even without the Virtual PC VM additions, the eye candy is fucking sweetAnyone know how to take screenshots of the VPC?
6/9/2006 4:00:36 PM
same as anything else, printscreen button + paste into paint
6/9/2006 4:21:58 PM
doesn't work
6/9/2006 4:25:18 PM
processor usage is consistently at 100%wtfeven the taskmanager is taking up like 40% processing power
6/9/2006 4:29:20 PM
IE crashed
6/9/2006 4:40:34 PM
I guess you forgot what "Beta" meant.
6/9/2006 4:42:57 PM
I think the 8MB dumb S3 card is responsible for the slowness
6/9/2006 4:43:50 PM
told you running it through VM was a bad idea dude.
6/9/2006 5:10:11 PM
well, I figure if I turn off all the animations, it would run smoothly...I am loving the interface.
6/9/2006 5:13:35 PM
What's amazing is that Virtual PC recognizes Vista as "Windows Codename Longhorn" and the VPC extensions work on it
6/9/2006 5:16:43 PM
probably because MS makes VPC
6/9/2006 5:34:21 PM
yeah but the VPC 2004 came out in 2004. It's amazing longhorn has been in works for so long...I know it's not news, but still a 4 year product development cycle!
6/9/2006 6:40:45 PM
It's also the latest version. Not to mention they came out with SP1 at the end of the year. It's really only a couple of years old. And longhorn has changed a TON since then.
6/9/2006 7:32:31 PM
OH WOW, VISTA 2, YOU'RE SO GOD DAMN AWESOME...... except that barely any fucking program runs with it. Good luck trying to run a single non mic app, annnndddd wait for the special hit, it eats up more ram than a dumped prom date on a icecream binge.
6/10/2006 1:50:28 AM
when did they release Vista 2?
6/10/2006 1:54:05 AM
6/10/2006 1:54:24 AM
I gave up on Linux in 2003and that's the year Heaven migrated their servers to IIS.
6/10/2006 1:58:37 AM
so obviosly vpc 2004's display emulation sucksis vmware any betterI wanna run vista on my laptop without repartitioning the hdd
6/10/2006 7:06:00 AM
can u boot from a dvd? I want to boot the dvd and start from scratch.
6/10/2006 2:23:09 PM
you mean in Virtual PC?yes, I used daemon tools.Standalone, the DVD is bootable...I am pretty sure it doesn't have an upgrade option...maybe I am wrong
6/10/2006 2:24:25 PM
thanks for the quick response
6/10/2006 2:30:13 PM
Finally got it downloaded and installed.Seems to run fine.had to grab audigy and ati drivers but they installed ok.I tried to play wow, and while it runs, i cant change refresh rate and its missing a few resolution options. Ie7 sucks as much as it does in winxp. wtb ie6 pls.My hdd is spinning like crazy even while im just sitting here doing nothing. I imagine that might be superfetch doing its thing.I haven't had any stability issues. Seems to run great.
6/10/2006 2:49:50 PM
^ That's the search thing indexing
6/10/2006 3:03:32 PM
Anybody using grub have any issue adding it to the mbr?
6/10/2006 4:57:59 PM
I'd say installing the Windows boot loader ahead of GRUB is a better idea as with any other MS OS
6/10/2006 4:59:22 PM
6/10/2006 5:57:26 PM
Download finished. I'm going to have to get to work on this triple boot now.
6/10/2006 11:56:39 PM
so... i still can't load drivers during setup off of a usb thumb drive. or by hot swapping the setup disc with another. gg microsoft.
6/11/2006 12:37:36 AM
6/11/2006 3:27:11 AM
SUCCESS! Triple boot with XP+Linux+Vista works! Only problem is that if I put Vista in sleep mode and try to reboot into XP, it wont let me and wakes up Vista.
6/11/2006 6:42:30 PM
I can't get it to connect to the internet
6/12/2006 7:57:53 AM
Got my Vista DVD in the mail on Friday last week, just got around to installing it last night. Some impressions:1) Didn't recognize my sound card off the bat. Annoying, but easily solved.2) My mouse kept fucking up and jumping all over the screen. Downloaded drivers from logitech and fixed that.3) Installation took way way way too long. Of course I'm sure that alot of the components are still running in debug mode and taking longer than they should to run.4) Eye candy is sweet. Although I still haven't figured out how to "tilt" my windows in 3d fashion.5) IE7 runs a shitload faster in vista than in XP6) Speech recognition is fucking sweet.
6/26/2006 7:36:59 AM
the "tilt" is just the new alt-tab
6/26/2006 9:13:10 AM
6/26/2006 12:25:31 PM
I liked Windows Vista more when it looked better and was called Mac OS X.
6/26/2006 2:51:35 PM
What's the deal with XP 64? I haven't kept up with things. I have a Athlon 64 and will be looking to move into a dual core when they slash prices next month. I'm also looking for a boost from either XP 64 or Vista but I am a bit out of the loop with 64 and what its all about. I'll google, but maybe someone can boil it down quickly?
6/26/2006 2:58:37 PM
boiled down version: get the 64bit of vista, or just wait for the retail release next year. XP64 isnt worth messing with, neither is the 64bit of vista unless you just want to have all kinds of incompatibility issues
6/26/2006 3:25:18 PM
got 352 mb of ram, 1.25 ghz amd and its running pretty good on mine
6/26/2006 3:57:52 PM
noen, my shit don't tilt when I go through the Alt-Tab menu.
6/26/2006 4:29:44 PM
do you guys just install XP drivers for your devices that work strangely?
6/26/2006 6:35:50 PM
how is going from xp to vista?my laptop is P4 2.66 ghz, 512mb ram, 30gig hddwill it format or just upgrade? programs intact or smarter to do it fresh?
6/26/2006 6:41:08 PM
tilt = windows + tab, not alt-tab
6/26/2006 6:47:11 PM
w00t thats fucking cool.anybody try games on it yet? So far all my devices' XP drivers have worked.About to find out how Bf2 runs on it.DONT TRY TO DO CUSTOM INSTALL IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR XP RUNNING, IT FUCKS IT UP.[Edited on June 26, 2006 at 8:38 PM. Reason : .]
6/26/2006 8:37:59 PM
tad, tyler either if you have any spare socket i865g mobo lying around?I think I fried this one the other day - I cant even get it to post.
6/26/2006 9:20:37 PM
no but I've got a spare Socket A kt333 mobo sitting here collecting dust.If you can get it to work its yours, but I'm keeping the ram (if its good)BF2 runs well, just need to download the catalyst drivers for vista and turn on some AA because I'm running into towers like crazy. Also the in-game browser fucks up too. I turned of DWM and it worked better but its still fucked.[Edited on June 26, 2006 at 10:25 PM. Reason : .]

I honestly don't understand what the big deal is. I tested Beta 1, and it blew. It was kind of snappy but when I opened up more than about 3 windows, it slowed down tremndously. Didn't allow me on the internet at all (I installed the drivers for my Sis integrated network adapter, and it still wouldn't let me online). My system isn't top of the line by any stretch of the imagination (AMD 2800+ mobile, 1 Gig RAM, 256 MB 6600GT), but Ubuntu flies on it. I don't understand what the big deal is about an OS that will eat up all your resources just to run. fuck that. I'm going to upgrade my PC one more time, buy an Xbox 360 (and eventually a PS3). The only PC game I really play is Eve and I can get that to run through Wine. To hell with Vista and all that bloated shit.
6/27/2006 8:58:49 AM
I've been running it for the past week or so, no issues, interface looks nice and I can still play games without any hitches.
6/27/2006 11:35:02 AM
after doing some testing of my software I've learned 2 things. vista's registry is virtually the same, and virtual pc sucks balls. get vmware
6/27/2006 11:43:36 AM
How large of a partition to I need to install this?
6/27/2006 5:10:54 PM
My install is 4.22 GB, but I put it on a 100 or so gig partition simply because XP maps that partition as a separate drive just fine. Also, you might not have to reinstall all of your old programs. I've had no trouble running my old XP apps through the "Program Files" directory on the XP partition. Games such as Oblivion and Battlefield 2 I have not tried yet.[Edited on June 27, 2006 at 6:39 PM. Reason : .]
