I saw a new black Jetta TDI with tan interior parked next to me at the mexican restaurant today. It looked damn good and I really wish I could get one. I'd like to get one bad, but my wife thinks its her turn to get a car even though she ain't working now.
5/31/2006 3:16:20 PM
I love how solid the new jettas feel and the new interiors are DOPEI just can't get used to the sound of diesel engines
5/31/2006 4:26:54 PM
i love the sound of a diesel... of course being in construction my whole life as helped. when AVON and i we little my dad would put us in our then LN9000 dump truck to put us asleep even today with my new truck the gentle vibration of a Cat at idle will relax the hell out of me at idle

^Where do you see that? It says apolinaria, United States.Seems shady as fuck to me. Who would sell that car for 5k unless they owed like a gambling debt or some shit?? The e-mail is 06TDI4Sale@hotmail.com or something and when the screen loads up at first, it shows another seller ID and item #. Then it changes as its loading. WTF scam busters need to pwnt that shit.
5/31/2006 8:22:22 PM

5/31/2006 8:32:15 PM

6/1/2006 5:16:19 PM
if you're going with diesel, germany cars are the best at it especially vw. so get it.
6/1/2006 5:42:02 PM
6/1/2006 5:57:39 PM
german cars?

Los VW Jettas son de Mexico...
6/3/2006 11:41:38 AM
Got it...Love it....44 miles to the gallon on my trip home
6/5/2006 9:40:16 AM
you should be getting better than that on the highway. either you were driving hard, or some maintenance is due.
6/5/2006 10:24:31 AM
Or you had a backseat full of lead ingots
6/5/2006 10:27:51 AM
I was driving through a lot of mountains and didn't use cruise control too much since I was trying to be careful in a new car.....I thought 44 was pretty damn goodIts brand new so I'm doubtful it needs work...
6/5/2006 11:18:08 AM
ah, if it's new then that explains it. You should see a bump in fuel economy after you break the engine in.
6/5/2006 12:25:42 PM
gotta post pics man'grats!btw, what price did ya pay, and what were options? just curious[Edited on June 5, 2006 at 1:18 PM. Reason : .]

According to car&driver, diesels are on the way out(even in europe) due to ever-tightening emission regulations. The new hotness is supposedly VW's new 1.4liter gas engine, turbocharged AND supercharged. Believe it or not, it's actually cheaper to manufacture than a TDI engine, and still puts out a respectable 170hp.
6/5/2006 2:37:03 PM
I doubt Diesels are on the outs...as fuel efficiant as they are and as many people drive them in Europe, I would be shocked to see them phased out. Not to mention Car and Driver just wrote a top notch article on Jetta TDI's and didn't mention a thing about it...
6/5/2006 2:44:12 PM
where'd you get your facts buddy???http://www.caranddriver.com/dailyautoinsider/11009/world-demand-for-diesel-powered-cars-seen-doubling.html
6/5/2006 2:47:19 PM
^^ Darn good price, what was MSRP sticker on it?
6/5/2006 2:51:43 PM
package 1 MSRP is almost exactly $24000pack 1 is $1600, so base should be around $22400[Edited on June 5, 2006 at 3:00 PM. Reason : 2]
6/5/2006 3:00:13 PM
MSRP on my car was $22,900
6/5/2006 3:01:44 PM
6/5/2006 3:02:34 PM
isn't the invoice 21,123 for the base model - your brother that's a dealer couldn't give you below invoice? not to mention travel expensesheh and if you bought it from bachman - i went to HS with the owner's son - you got had [Edited on June 5, 2006 at 3:12 PM. Reason : .]
6/5/2006 3:07:09 PM
Yes thats the base model INVOICE price, however, due to the high demand of TDI's right now, there isn't a dealer in town who will sell you a TDI below sticker. Thats the first thing the salesman at Southern States said to us....that what we see is what we pay. Hence why going to my brother and getting invoice was a good deal. Why don't you read the thread before replying next time and save me some typing time.
6/6/2006 7:53:12 AM
you can still get below invoice, i know for a fact.
6/6/2006 10:51:48 AM
everyone understands that to the general public a car salesman would never go lower than he had to - when you have family in the business there are exceptions - or you would hope they paid less than invoice for the car - thus since you have a family member that works there - so should youhow much did you end up saving after travel expenses?
6/6/2006 10:57:27 AM
He doesn't own the dealership...as a sales rep he still has to get permission to get me a deal. I still saved $1530 after my one way ticket...I'd say thats worth it
6/6/2006 12:07:33 PM
after carsdirect.com takes their cut - you only saved $1000 from them - before any expenses whatsoever - i'm estimating $40 in gas - depending on how you typically eat probably $10-20 more in food costs - plane ticket could be anywhere from $60-200 depending on budget or regular airline - so maybe $750 saved off of carsdirect.com price - but only you have the exact #shttp://www.carsdirect.com/build/options?zipcode=27606&acode=USB60VWC033C0&restore=falsei'm not disputing that you got a better deal at bachman than you were able to get locally - evidentily that is true - i'm just saying that the great deal you think you got is not all that uncommon - and possibly not worth extra ~500 miles/time/gas/food you can't put a cost on spending time with the family though [Edited on June 6, 2006 at 12:15 PM. Reason : . ]
6/6/2006 12:14:23 PM
You get a full tank of gas from the dealer in which I got home on one tank. If you want to argue filling up when I get home...fine, $40 for gasI ate a Mcdonalds happy meal which cost me $4My one way ticket was $170 bucks after taxesWho is Bachman? i'm guessing thats the dealer in Louisville...I actually got it outside of Louisville in Elizabethtown
6/6/2006 12:20:49 PM
ah ok - so a little under $800 saved from carsdirect.com price - assuming you couldn't haggle below their target price - which is impossible b/c they are getting paid a commission yeah bachman is the main vw dealership in louisville - elizabethtown is 45miles away so i didn't guess you meant there instead of louisville - my badi was mainly wondering how much thought you put into all of the outside factors that make the deal not as great as it would appear at first glancecongrats on the new car
6/6/2006 12:28:08 PM
Also, do not EVER take your car to southern states. They fucking blow.Leith VW is far better, although further away.
6/6/2006 12:53:05 PM
I've driven 2100 miles in the last 11 days and most of the stations I drove past had diesel fuel for 15-20 cents less than regular 87.
