I get the feeling a lot of you think that stem cell research is illegal. That's ok, most of you don't get anything at all.You started this shit off with "stopped those Godless scientists" as if stopping federal funding of something stops it. Stem cell research is already having billions of private dollars poured into it. That's capitalism you god damned communist. Stop trying to fuck with it.

no one thinks it's illegal chiefand here, first search:

I see, 2:1 find it acceptable. And a majority want federal funding...like 51%? Is that overwhelming?

a higher percentage than bush's "public mandate"
7/19/2006 10:38:24 PM
Hey, guess what. You only need that amount to get elected president. But you need higher than that to overturn a veto.Welcome to your country you fucking moron.
7/19/2006 10:39:21 PM
hey, guess whatthe majority of americans support stem cell research and public fundingi was correct, you were not. continue with the personal attacks though

7/19/2006 10:45:17 PM
i heard 75% in one report...but who knows where each of these were taken.Either way, score one for Catholicism and other moral hard-liners. This reminds me of when I heard that this debate was reopened in ireland a few weeks ago after their PM met with Der Pope.[Edited on July 19, 2006 at 10:46 PM. Reason : .]

See, here's what some people are missing. Some people don't oppose fed. funding of stem cell research because they think its wrong. They oppose it because they don't want the government involved in it. People have this sad idea that we can cure almost anything with stem cell research and all we need is some federal cashflow. But this research has already been going on for years. Let the private enterprise take care of this. They do a good job.
7/19/2006 10:48:45 PM
But Waluigi, my poll was kind of old. If you could find a newer one (with a decent set of standards) that says 75%, I'll retract my statement.Although, they still need 66% in each house to agree with it.
7/19/2006 10:49:41 PM
OK, I'm going to bed. I have to work early in the morning and pay taxes so that the money is ready for the veto.I'll try to make time to argue this point in the morning.I'll let Wlfpack4life get in here and argue the moral side. I'll handle the "get the government outta my private enterprise" side tomorrow, which is why I oppose stem cell funding.
7/19/2006 10:51:24 PM
this was according to a doctor interviewed on npr this afternoon...id have to go look at that and see how legitimate the interviewee was.practicality says it should have gone through anyway. on the average, how many frozen embryos even get inserted into a woman's uterus and how many get discarded at some point? anyone have any idea?we all know what the moral implications are here...we dont need to hear them again.[Edited on July 19, 2006 at 10:54 PM. Honestly, I'm asking...Really?I thought fertility treatment was costly to the couple using it. Or so it has been with those I know that used it. What part of it is funded by the federal government.I can concede the point, I just wanted to be sure.

But is money going to that research on Bush's watch. If money went there before, he can't really help that even if he disagrees with it, right? Now, if the money is still going there, then I can see you calling him out on the inconsistent stance.

Wow. You know that is such a coincidence. It was not three days ago that a friend and I were talking about his pet mouse, and I said, "Dude! You know what that mouse needs?" and he said "What?" And I said "A human prostate." He looked at me in awe and said "YES!!! How cool would that be!!"
7/20/2006 1:41:22 PM
you're an idiot. it's the fact that we used a non-specialized stem cell to grow an organ. not what animal it was implanted in.
7/20/2006 1:42:59 PM
But I'm interested in real results that mean something - in terms of curing human diseases. Right now, 72 diseases have been cured using adult stem cell research. 0 diseases have been cured using embryonic stem cell research. The results seem clear to me. And even so, it doesn' tmatter if 1000 diseases are cured if we are using unethical means to obtain those cures. Did you know that Dr. Mengele developed several disease cures from his work at Auschwitz?

Maybe not. You did see the snowflake babies, right? Even so that does not give the government the right to treat them as spare parts.Answer to someone's question: http://www.stemcellresearch.org/facts/treatments.htm (Maybe cures was a bit strong language - advances toward cures would be more reasonable)

That is a legitimate reference. Look at it. You could not possibly have looked at all those references in just that tiny fraction of a time it took you to respond with something silly.

treetwister. go fuck yourself. please dont ruin another perfectly fine thread.getting back to embryonic stem cells. they certainly have more potential than adult stem cells, mostly because of their ability to become any type of human tissue. adult stem cells are already specialized, and their potential to regenerate damaged human tissue is very limited. embryonic stem cells are the only ones that have the potential to repair vital organs
