Were these missiles aimed at Hawaii?http://asia.news.yahoo.com/060707/3/2mty8.htmlIt's bad enough that they're trying out their missile technology, but this raises the stakes. [Edited on July 6, 2006 at 10:33 PM. Reason : ]

^^ Do you just type shit to illicit responses? I guess you forgot about Saddam's army of over 1,000,000 soldiers and his vaunted Republican Guard. Details, details.

maybe i'm a bit dense, but i don't see the strategic advantage north korea has in picking a fight with the US.
7/7/2006 12:02:55 AM
leverage
7/7/2006 12:14:28 AM
trying to shift the attention from Iran to North Korea. NK is just barking.
7/7/2006 2:28:20 AM
i cant wait til the us barks and drops no less than 3 nuclear bombs and no more than 40 on NKi would die happy[Edited on July 7, 2006 at 2:51 AM. Reason : .]

mutually assured destruction.
7/7/2006 9:10:07 AM
We should just make a video with President Bush and other world leaders hysterically laughing at a blown-up picture of Kim.I think it will go over very nicely.
7/7/2006 10:17:54 AM
Except that NK couldn't destroy us.You're assuming somebody else would try and bomb us I hope.
7/7/2006 10:56:23 AM
How hard would it be for NK to load up a nuc on a boat... sail it into sanfransico... and detinate it?... Do they really need a missle?
7/7/2006 2:59:47 PM
that would be pretty hard
7/8/2006 1:17:18 PM
i dont understand why we have all these nukes and dont use them[Edited on July 8, 2006 at 4:59 PM. Reason : .]
7/8/2006 4:53:08 PM
Having a gun (or a nuke) often means not having to use it. We have the luxury in a war to precisely target what we want to hit and avoid hurting civilians. I have a Serbian on my crew... they hated Slobodan Milosovic (sp) Even though NATO bombed the shit out of them, they were scared but felt safe in their houses and wanted nothing to do with any politics... they simply wanted to live a life for lack of better words.
7/11/2006 12:00:42 AM
whats worse? being a tard ^^ or a tool ^ ?
7/11/2006 12:10:21 AM
NK is headed for an assload of pain if they don't realize they need everyone else far more than everyone else needs them....
10/4/2006 10:08:24 AM
You know what'll happen? They'll test their nuke, the global community will condemn it publicly, China will continue to prop up the regime, S. Korea will continue to provide it funds, Japan will continue to build up their military, and the world will go on.As dangerous as a North Korean nuke may be to the Chinese leadership, as long as North Korea doesn't start selling nuclear weapons to Xinjiang seperatists or in any other way completely embarasses or threatens the Chinese regime, they won't really care. They'll probably yank the leash once or twice if it looks like war is eminent, but they'd rather have the disfunctional Kim Jong Il regime there than the anarchy and chaos of a collapsed North Korean state. If anything, it is to their benefit, since the primary people North Korea threatens are their two largest rivals: the United States and Japan.
10/4/2006 11:43:36 AM
Only now we get the privaledge of viewing the verbal war between Abe and North Korea from afar. That man has been the Japanese gov.'s #1 NK haterade drinker, and he shows no signs of letting up now that he's PM.
10/4/2006 11:48:13 AM
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/04/AR2006100400278.htmlWow, Abe is proposing that Japan looks into a possible preemptive stike against NK facilities. Preemptive force is something that just isn't spoken about in post-WWII Japan...
10/4/2006 2:18:16 PM
Oh man this could be potentially awesome.Japan returns to Imperialism aided this time by their ever increasing and advancing robotics industry.Ten years down, Mech Warriors invade NK.Holy shit!
10/4/2006 2:36:11 PM
Mech warriors? They'll use tachikomas.
10/4/2006 2:38:51 PM
Whatever dudeBring on the giant robots with lasers!
10/4/2006 2:39:34 PM
we could so easily fuck up north korea it aint even funny

Well, analysts had predicted that an arms race was bound to start sooner or later in Eastern Asia. Looks like it's going to be sooner.Kinda scary when you think of it: these aren't some po-dunk, 3rd world countries buying Vietnam-era leftovers from the Russians. These are nations with massive technological and industrial bases that have the potential to churn out some really heavy firepower. They also have a thousand years worth of unresolved grudges to slag each other.Think about it, you've got the 2nd, 3rd, and 7th largest economies, at least five of the top ten militaries, and about a fifth of the globe's population all sitting on a giant powder keg. Throw in some of the world's largest arsenals of chemical and biological weapons, let alone the nukes.Though I imagine from an engineering perspective, it would be interesting to see just how effective AEGIS cruisers are against F-15K's. Or the new PAC-3s against modified SCUD missiles.

they have the know-how to handle it on their own, i'd think. why use force there when there's already a competent nation handling the problem?

I could contribute about an entire page to this threadbut im choosing to abstain

yeah, i mean, i spend a good chunk of my academic work studying goddam asian history/international relations. plain and simple: abe might be nuts, but not as nuts as kim jong ill. i expect a japanese strike if the test goes off.

10/7/2006 1:55:54 PM
^^believe me we won't do anything. Since there are more level headed regimes in that area we will put the responsibility on china, japan, s. korea, and russia to take care of this problem. So where are they testing this weapon. All i've heard about it is that it will be done underground.
