why the hell do they not update the financial aid inquiry?

Short answer: They're slack as hell over there. They're overpaid, and do it on their own accord. Also, the system is rarely updated. It's only updated when the required dates come around.

I have not.

SUMII aid hasn't even been disbursed to the Cashier's Office.

Yeah, it has. It was disbursed on Thursday, and processed over the weekend. The money has been sent to the banks of SOME of the people with DD. So if you haven't gotten yours, it's either on hold at the bank and will be given tomorrow to your bank. This is what the Cashier's Office lady told me just yesterday, and after I got off the phone with her, a couple hours later, my money was in my account. If you haven'y gotten it by tomorrow, you may wanna call and make sure you're not on hold or something like that.

Honey, I know what the hell I'm talking about, ok? I know you think you do, and sometimes you might, but when you try to talk about my financial aid, you don't have the slightest clue.

Award Information (2005 - 2006)
SUM2 *Summer Stafford Loan 03-17-06 Accepted
SUM2 *Summer Unsubsidized Stafford Loan 04-13-06 Accepted
SUM2 H.S. Battie Student Loan 03-17-06 Accepted

Disbursed Awards (2005 - 2006)
SUM1 *Summer Stafford Loan 05-17-06
SUM1 *Summer Unsubsidized Stafford Loan 05-17-06
SUM1 *NCSU Tuition Assistance Grant 05-17-06
SUM1 H.S. Battie Student Loan 05-17-06

And...nothing for SSII. Whaddya know.

On hold...I appreciate the suggestion, but these are the sorts of things I already do. I answered questions posted...I'm not bitching or soliciting advice. I'm not getting what I need/want for aid by not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

ambrosia1231 != financial aid n00b, to put it in CC terms.

lol what a bitch.

Mine was in my account Tuesday morning and my disbursed awards list still only has summer I also. You could try clicking on Cashier's Office Student Account Inquiry to see your account summary for much more accurate info... but then you wouldn't have anything to whine about.

You really are a fucking bitch, I was just suggesting some things that were given to be by the CO. I wasn't talking about "your financial aid" seeming how you have yours soo differently from everyone elses. I was saying what the lady at the Cashier's Office said about EVERYONE'S AID. She said "EVERYONE'S FIN. AID HAD BEEN DISTRIBUTED TO THE CASHIERS OFFICE UNLESS THEY WERE ON HOLD FOR DELINQUENT ACCOUNTS OR UNDER REVIEW". She also told me that if my money wasn't there then I needed to call. I certainly am not a Financial Aid noob, but I know what the fuck I'm talking about-especially when I get it straight from the horses mouth.

^And that would be a shame, ambrosia wouldn't have something to whine about! Imagine that! And, trust me, I'm POSITIVE she knows the most accurate information possible since she's the self proclaimed "queen of bitching until she gets what she wants"

Call your financial aid adviser immediately, especially if your FAFSA was done on time. Sometimes, they tend to make mistakes, or your lender can make a mistake. Either way, make sure your package says "off campus", that was an issue once for a friend of mine. But call someone right away. Hope you get that worked out.

i know this is a long shot question, but if the fam just got FAFSA done and turned in like end of june (i'm thinkin it was around June 25th when they got sent in), how long does it take for it to get processed and get to NCSU, etc etc?

Simplified, how long does the process of turning in a FAFSA form to getting your Fin Aid amounts (for the fall) from NCSU?

i'm so damn anxious, and i've never had my stuff turned in so late. i just want to know how much we're gonna have to cough up.

They don't pull FAFSA's everyday from the system, and after the deadline for early consideration they pull them less frequently. So, without talking to your adviser about it, it is a long shot question. Maybe someone on here that has done it before would know, but from what I understood, it really varies.

You mean the acount that looked inaccurate, at best, and some horrible mistake at worst? I did. I finally got an answer. Everything's kosher, but the notations ("tuition adjustment" covers a LOT of things) were utterly unhelpful. To me, $214 != 3*(108 + 12), but hey, I might should try and find a job at Enron.

"You really are a fucking bitch,"

Get over it/not my problem/You don't have any room to talk - take your pick.
You were talking about my aid - I didn't ask for ay advice, knew what I was doing, and you still gave your two cents. Thanks, but I'm on top of this. I already knew that if I'd called on Friday, I'd have gotten the "give it x number of business days". Being on vacation isn't conducive to calling during business ours, and then you've got that pesky holiday, and I refuse to harass them if I've been unable to check on things for a while before calling. As far as my fin aid being so different - we can leave it at "it's certainly not typical, and it sems if there's an intricacy possible to deal with, I have".

Quote :
"She also told me that if my money wasn't there then I needed to call."

Done, done, done. Always the first thing . Part of the problem is that there has been a snafu - things aren't updating properly, and staff in OSFA doesn't even have access to the amount of detail about aid packages that we do...never mind that right now, we have access to old info. They don't even see that.
Quote :
"She said "EVERYONE'S FIN. AID HAD BEEN DISTRIBUTED TO THE CASHIERS OFFICE UNLESS THEY WERE ON HOLD FOR DELINQUENT ACCOUNTS OR UNDER REVIEW""

If you want a cookie, it's here. Mine wasn't disbursed because I was only taking 3hrs instead of 6 in SSII, and so because of that change, mine went into the "are they still qualified?" (in case you need this spelled out, that's the "UNDER REVIEW" category) inapproriately. I guess I should have known somehow that dropping my SSII course would result in a hold-up

I don't have explain any of this, but it seems you need it. You keep forgetting that I never asked for your input - I answered someone's question. Feel free to harangue me for this post, too.

It's worth finding out what criteria they used to determine your EFC. If it's something like a sibling graduating, you're up the creek. If it was a mistake, merely having them have review your FAFSA might end up with them catching something, and the mistake fixed.
If one of your parents is turned down for a PLUS, you have access to the same amount of loan funds that independent students have, which is roughly double to the amount of loans dependent students have.

Quote :

I always got mine in early, so was basically given the "wait until june" spiel. Now that spring grades are already in, once you alert your fin aid counselor that there's something there to deal with, it shouldn't take too long.
This year, my FAFSA got in on 5-09, and all my verification stuff in on 5-30, which is dreadfully late , and everything's already been taken care of (which I only found out today - see above about website issues). Less than a month isn't impressive, but it's not all that terrible. They'll keep in mind that tuition is due relatively early, and going to the office in person one time got me the info I was looking for, and then some, right away. It was pleasing.

Most of the held up SSII aid was disbursed this morning, even though the fin aid page doesn't reflect this. The lady at the cashier's office told me it would definitely be in my account tomorrow (7/7...though it's already "tomorrow" now), if it wasn't today. So now, NCSU is done holding it up, and I'm just waiting on SECU. I don't think there are many more folks who haven't received their aid yet, but if you haven't, you're all clear to rightfully be irritated that you haven't

I didn't get my forms in until the end of June because my mother was a flake about getting me her tax info. I shot my advisor an email to let them know that my stuff has been sent in since my fin aid inquiry info didn't mention that it had been received. Hopefully that will get the ball rolling and I have some chance of getting a bit of money. On top of being late, this is the first year that my EFC has been anything other than 0.

Yeah. Mine was Diane Sims. Our last names are near each other in the alphabet so she might be yours too. Their names and emails are listed under the staff page on the website.

Turns out that I was selected for "random" verification again this year. It's so random that I've had to do it every year!

It seems fair to verify information for any student who has an extremely low (or zero!) EFC.

Heck, I'm quitting my job next month and I will be a full-time student, yet my expected contribution for Fall06/Spring07 is more than $15k.

^circumstances like that are what your aid counselor are for. I agree that you shouldn't be penalized for leaving work to go to school, and they feel similarly. There's only so much they can do, but they will do all they can to help you afford school. Go talk to her/him.

Because of fartsquid and some others, i'm fairly certain there's a certain aid amount at which they automatically put you through verification. I'm not nosy enough about other people's aid packages to try and figure out what it is, though. It makes perfect sense, but there's no point in trying to assert that it's random. Meeting your quota and verifying costly aid packages at the same time isn't necessarily a bad thing...I just wish they could be more up front about it.

I finally got my award letter in the mail, and of course, the webpage still isn't updated

I was wondering about this too, so I contacted my FinAid advisor. She said the cashier's office applies the expected aid (including loans) toward tuition, etc. If you pony up the "Pay This Amount" balance before the deadline, your class schedule should be safe. For the fall semester, the office awarded me money, but I havent' gotten my award letter yet. Also, the "pay this amount" on Pack Tracks is still the full balance of the tuition. Do i have to send something back with my award letter before the money will go over?

go here: http://www7.acs.ncsu.edu/financial_aid/
click on Financial Aid Inquiry and log in; mine just got updated and i am assuming they updated everyones the same time they mailed out the letters. If your information is up to date, look for "Processing Status: Awards ready to be disbursed to the cashier's office." So even if though packtracks says pay this full amount dont worry about it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong....

After not hearing anything from the office for over a month concerning my aid for next year (private lender, Sallie Mae) I finally got someone on the phone yesterday afternoon who could help me out. Turns out that b/c I had a VERY bad fall semester, I didn't make the required 24 credits for the year. I was supposed to receive a letter back in May telling me this, so that I could enroll in Summer classes to make up those credits and receive the aid. Well, that letter never got sent to me.

So here I am at the end of July, just signed a one year lease for a townhouse and I'm ready to go back to school in a few weeks. I was told that my only option was to send an appeal letter to the director explaining my situation. I sent that out today, certified mail. I've appealed on the basis that I wasn't properly informed of the situation, and that if I had been I would have (obviously) enrolled in summer classes. I also stated that I have no problem working on a conditional basis; if I haven't passed all my classes and raised my GPA by the end of the Fall semester then they can cut me off no questions asked.

Does anyone have any advice on what else I can do to make sure I get my aid? There's no possible way I could pay tuition/books/rent/utilities/other bills while going to school full time, and I don't get any assistance from my parents. Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

that sucks about your letter...i got mine and my roomate got his

honestly i'd put this at about a 5 out of 10 on the worry scale...only cause its this late

just email rance jackson(look email in the directory...i think its rance_jackson@ncsu.edu)

tell him why you didnt complete the required amount of hours...be honest

he sent me an email like the next day with an attachment that said "approved"

also...not to sound mean but didnt you kind realize you had this coming?...its your obligation as a student to know that you have to complete 24 hours a semester...if you failed a class in the fall, you most definitely should have realized spring semester you had to get 15 hours...or if you are like me, get 12 hours in the spring, and be prepared to take summer classes...that kind of helped my case for appeals too, i told him my grades for the spring(once again...as a student, you should realize that fucking up in the fall meant you should do good in the spring) were strong, and was taking summer classes to catch up. the only thing i didnt count on was that i'd have to appeal twice, once for summer, and then for fall

i also did pretty good this summer session one so like spring plus summer 1 being good helps

here is step by step what you need to do

-email rance jackson and tell him why you did bad in the fall
-wait for his response
-hope hes having a good day

thanks for the help. i sent the letter out, i guess i'll just copy and paste it into an e-mail and send it again to be doubly sure. although there were a bunch of reasons for not having the 24 hours for the year completed, in the end i guess i should have known the policy. well i guess i'm just gonna keep my fingers crossed now. thanks again for the advice.
