Arg almost had it.[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 1:57 PM. Reason : .]

just like peoples birthdays are completely different than what years a war took place fromwars dont have birthdays^no you didnt]
8/1/2006 1:57:15 PM
so if a conflict started on dec 31, 2001 and and ended a few hours later on january 1, 2002, you'd say the war lasted for two years?
8/1/2006 1:58:44 PM
8/1/2006 1:59:43 PM
no but why dont you check the months of the Abassid Dynasty instead of doing like all the other simpletons and saying "OMG 1258-759 YOU ARE WRONG OMG LEARN MATH0"funny how i just say "in how many years have you been alive" and half the jackasses stfu]
8/1/2006 2:00:21 PM
there is no way that that period of time could be 500 years long. it could AT MOST be 499.99999 years.
8/1/2006 2:01:33 PM
because that doesnt matter. even if the dynasty began on january 1, 759 it will not have lasted 500 years until january 1, 1259
8/1/2006 2:01:54 PM
^no that would be 501 yearsholy shit you are dumb
8/1/2006 2:03:27 PM
even though there was peace for roughly 500 years, i'll round up to the nearest millenia while im at it!
8/1/2006 2:03:43 PM
^^^that would be 501 yearsholy shit you are dumb
8/1/2006 2:05:07 PM
"LALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALA!!!"
8/1/2006 2:06:37 PM
THE MIDDLE EAST HAS BEEN AT WAR FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS, MINUS SEVERAL CENTURY LONG SPANS OF PEACE
8/1/2006 2:07:13 PM
HEY GUYS THE 90'S WAS 1990 TO 20002000 WASNT PART OF THE NEXT DECADEIM BRAD I CAN ADD REAL GOOD

The Middle East was such a wartorn hellhole in the middle ages.[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 2:11 PM. Reason : .]
8/1/2006 2:09:25 PM
ah the forgotten 'thousands of years long war'where was i in history class that day?
8/1/2006 2:09:52 PM
you cant equivocate wars to birthdaysif a war is going on during both 2001 and 2002...its going on in 2 yearsfurthermore, Jan 1, 759 to Jan 1, 1259 is 501 years exactlyJan 1, 759 - Jan 1, 768 would be 10 years...not 9
8/1/2006 2:10:02 PM
the romans did years like you do, treetwista, so its not unprecedented, its just not how we do things these days, sorry.AND:we didn't say it was "going on" in 499 years, we said it had lasted 499 years[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 2:11 PM. Reason : .]
8/1/2006 2:10:55 PM
its amazing how many of you think 1990-2000 = 10 years just because 2000-1990 = 10its 11 years you idiotsi cant talk politics if you cant even do simple math
8/1/2006 2:10:58 PM
well i guess one thing we can all agree on is that if hezbollah had not kidnapped 2 soldiers, lebanon would be a lot better off, no?
8/1/2006 2:11:34 PM
although 1995 - 1990 = 5 as a math problemthe span of 1990 - 1995 is not 5 years its 61. 19902. 19913. 19924. 19935. 19946. 1995i gotta spoonfeed you guys shit i learned in kindergarten and you expect to know something about politics?]

8/1/2006 2:13:26 PM
with your logic, a five minute war lasts a year.
8/1/2006 2:14:04 PM
with your logic 2 = 3
8/1/2006 2:14:21 PM
August 1, 2006 lasts for 365 days.
8/1/2006 2:15:27 PM
spans of wars are the exact same thing as my birthdaythe middle east never had any violence since the mid 20th century
8/1/2006 2:16:40 PM
They both began and ended on specific days.omg strawman.
8/1/2006 2:18:20 PM
^^^^what are you talking about? i'm not saying how many years something takes place in. i'm using a far more useful number which is the length of a period of time. your measure is pretty useless. for instance if something lasted from january 1, 2001 to march 1, 2002 i would say it lasted one year and two months, also known as fourteen months:1. jan 20012. feb 20013. mar 20014. apr 20015. may 20016. june 20017. july 20018. aug 20019. sep 200110. oct 200111. nov 200112. dec 200113. jan 200114. feb 2001[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 2:19 PM. its funny how nobody has even questioned the validity of the timeline i postedi mean it must be doctored or something
8/1/2006 2:18:54 PM
The Roman and Mongols were invaders, so would that count against the ME? Wasn't really their fault as they were being invaded.
8/1/2006 2:19:07 PM
uh it's still only 5 years you idiotjan 1 1990- jan 1 1991=1jan 1 1991- jan 1 1992=1jan 1 1992- jan 1 1993=1jan 1 1993- jan 1 1994=1jan 1 1994- jan 1 1995=1you count years that way stupid
8/1/2006 2:19:17 PM
i don't think anyone is going to question that the middle east has had conflicts other than those in israel.i mean, iran and iraq fought for a long ass time and that was very recent.
8/1/2006 2:20:06 PM
^no, people ARE questioning thatthey think it was a "pretty nice place" before israel]

8/1/2006 2:25:04 PM
the middle east was certainly more religiously tolerant throughout most of its earlier history than europe was.
8/1/2006 2:26:00 PM
are you seriously trying to say that Europe has been more peaceful than the middle east over the past few centuries?
8/1/2006 2:26:42 PM
no, the past few millenia...though they've both had conflicts, some involving each otherand ahahah i cant wait until you guys' math logic quickly changes when talking about the iraq war...the war started in March 2003...if it ended in April 2007 that would be a 5 year war to you guys, instead of a 4 years 1 month war...because its Bush and he's bad]
8/1/2006 2:28:29 PM
8/1/2006 2:30:03 PM
jesus christ. it would be over 4 years, but not 5 years.
8/1/2006 2:30:09 PM
Would you rather be in Europe or the Middle East during the middle ages? And I'll modify my statement in anticipation of nit-pickiness:Middle East > Europe 8th Century - 17th Century.[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 3:03 PM. Reason : .]

^ I'd rather live in England after the final conquest. As of the 15th century England was becoming a fairly stable place to live. Nevermind the liberty allowed for freemen. (it was among the first nation to abolish serfdom) Hell, even during the anti-Catholic scares there were friggin' Catholics serving in Parliament! Name any other country/place on earth that allowed religious rivals access to the halls of power? Plus, at no point were jews systematically murdered (deported is another matter), something that neither the middle-east nor mainland Europe can claim. [Edited on August 1, 2006 at 4:05 PM. 8/1/2006 4:03:46 PM
Well sure. I'd probably prefer 15th C Florence, too. Or a few other areas.Overall though, the Middle East was a pretty good place to be even as Europe began to emerge as a world power.[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 4:12 PM. Reason : .]

Also, I'd rather live in England too. Even their wars sounded fun. The war of the roses! Watch out for the thorns! Teehee!
