Isn't it a contradiction to say"Who cares about the dead soldiers they signed up" and "I hate Bush for wasting American lives"
7/28/2006 3:58:56 PM
A good way to show respect for the dead is to stop fucking killing people and sending people to be killed.
7/28/2006 3:59:02 PM
^^ please explain why you think that's a contradiction

This just in: it is impossible to think that somebody who signs their live away can't complain about getting killed AND to be saddened by this fact.
7/28/2006 4:10:29 PM
actually it was my post
7/28/2006 4:11:00 PM
If you don't care about soldiers dying because "they signed up for it" then how can you turn around and say you "care about the loss of American lives over there" hence you disgust for Bush and the unjust war.You are using their death to support your argument for a pull out of Iraq while at the same time you are really indifferent about whether they die. You are exploiting the dead to promote your agenda--whatever that maybe.I am saddened at every single death of our soldiers. Even if they did sign up for it they should not have been in Iraq. they signed up to protect our freedoms even if that meant losing their own life. They did not sign up to fight frivolous wars.
7/28/2006 4:23:25 PM

This thread was clearly intended to pit conservatives & liberals against each other in a perpetual pissing match.[/sarcasm]Regardless of how you feel about the war, the motives behind it, and politics in general, you have to be a complete asshole to not recognize the sacrifice people make when they sign up for the millitary. People join for a variety of reasons, but that does not make what they do any less important. There is a good chance this guy spent his 21st birthday deployed, and he did not live to see his 22nd. If you dont think dying in another country, away from your family, and at age 21 is a huge sacrifice to make you don't deserve to enjoy life in America. ]

it is kinda funny the naivete on both sides. the first poster talks about how they fight to give us our opportunity to go to college when the reason the majority of people enlist is b/c they are too poor, stupid or both for college.then on the other side people dont realize that somebody has to be in this war. if enough people werent signing up, there would jsut be a draft and these same people would be forced to fight just so your priviledged ass can sit at home and protest.[Edited on July 28, 2006 at 4:45 PM. Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,Till on the haunting flares we turned our backsAnd towards our distant rest began to trudge.Men marched asleep. Many had lost their bootsBut limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hootsOf disappointed shells that dropped behind.GAS! Gas! Quick, boys!-- An ecstasy of fumbling,Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time; But someone still was yelling out and stumblingAnd floundering like a man in fire or lime.--Dim, through the misty panes and thick green lightAs under a green sea, I saw him drowning. In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning. If in some smothering dreams you too could paceBehind the wagon that we flung him in,And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;If you could hear, at every jolt, the bloodCome gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cudOf vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,--My friend, you would not tell with such high zestTo children ardent for some desperate glory,The old Lie: Dulce et decorum estPro patria mori.- Wilfred Owen

I think the best way to show respect for the departed would not be to post their names on the internet to start debate.I would hate to think that my name could be posted on some college message board somewhere if I were to die in war. It shows disrespect for the family. You don't have ownership over the loss, and ten years from now when conflicts come and go and you forgot you ever wrote anything on the net, there will be a group of people with pictures on their living-room mantle crying for the loss of that one person whose name you don't even recall.[Edited on July 28, 2006 at 6:07 PM. And what of the intelligent and gifted men and women who choose the military for reasons other than economic necessity? Many people already wealthy in society, not to mention Ivy League educated, made the choice to serve the country.Furthermore, others sent their children. Why did John Kerry choose a more dangerous mission to do river patrol? Why did Skull and Bones G. H. W. Bush choose to serve, and in so doing narrowly escape an isolated death after his plane crash, saved only by a submarine picking him up?Why did JFK's older brother die in a bombing raid over London as JFK narrowly escaped his own attack? Why did Teddy Roosevelt's favored son die in war? From an empirical perspective, it is mythology to label the military as a cess-pool of the deprived lower classes. Kings and princes died in battle historically, as real fighters. There is no real tangible evidence that all military might is completely polarized in the hands of only the weak and poor. The middle classes should not flatter themselves that they must be blessed that victimized lower classes do their military bidding.[Edited on July 28, 2006 at 10:41 PM. ^ I am on the same page as you two. I also think it's inappropriate to bereave the departed in an internet forum. It's an impersonal and unfitting medium to attempt to commemorate a life or share sorrow.I hope my name never appears in a forum next to animals crapping indoors as just another topic du jour if I died in war.[Edited on July 29, 2006 at 2:39 AM. Part of the reason that the the American ship of state drifted into Iraq was the left's inability to put together a cognizant argument against Iraq without getting so frothed up that they looked like a Jackass on crack. "I hate Bush / I hate Republicans / I hate [insert noun here]" is not a logical argument. Assuming that the only reason people disagree is stupidity isn't the most sound marketing technique either. Also, I get tired of hearing the argument "oh so-and-so signed up because they were too poor / dumb / etc. to do anything else." The fact of the matter is that they DID have a choice and chose the military over the comfort of their known world. There are plenty of poor / rural / ghetto areas full of people who chose not to serve. I imagine Lisa felt the need to in some way ensure that her cousin's sacrifice would not be completely missed by the outside world, and while posting it on TWW might not have been the best idea, to react so crassly in the same thread (no matter what your political opinion) is truly low-bred.
7/29/2006 3:37:59 AM
If anyone in iraq is reading this, id like to thank the soldiers for killing innocent iraqis so my kids can grow up in a world where american is hated and attacked by terrorists from the middle east.

Wow. I can totally understand people disliking the war, thinking its unjust, and not necessary. I can see almost all criticisms of the war, and at least respect them. But you, Josh#s, are fucking retarded. The isolated incidents where civilians are purposely killed, are tragic indeed, and those soldiers should be tried and punished for their crimes. But to blanket all soldiers that way is absolutely disgusting. And the sad thing is, its soldiers that give you the right to be such an ignorant piece of shit. Don't say "no they don't, all wars have been unjust" because it isn't the wars they've fought that keep you safe, its the wars that never got fought because our military is so strong.I usually don't mean this kind of thing, but I hope you die before you have the chance to procreate and fuck up more human beings.

^^^ and I completely agree, I was simply trying to say that their choice to serve leaves everyone else with the choice to not serve.I could make bitchy remarks to everyone who attempted to bitch at me in this tread... especially people who didn't think that this is a way to memorialize a soldier... but I'm not going to, because obviously that wasn't my intention. I simply wanted to ask those who appreciate what our armed forces do for us every day to thank them and not let them think their service goes unsupported. I never once gave my political views in this thread, nor did I care to hear yours. I never once said Go Bush/Die Bush. I may be republican, I may not be. The point is (like someone mentioned for me) it doesn't take a rewarded event to make someone a hero to me. My cousin was by far a hero simply because he was a soldier. Whether or not he wanted to be at war, he grew up to be a truly admirable man while he was in the military. Whether or not people on here agree with me, I will hug every person that served with him on this tour when they return and thank them.End of story.PS: Thank you to everyone else for your heartfelt condolences in PM's and in this topic.[Edited on July 29, 2006 at 12:28 PM.
