I, too, had good luck with Farm Bureau. Of course, my dad works for them...now I have USAA, and they're awesome for everything.

^ True, but I think you can recoup in court both jumps in your insurance premiums and vehicle damage from the person you loaned your car to. Yes, that means bringing a lawsuit against a friend, but a real friend would have paid it anyway. What I don't know is if you can sue them for the damage to the other driver and then give the award to your insurance company. It doesn't make sense to me that John wrecks Mary's car and Mary's insurance company has to pay. [Edited on September 11, 2007 at 7:31 PM. Reason : .,.]

USAA ftw 73 dollars for full coverage on a newer civic, renters insurance, and watch insurance.
9/11/2007 7:48:19 PM
yeah, full coverage through USAA on my '06 Evo is only a little over $100/month.

Does anybody know how far back USAA looks into your accident history?

While it seems like a lot of people have horror stories with Nationwide, I've been with them for 11 years now (on my parents' policy and then on my own) and they've been great for me. I pay ~60/mo for full coverage on an '03 Mercury Marauder, and that's with 4 points on my license in the last 2 years (2 tickets, reduced to 9 over each time.) I do get a discount b/c I also have my renters' insurance with them, and my rate is probably lower due to my age/experience (I'm 27) but it's still a good deal IMO.Granted, I've not had to deal with getting repairs through them. I have had two cars totaled though (one caught on fire, the other was an accident with no fault assigned), and in both cases, they cut me a check quickly, and in both cases the value was more than fair (I came out about $1000 ahead in each instance). And the rental car allowance they gave me was fine, it would have put me in an Impala (though I opted to spend a few bucks out of pocket and get a Maxima instead...)

I got State Farm too. I pay about $90 a month for my car insurance.
9/12/2007 9:05:11 AM
When everyone says $$ per month, are you writing them a check every month, or is it every 6 months, you're just simplifying for us?
9/12/2007 9:13:02 AM
^Well, as far as what I'm saying, I get them to take it out of my checking account every month, so yeah, pretty much writing a check every month.
9/12/2007 9:18:17 AM
I pay once every 6 months. I think it is about $400 for my 98 Civic.
9/12/2007 9:20:51 AM
I pay mine every 6 months, but I broke it down to what I would pay per month.
9/12/2007 9:26:36 AM
^Yeah, I do what she does pretty much.
9/12/2007 9:37:30 AM
USAA gives you the option to pay each month, half the balance, or the full 6th month balance
9/12/2007 1:49:33 PM
yeah, they bill me in 6 month installments like every other insurance company, but i have them take it out in monthly payments (easy, since i bank with them, too)
9/12/2007 1:53:33 PM
I also pay monthly with Geico.

My husband and I go through State Farm and we pay $130 a month total, which also includes our mortgage disability insurance, and he has tickets. Both of our cars are insured full-coverage.[Edited on September 13, 2007 at 1:49 PM. Reason : more stuff.]
