yeah, I really doubt I'll be going to many of these. maybe one or two, but it's just not the sameRIP alive after five
5/10/2006 1:44:22 PM
indeed.
5/10/2006 1:45:43 PM
5/10/2006 2:02:19 PM
yeah...looks like the last of the BYOB events has gone the way of lawn party, brent road, Luna's pizza, etc. Is there any place left to get a really cheap buzz?maybe I'll go try to console myself in the Old School boards...
5/10/2006 2:12:21 PM
They used to have a durham alive after five as well. Maybe that one will remain unchanged...
5/10/2006 2:22:08 PM
sounds like that'll be more of a "live fire exercise" than apple chill.
5/10/2006 2:39:43 PM
I'm not driving to durham just so I can drink free beer, that's for fucking sure

Jacob, We received your comments via MIXonline. The "no coolers" policy was adifficult decision for many reasons. Since the convention centerconstruction necessitated our move to a new location, we had to make anumber of adjustments and overall changes based on the new venue. ALIVEAFTER FIVE is now located on a city street (instead of the Civic CenterPlaza) and the logistics and new liability issues are on a much largerscale. Because of the changes, we are working with our AAF partners toinsure that beverages are available at several locations, at areasonable price, and that concert goers will have the opportunity formulti-purchase (ie. buckets). The adjacent restaurants will also havefull food and beverage menus available. These modifications arenecessary in order to continue with the concert series. We appreciateyour taking time to share your concerns. We hope we have fullyresponded to those issues, and that you enjoy your experience at ALIVEAFTER FIVE. ^ its not free beer you bought it, or your friend bought it
5/10/2006 3:57:59 PM
exactly they dont care and thats why plenty of people will be pissed off.. pretty simple logic here
5/10/2006 4:04:25 PM
^^why are you defending this shit? you work for them or something? they've taken away the best part of alive after five. period. take your lame justifications elsewhere
5/10/2006 4:06:58 PM
I WORK FOR THEM AND I WILL BE THE FIRST TO TELL YOU THAT THEY HAVEN'T DONE WELL WITH THESE BLOCK PARTIES IN THE PAST AND I DON'T FORSEE THEM DOING WELL THIS YEAR CALLING THESE THE OFFICIAL LIVE AFTER FIVE PARTIES.....ITS REALLY NOT AA5......IT SUCKS....
5/10/2006 4:16:44 PM
thats cause no one is going to show up nowwho ever runs the joint is a complete fucking moron when it comes to business, i must sayno wonder why they have never done welli hope it takes for them and they lose an ass load of moneythen they can put it somewhere where we can bring our own beer and it will be cool again
5/10/2006 4:27:57 PM
there is no way that the better than ezra concert last weekend didn't make a shitload of money

take your logical thinking elsewhere. we're here to bitch
WE ARE USUALLY WAY OVER CAPACITY EVERY WEEKEND...I WAS THERE ALL NIGHT....THE BAR SEEMED VERY EMPTY....I ALSO SAW THE NUMBERS....THEY DIDN'T DO NEARLY AS MUCH AS THEY ANTICIPATED...PEOPLE AREN'T BUYING DRINKS WHEN THEY ARE SITTING IN LINE FOR 30 MINUTES
5/10/2006 4:47:10 PM
Were the previous AA5's profitable? If so, where did most of the money come from (sponsors I'm guessing?)
5/10/2006 5:11:04 PM
if you dont like it stay at home go somewhere better
5/10/2006 5:24:00 PM
it's ruined...another fun event dashed by capitalism
5/11/2006 2:48:34 PM
5/11/2006 2:58:24 PM
i love how xcchick jumps in to defend hi5. calling $4 beers cheap, & its going to be all bud products.
5/11/2006 3:11:38 PM
i was simply explaining why the changes occured (straight from those who bought it out and are managing the events). i didnt do it.not to mention they (who bought it out) had no choice ie it was impossible to let people bring in their own beer its on a street and just wasn't possible.. soo.... either no beer on the street or sell beer. they went with selling beer. if you bought the contract and wanted to make a profit you'd do the same thing.so dont get mad at me. sneak in mini bottles and flasks for all i care. now i know most twwers are cheap mofos that are having heart attacks at the thought of paying a whooping $3 or $4 for a beer. but for the majority of people who attend these events and other such block parties its not going to hurt their wallets. so please stay at home on your computers and type away about how much it sucks and how unfair it is that things changed.[Edited on May 11, 2006 at 3:35 PM. 5/11/2006 3:28:53 PM
I mean I guess when you sorta lose an argument you can always insult people.
5/11/2006 3:35:55 PM
^^that has nothing to do with it. the fact of the matter is that they took a fun, FREE, event, and ruined it with the need to make a profit. why can't there be some events in the city that DON'T cost money from time to time? I spend a shitload of money at bars, so it's kinda nice when you can throw a six pack in a cooler and go hang out with some friends for cheap once in a while. But NOOOOOOO...they just couldn't resist assraping us when they were presented with the opportunity. fuck that. AA5 was the shit, now it's tainted.[Edited on May 11, 2006 at 3:38 PM. Reason : .]
5/11/2006 3:38:14 PM
but the people who bought it had no choice - it was either sell beer or dont allow beer on the streetblame it on WRAl for hosting it somewhere that doesnt allow the coolers deal. they're the ones who controlled it. blame it on the city for the construction that stopped it from being held where it was before.
5/11/2006 3:42:07 PM
devil's advocate here:a year or two of having it an a location where they sell beer and keeping it alive for one day moving it somewhere that will hopefully allow it to be a free event is better than letting it die.
5/11/2006 3:45:38 PM
i'll still go
5/11/2006 3:47:26 PM
I'm not mad at your company or whoever bought the contract. if that was the only way they could do it, then that's cool I guess, but the fact remains that we had a sweet deal going and now it's gone. so really, it's not alive after five. it's just the same glenwood block party that they would have from time to time. AA5 is dead
5/11/2006 3:52:42 PM
i agreeit does sucki loved how it was. not that i had the chance to go to very many.. but the ones i went too i thought it was awesome that they let you bring in beer. i wish it could have stayed like that.perhaps after construction is done and this contract is up whoever buys it can host it like it was in past.and i dont work for them. i did for a long time. and now my roommate, bf, and a few friends do. (so i'm still around there alot)i might be working some of the concerts for them to help out. (depending on my other 2 jobs)and i can't complain about making money and watching the concert.

im pretty much blaming the city. i was against this mall project from the get-go, and it seems to have more negative ramifications all the time. so many businesses have closed due to decreased pedestrian traffic, and now aa5 is potentially ruined because of it.ill probably go to check it out, but i dont have high hope.im thinking predrink+flask, maybe buy a few there.my problem is i dont much care for just beer. i would always bring a 6 of sparks, or premixed rum n cokes. buying either there will be $texas, or just not possible.yet another great animal ruined in the quest for profits.[Edited on May 12, 2006 at 9:46 AM. Reason : also that area is home to most of the predatory towing. have fun w/ that!]

5/12/2006 9:47:52 AM
theres a parking garage. but... they'll probably be charging. $3 - $7 depending on how greedy they're feeling. i requested they stock Amberbock. since they'll only have bud and mich products
5/12/2006 9:52:07 AM
5/12/2006 9:56:49 AM
actually, it might be good where it is, even if the beer situation sucks.in the past we always had to argue over who drove to the bars after. now we can just stay in glenwood south and not chance driving. plus then its convenient to crash at my buddy's place @ the dawson. i wont have to drive at all.hmm.[Edited on May 12, 2006 at 10:16 AM. 5/12/2006 10:16:10 AM
IF i plan on getting trashed on a thursday i dont do it at AA5, so the driving thing has never been an issue, can always make it to teh bar, now driving back from the bar, that is a different story
5/12/2006 10:29:33 AM
fuck a 3 or 4 dollar beer. thats the reason i went to so many, bring in the cooler. im not cheap either, i just dont like adding another night at the bars to my weekend. it was a blast, id leave with the same amount of money that i came in with. i figured it was too good to last though.
5/13/2006 7:29:55 PM
5/14/2006 7:36:50 PM
yeah i agree it does suck that you can't bring your own 6-pack of beer anymore. but the one thing everyone is forgetting though is that no one down there is holding a gun to your head making you buy beer.the event is only as expensive as u feel like drinking[Edited on May 14, 2006 at 8:49 PM. 5/14/2006 8:49:17 PM
i never went because one of my "favorite" bands was playing though. it was more of a social event where youd see people you knew, drink for free, and listen to pretty good music. if they are gonna start charging for beer they better get some better bands
5/14/2006 9:08:43 PM
^^ it was hanging out with friends and having a few beers most of the bands aren't good enough to be a reason to go

5/15/2006 8:36:47 AM
not to mention how long its going to take to get a beerimagine how long those lines are going to be if the normal amount of people show upthey better have 3 - 4 times as many serving areasi hope to god we will not have to buy drink tickets then have to stand in another line for drinks
5/15/2006 10:53:14 AM
no there wont be drink tickets
5/15/2006 10:53:50 AM
why the rolley eyesi didnt know and it sounds just right up their alley
