7/12/2006 1:57:06 PM
anybody know where these 200 dollar flights are? and how does priceline work, you bid and give them your credit card but does that mean you automatically get the tickets at your price or what?
7/12/2006 2:27:56 PM
^ what are the dates you're going and coming back?
7/12/2006 2:34:08 PM
morning on 28th and back on the 30th if i fly, otherwise leaving and driving at around 5pm on the 27th and driving through the night
7/12/2006 2:41:27 PM
228/ticket (268 with all the fees) is the cheapest i see after a quick search.
7/12/2006 2:46:45 PM

http://travel.ultimatefares.com/SelQuote.asp?MODE=FINDRESULTS&ID=20753014&SesnID=48314807these actually come out to be about 200/ticket

I like to take 95 to 495 (inner loop) to 270, to 70 W, to 81N to 84 E which will run into the Mass Pike. That will take you into boston. Even though there's a minor detour to the west, traffic seems to flow smoothly along that route and I've made it into Chesnut Hill in about 12-14 hrs from Raleigh.
7/12/2006 5:07:13 PM
^lol that makes no sense. all those detours. if it takes you 12 hours you're doing something very wrong.
7/12/2006 5:14:29 PM
^^Why would you take a detour after driving through DC?I-81 to I-84 makes sense, but only if you miss DC.
7/12/2006 5:26:09 PM
It works because I try to time it so I don't hit DC in rush hour, and it works probably a good 80% of the time. As for the 12 hours, it ends up being about 800 miles one way, and including stops for gas, food, etc means it's damned impossible to average 70 mph the entire time door to door. and THAT'S why it will take 12 hours. I'm not quite sure how this doesn't make sense to you. Averaging 65 mph (12 hours over 800 miles) over the entire trip which includes stop time, traffic, etc isn't bad.
7/12/2006 5:59:55 PM
i just drove from raleigh to nyc a week and a half ago, and i BASICALLY took 95 the whole way, i mean we tookd 295, 395, 495 for small parts, but traffic wasn't really that bad, and I'm pretty sure we left on a sat morning/afternoon. It took us probably about 8.5 hours to drive, boston's probably another 5, someone may have said they time already idkbut yea, just use mapquest, and I don't think 95 traffic will be all that bad, I mean we were stopped a few times briefly, but nothing ridiculous
7/12/2006 9:20:09 PM
if anyone is driving to Boston around the 28th, let me know! thanks
7/13/2006 6:55:17 PM

eh i got them for around 250 each, when gas is 100, hotel room split is like 40, tolls prob 10 each, extra day of food 15, and i get to work thursday +120 i come out a little in the green by flying. not to mention 12+ hours of my time not spent in a car
7/14/2006 11:46:53 AM
i'm up here this week - i wish it was a bit warmer
10/23/2006 9:06:40 PM
My best friend lives in Boston...she uses jet blue to travel mot of the time...apparently they have good prices.Miss you love...
10/23/2006 9:11:05 PM
dont take the tunnel in Baltimore because its like 6 bucks
10/24/2006 8:21:55 AM
i think it took like 10 hours the one time i made the trip there. we left at night. i'm not sure on the 10 hours. i do remember driving through downtown nyc at 6:30am though. maybe someone more familiar with the area can figure out about what time we would have had to leave raleigh to get to nyc at 6:30am, then add on however long it takes to get to nyc to boston.fucking tolls suck. it cost $27 for the entire trip there, driving around a little bit between conn, mass, and ny, and then coming back. there are like three tolls within a mile of each other at the delaware bridge.[Edited on October 24, 2006 at 9:06 AM. I heard JetBlue is going to start offering a Raleigh-Boston direct. Not sure if it will be cheaper than driving...
10/24/2006 9:41:35 AM
i flew american direct - paid $3 to leave the airport - could have been worse
10/24/2006 10:09:32 AM
^^ I'm waiting to find that out too. I heard 07 was the date Jetblue would come to raleigh and start offeering RDU to Boston.I want to go back.....*loves boston*
10/24/2006 12:43:26 PM
i just went round trip on Delta for $187. Driving ----> Total Est. Time: 12 hours, 21 minutes Total Est. Distance: 736.55 milesFlying -----> Security included 4-5 hoursat 30mpg (good luck) it would take 49 gallons of gas alone to make the trip so 100 - 150 in gas, you will have to stop and eat probably then $60 in tolls round trip....fuck that shit, fly....it costs something like $0.60/mile to drive (oil, tires, wear and tear, gas, etc)
10/24/2006 2:42:23 PM
^ i agree except for eating...you eat no matter where you are - typically i'd bet you eat cheaper on the road than you would if visiting a place
10/24/2006 2:51:12 PM
oh yeah, i was meaning adding in the cost of food that you would need to buy on your 12 hour epic voyage
10/24/2006 3:16:02 PM
10/24/2006 3:29:30 PM
ok take off $43...still not worth the hassall of the additional 8 hours of sitting, the hazards of driving or the overall cost permile driven....the state re-emburses at $0.43/mile i think, but that doesn't quite cover it of course...thats $0.43 x 736 miles = $316 minimum cost, not including lost time, food you will get on the drive, or overnight costs if you don't make it in one day, or tolls
