my parents have a place on a lake in VA. they have a tri-toon boat and while we're out cruising, we wave to everyone(normal thing on boats). Sailboaters don't wave and several flip me the bird like they are higher class then me. bastards. makes me want to go drive laps around their boat while they are waiting on the wind

Usually power boaters on the lakes around here know nothing about the rules of the road and therefore by default act like jackasses and god's gift to horsepower.

^I know the rules. I keep a good distance from any boat and try not to make any wake especially for sailboats or small boats.

I'm just saying that when I wave at you, I don't expect you to act like you're god's gift of the lake. yes sailboats are great looking on the water. I would like to learn how but don't flip me off or not wave when I haven't done anything to you.
