^wtf. Things will be changed a lot. Watch any show from 15 years ago, and see how different it is. The fact that we will have quantum computers and carbon nanotubes alone means that there will be huge differences.

Guys, it's only 14 years away.

Some things, like computers, medicine, warfare, etc. will continue to change rapidly.

Others like cars, roads, houses, jobs, etc. will change little.

We begin drilling for oil with in the US (yukons). Since there is 3 times (?--don't remember exact estimates) more crude there than in the middle east. By then the tree huggers will be ok with it, as the demand for gas has driven the oil prices to record highs.

Are you dumb dude? We haven't had the food to feed our own people in nearly a hundred years. And we aren't going to expand into farm land as urban space, you are missing the point completely.

What are you talking about? We are the largest food producer in the world, and still have room to grow in the agriculture dept if we needed to. We feed far more than our own people, having probably either the most or the 2nd most (not sure about China) ariable land in the world, and a relatively low population density. Where do you think all of the food supplies in the world come from? If we couldn't feed ourselves, then how could India even survive? Who would be able to give them food?

Quote :

If anything, we will have a larger food supply, and other nations will depend on us even more for food.

We do import a lot of food as well though. More exotic stuff like fruits and cocoa beans.

In 2020? That's 14 years off. So when I was six there were people being grungy on MTV, beavis and butthead kicked ass I think, my computer sucked completely compared to what I'm using now, and we were entering a short-lived hippy-era that I'm going to assume was brought on by the clinton administration (I remember being brainwashed or green-washed a couple times in there). So 14 years from now I'll expect we'll be reverting into another 80's like state, recovering from another recession that costs the service sector jobs due to the increasing pressure from china and india, but the manufacturing sector will start to make a comeback with more high-technology applications being used, and with the yuan becoming worth more relative to a dollar (thus making chinese exports, even though they're dumping them on our markets, less appealling). Cars will start to hit our streets that are smarter and more efficient and safer than before, and there will probably be a wider use of diesels and hybrids, but nothing spectacular, they'll still cost enough that most people will pay the $5/gallon required to get around. There might be more of an urbanization movement with increased public transportation and nicer stacked residences near urban centers (and near public transportation), but this won't be like THE THING that everyone is doing.

Plus we'll all be wearing rings around our heads and waists to make ourselves look awesome and futuristic. They'll be nike/reebok/adidas/underarmor branded as well and the church of the white tennis shoe (founded in 2014) will have reached a membership level of 120 million.

[Edited on April 25, 2006 at 12:29 AM. Reason : Though we do import, I do understand that net we do export more.]

i fail to believe that someone actually wrote that believing what they were typing. i mean seriously, you would have to be just guessing about the state of any given part of our world. and hide from information like it was the plauge.

^They'll subsequently discover a positive correlation between dieting/excercise and cancer
Then exercise will correlate, but dieting won't
Then dieting will correlate, but exercising won't
Then excercising will only if you do cardio, and the results on dieting will show no real correlation but will be avoided based on hearsay

We import nearly 100% of our coffee, cocoa and tea. Without that the whole country would fucking collapse.

Not to mention nearly 80% of our Fish and Shellfish.

And by all accounts, our food imports have risen dramatically over the past 7-10 years, food exports have been falling almost as rapidly. By most accounts we should be at a stasis point in another 3-5 years.

I can't believe you just said the country would collapse without coffee, tea, and cocoa. Even if we do import them what does that have to do with anything? We import a lot of stuff.

HEY, WE GET MOST OF OUR ITALIAN POTTERY FROM OTHER COUNTRIES!! OH NO WE ARE GONNA COLLAPSE!!!

let me fix this quote for you as well:

Quote :
"By most my own idiotic accounts we should be at a stasis point in another 3-5 years."

I repeat, we have enough food in this country to feed a billion people. we have 300 million.

NC State's athletics will PWN UNC.

Gas will be $10 a gallon.

Computers will be $100 each.

WWIII will start because of Israel/Palistine or Pakistan/India.

The U.S. will have had a woman president. My vote is for Elizabeth Dole.
