while street hockey might not be as "old skool" or "l33t", it beats the fuck out of getting up at 4am and paying 10 bucks
6/18/2006 1:18:45 AM
no way man....the feeling you get on ice and the things you can do, its no comparison
6/18/2006 1:21:18 AM
I've played in both ice hockey leagues, and pick up street games there is a comparison. especially when one isn't forced to compare them at 4am. Or pay to play every single game.]

Im down, I have no skates (roller or ice), and no pads, I do have a stick though, so yea put my name on the list and lets finalize this shit.If we cant get a real hockey place, then we can just set up some goals at the top of the dan allen deck one night. so have i. i am a purist, you need ice. with rollers, your movement and speed is restricted. no stopping, no (very) sharp turns, thats not hockey.not to mention being able to roof a puck takes about 10x more skill then to do so with a roller puck or ball.[Edited on June 18, 2006 at 1:36 AM. I hate the Iceplex. The ice is stupid Olympic size, the locker rooms were built for figure skaters (hence the weird turns in the walls and the narrowness), and their pickups are scheduled at stupid times and cost too much.Reczone has pickup on Thursdays and Fridays at noon, and Monday/Tuesday/most Fridays/Saturdays at 9:00 PM. All the sessions are $8 for at least 90 minutes.Schedule: http://www.reczone.net/servlets/lcalendar?League=RecZone&DisplayList=24They have Friday lunch pickup at Cary, too, and Friday/Saturday nights (different some weeks) at Cary and Garner, though no Saturdays at Cary for a while because the adult league games that were cancelled due to Canes games are being rescheduled for those Saturday slots. My point is just that 4:30 AM at the Iceplex is retarded.
6/18/2006 1:38:29 AM
it seems like if we don't agree on ice or street it's never going to happen and even if we do agree, we'll see
6/18/2006 1:43:38 AM
just play football insteadits free, its right on campus, and u dont need all that special shit
6/18/2006 2:06:37 AM
I'm down for some ice hockey. Just a handful of games left in my rec league so I could use the extra skating.
6/18/2006 2:13:27 AM
There isn't much reason why we can't do both at some point. For ice it seems like just crashing a pick-up session at one of the local rinks is the best (and cheapest route) and we will likely have others there playing to beef up the numbers. The rollar thing would seem a lot more casual and can be done almost anywhere. Maybe we can get BigHitTrollboy to come and cheerlead for us.

Where is the best place to find roller hockey gear? I'm really just trying to find a place where I can try on equipment and find my size so I can find stuff on the Internet (I seriously doubt a store has really good deals, but if you know of one, lemme know).
6/18/2006 5:26:03 PM

does anyone know if there are protective gear requirements at carolina sportsplex for pickup roller hockey?I have the stuff but I prefer to play without.
6/19/2006 10:49:39 AM
I can't imagine it'd be anything more than gloves and a helmet. They don't require more than that at the ice rinks around here (though you'd be crazy to play without shin guards).
6/19/2006 12:11:42 PM
fuck street hockeyice hockey is where it's at
6/19/2006 12:17:09 PM

Some guys I know are pulling together a scrimmage for this Wed. night for Roller hockey. Cost is usually about $5/person, and it should be after 7pm (usually 9pm) when it starts. Shoot me a PM if you have any interest in coming out.
6/19/2006 2:34:44 PM
one of the benefits of street hockey was that we could crash a tennis court or parking deck and not have to paywe have what, 3 or 4 people that are up for street hockey? that's enough for one side of a shootout if one is a goalie

dick's sporting goods will probably have one of the best selections around. find something you want to buy online and then go and see if they have it in store to figure out what size you need

7/1/2006 2:30:19 AM

7/1/2006 2:42:57 AM
I play everywhere for free because I wear the stupid gloves.
7/1/2006 2:52:30 AM
so does anyone ever actually get any games together?
7/10/2006 2:03:16 PM
Marsh Creek Park on New Hope Road (3016 st number) has a decent outdoor rink that I will be at today to mess around. Dont know a specific time, I need to go to either dicks or walmart to get some cones (for drills and shit) and balls/pucks. But it has 2 goals, fully marked rink, enclosed by fencing all the way around (the fence could be higher at the ends, but I figure whoever hits it out chases). I was thinking prolly 2pm or around that time, if theres no one else out there. I will be going out there regularly from now on since its a 5 minute drive from my house. If anyone is interested let me know or just show up.
9/3/2006 7:51:44 AM
whatever happened to this?i'm still down with playing some hockey, street or ice.
