, do you find yourself enjoying the game as much as you did the first?

I started with MTW (and the expansion), didn't like Rome as much.... I think this one could be good. But I will have no time to play it before Christmas break, so that doesn't help much.

i think the biggest jump in 'fun' was between Shogun and Medieval I.... RTW was fun the first 2 times i went through it but after that it kinda lost it's luster.... in some ways RTW over simplified the combat... they didn't have right vs left flank advantages/penalties (you want to always flank to the left on the non-shielded side) but I did really like the way the phalanx formations worked actually pushing from the spear points....

the naval system in M:tw is utter crap though.... the AI doesn't play fair there and the trade system is a pain to maintain when you go to war as a result...

that said I am really looking forward to MII:tw a lot. just think of a massive siege against multiple ring walls, tower defenses and eventually cannon!

Seriously though. Can you imagine that type of seige? I cant. If the AI can actually retreat to inner walls EFFECTIVLY, then they might actually have a chance. the inner walls cant really be hit with underground tunnels, and it would be much hard I think to hit the inner rings with any type of seige weapons. And if you do manage to fail at breaching the inner walls, you can still do some damage by destroying the buildings that you do have access to(hopefully).

One of the problems I had with RTW is that I never got seiged. I never had an enemy on any flank ever have enough time to build up an army I couldnt stop reaching my cities and actually attack it. I would just sally forth or bring an army to attack it from outside the city. Maybe its because I moved to fast, or maybe I should have put the game on the hard setting, but I never ever lost a city to an invanding army.

But now that we have this whole city vs castle thing, maybe the dynamic has changed to wear you will be more vunerable to cities being captured.

Additionally, a HUGE difference in this game will be the fact that you can train MULTIPLE units per turn. Which means that you could potentially have a border faction declare war and have an army come out of nowhere and be on top of you. This will change all the typical playing strategies for the campaign map part of the game.

^If you play RTW on hard or Very Hard, especially against numerous foes like the Egyptians, you will be sieged and often.

I've only lost a siege once or twice, when I didn't have an adequate garrison, but I've defended cities many times. It's actually the most fun part of RTW.

Hopefully they actually improved sieges in MTW2.

Only experience I had with the hardest settings was with the RTW Demo before the game came out. I saw the hardest settings as kind of pointless, because it looked like the only real way you could win in the actual game on hard was if you did everything perfectly. Which, for me, would mean saving a loading when I messed up a little.

That fight in the demo could only be won if you did certain things exactly right. Seemed that would take some of the fun out of the game.

My favorite part of this game is having zero multiplayer games up in the lobby and whenever I try to create a new multiplayer game I get disconnected from the gamespy network.

What a hunk of shit. Good job on debugging before you went Gold.

" Due to some compatibility issues with different versions of the game, some users may experience difficulties playing multiplayer games. Specifically, users with download versions of the game will temporarily not be able to play against users with DVD versions (and vice versa). Also, users with different language versions may also experience trouble.

SEGA and The Creative Assembly are working on this issue and will post an update as soon as it has been resolved. Until then, please know you should have no problems playing the single player campaign.

Stay tuned for updates. "

It's not really a multiplayer game anyways...

There's enough to keep you busy in the campaign for months.

Try out all the different factions, for example.

^^ That's not true, it is a great game for MP.

If it isn't working now it's disappointing, but I'm sure they will get it fixed soon.

I would recommend playing the campaign in the mean time, so you don't get spanked hardcore.

^I was just pointing out that he has months worth of gameplay while they fix the bugs.

To use the ladders, God, just click on the wall you wish to apply them to...if your troops already have them manned. If not, you need to select your troops, then click on the ladders to get them to pick them up, then on the wall.

I have noticed. I started with the english.

The fucking rebels have better infantry then the english levy men. And its kind of a bitch to build up enough to get better soilders.

Rebels are no joke anymore.

Yeah I'm the Holy Roman Empire, and I've been getting massacred in battles against Prague. I guess I just don't understand how to play. I sit there watching the turns go by and I'm just like "WTF...?"

I'm trying to understand how to play, but it's quite complicated and the learning curve is steep.

And I think that the calvary charged in this game do alot more initial damage.

^^ haha, nope. but I did turn all the "hints" on.... I guess I'll go play the tutorial .

I guess I'm just not used to turn based because I've never played them before. To me the most agonizing thing about this game is sitting there hitting the space bar waiting for the other 12 nations to do their "moves". I wish I could just skip by them (like.. really skip, not just speed up) and get an overview of what they were doing instead...

That's weird, MTW had a skip function to skip over all their shit... I think. Anyway, yeah, starting turn-based was weird for me at first, but once you learn how much you can get done in a year, it gets easier.

I would check in the options menu, there will probably be a box like "show computer moves"

Turn that off and you won't have to watch it.

But it will still take a few seconds per faction to "think"

^^He is correct God. You can turn off watching the computer moves completely.

Most of the gripes you have so far are due to you not doing the tutorial or checking the options.

The calvary charges actually have been lessened in this game. Actually, they aren't working properly...most of the time calvary charges and instantly they go to their melee weapons instead of finishing their charge. If you're having trouble against them now, it's only going to get worse with a patch. Use spearmen more and not your swordsmen, etc.

One of the freaking wicked sweet things to me is the fact that while your infantry gain more experienced, and get those rank thingies, THEY GET WICKED COOL FLAGS IN THERE UNITS TO SHOW VISUALLY HOW MUCH MORE BADASS THEY ARE.

So, if you have a calvary unit that has a shit ton of experience, it would be rather impressive to see on the battlemap.
