wtfi am not talking about the last fucking game
4/19/2006 1:15:36 AM
Forget the record.Look at the coverage tonight.Look at Frank Kaberle letting his mind wander, leading to a breakaway for Lecav.Look at Chad LaRose being the Canes' best player tonight. I love Chad LaRose, but he could have the best fucking game of his life and still not be at half the potential of Eric Staal. The underachieving label is based on what's on the ice right now, win or lose.
4/19/2006 1:16:16 AM
THEN WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE CANES UNDERACHIEVING????????one loss is not grounds to label a team that. a season of a team with high talent and low results is.[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 1:17 AM. Reason : gjhd34]
4/19/2006 1:16:30 AM
How about a month of it?
4/19/2006 1:17:42 AM
vinyl pretty much summed it upnot to mention the shit that went on tonight has been going on much of the last month of the seasonwe all know there is no excuse for the canes not to have gotten that #1 seed with the way the sens were playing
4/19/2006 1:18:54 AM
no, you need to be doing it for several months
4/19/2006 1:19:04 AM
i'm glad you have the underachieving guidebook handy
4/19/2006 1:19:34 AM
They've lost 12 of their last 21 games. Not to dampen anyone's spirits or anything, but they aren't exactly hitting the playoffs on a tear. Now New Jersey on the other hand... I'm scared
4/19/2006 1:19:48 AM
im the expert, remember?^exactly. they arent 'hot', but they arent underachieving.[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 1:20 AM. Reason : 0234l2]

It's easy to dwell on Montreal's big name forwards such as Kovalev, Ryder, Ribiero, and Koivu, but they've got some nice young talent there that can surprise you. Chris Higgins, a rookie, has around 23 goals IIRC. Also, I believe Jan Bulis had four goals in one game and has spent some time on their first line. In goal, Aebescher and Huet are both proven goalies (despite no playoff experience). Huet has some amazing stats and Aebescher has done very well in Colorado this year subbing for Roy. I don't expect any more 8-2 blowouts with Theodore gone , but oh well. I think things will be pretty tight, but not as tight as most series. We're lucky we didn't get Tampa...Canes in 6.
4/19/2006 1:21:27 AM
I'm completely clueless in the East, as I could really see any of the 8 teams making it, but I think it will be Detroit over San Jose in the West (Anaheim upsets Calgary in the first round).[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 1:22 AM. Reason : guess I should take this to the playoff thread]
4/19/2006 1:22:11 AM
you ppl are all suck look i think you forget that we lost cole right as our "patchy" 12 and 21 and cole was a BIG loss when you lose speed like that you have to change your whole game plan some times also we had the playoffs in the bag so what does that mean? well I'd rather lose one or 2 games to make sure everyone is healthy and etc.so all of you just wait for the playoff games till you say we suck[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 1:25 AM. Reason : spelling if for suckers]
4/19/2006 1:24:39 AM
that is the most retarded thing I have ever heardno one packs it in when they have a shot at home ice throughout the playoffs
4/19/2006 1:26:11 AM
I don't think anyone is saying they suck. Just that Montreal isn't going to be a cakewalk like the regular season series was.
4/19/2006 1:27:22 AM
^^^^^ Subbing for Roy? Aebby had been the starter in Denver for two seasons. As for the Habs' tenders (specifically Huet) and playoff experience, I'll direct your attention to rookie and pre-rookie Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe winners Patrick Roy and Ken Dryden.I am certainly not saying that the Canes suck. I certainly AM saying that I don't give a goddamn if they were 0-10-0 or 10-0-0 through the last month...the defensive coverage and the offensive zone pressure have both been lacking.[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 1:29 AM. Reason : f]
4/19/2006 1:27:48 AM
the inexperience of the habs is gonna bleed worse then Huet's popped playoff cherry
4/19/2006 1:28:20 AM
not to mention Manny Legace fared pretty damn well his first run^ you mean like the experience of Staal, Williams, and Cullen[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 1:31 AM. Reason : .]
4/19/2006 1:29:38 AM
i see no reason to expect this guy to be the next roy^no no, like the inexperience of brindamour, gerber, weight, rechi, ward [Edited on April 19, 2006 at 1:31 AM. Reason : kwjer2]
4/19/2006 1:30:16 AM
No one saw any reason for Patrick Roy to be the next Dryden when he came to camp in '85, either.
4/19/2006 1:30:48 AM
becuase its a long shot. to EXPECT this guy to break out is irrational.
4/19/2006 1:31:45 AM
WTF!?!?You say Huet has no experience but cite the experience of Gerber, with ZERO playoff games played?EDIT: My fault, Gerber went 5/6 in one period when Giguere hit his bad game.[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 1:36 AM. Reason : f]
4/19/2006 1:34:41 AM
Gerber has no real playoff experience, and the Habs have just as many vetsDandenault played for the wings for years. They have Koivu and Kovalev and Bonk, all who have experience
4/19/2006 1:35:11 AM
heut has played half a season. gerber got the job done all year long.[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 1:36 AM. Reason : 31 rr]
4/19/2006 1:36:07 AM
It's not Huet's fault that the Habs didn't want to give up on their $$$$$$$$$ Quebecois savior until halfway through the season.
4/19/2006 1:39:27 AM
^^you were the one to bring up playoff experienceand now you reroute the discussion to in-seasonhow about thisHuet has 7 shutouts this season in 32 games startedGerber has 6in his fucking career[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 1:46 AM. Reason : ,]
4/19/2006 1:41:01 AM
PS i didnt know "getting it done" was a 2.76 GAA and a .906 SV%
4/19/2006 1:42:13 AM
BTW, Huet has 89 career GP.Gerber has 113.
4/19/2006 1:43:43 AM
i had no idea that ncsu pessimism was transferable to all teams around raleigh. EVEN IF heut is as good as gerber, our offense is vastly superior, by about 60 goals.[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 1:47 AM. Reason : 564jd]

If we can pause the argument for a moment (might want to slow down, it could be a long month... or week.. depending on who you talk to), here is the schedule:Game 1: Saturday, April 22nd 7:00 PM Montreal at Carolina CBC, RDSGame 2: Monday, April 24th 7:00 PM Montreal at Carolina CBC, RDSGame 3: Wednesday, April 26th 7:00 PM Carolina at Montreal CBC, RDSGame 4: Friday, April 28th 7:00 PM Carolina at Montreal CBC, RDS Game 5: Sunday, April 30th 7:30 PM Montreal at Carolina CBC, RDS (If necessary)Game 6: Tuesday, May 2nd 7:00 PM Carolina at Montreal CBC, RDS(If necessary)Game 7: Thursday, May 4th 7:00 PM Montreal at Carolina CBC, RDS(If necessary)No NBC or OLN games in round 1 (unless they go to game 6 or 7 and some of the originally scheduled games are not necessary), so we get another dose of John and Tripp.
4/19/2006 1:47:01 AM
good night everyoneand good luck to the canes, I would like to see them play good hockey in the playoffs
4/19/2006 1:47:03 AM
4/19/2006 1:48:06 AM
on a side note, i will take the time to brag that after tonight I will have won all 4 of my hockey fantasy leaguesahanite
4/19/2006 1:51:03 AM
I'm not being pessimistic. I think the Canes will win, but to win they'll have to get on top of Montreal quickly and knock a few holes in Frenchie. All I'm saying is not to write them off, especially with the iffy nature of the Canes over the past month. On the first page, you said losing to the Habs is beyond reason. It most certainly is not.Gerber has played very well this year, and has proved he can be a starter and a good one at that...but don't throw bullshit at me about him being any more proven than Huet in the playoffs when he's got a grand total of twenty minutes in, or Huet only having a half a season's work (he's shutout the Canes in Raleigh before, remember). Goalies are my specialty.
4/19/2006 1:51:14 AM
^^^ Haha didn't mean to come off sounding like I was pissed about that. I would prefer John and Tripp, actually, since you know any of our games on OLN will be done by Joe Beninati.
4/19/2006 2:01:38 AM
Laviolette has been on NHL Live for the last 15 minutes talking about the team. Sounds like Ray Whitney is not going to be in the lineup for Game 1.
4/19/2006 10:17:56 AM
Anybody have an update on the Cole situation? Is there any chance he makes it back for any part of the playoffs?
4/19/2006 11:26:33 AM
no cole for the playoffs, im sure. unless he makes a hero appearance in the finals, hehe. he was at the game last night, he rode out with cullen after it was over... so that looks good
4/19/2006 11:29:23 AM
^is he wearing a big neck brace or anything???
4/19/2006 11:30:30 AM
^big neck brace. He's getting his neck looked at today so perhaps soon enough we'll know some sort of timetable.I'm not hopeful
4/19/2006 11:33:39 AM
^thanks
4/19/2006 11:36:17 AM
When is Eric Cole coming back?
4/19/2006 12:03:15 PM
Did you read any of the posts above yours?Probably next season.
4/19/2006 12:04:01 PM
goddamnit... I can't go to game 1 or 2. If they were Fri/Sun games, I'd be there for both. DAMNIT TO HELL
4/19/2006 12:18:19 PM
what are the dates for the playoff games?
4/19/2006 12:26:01 PM
Just remember. Canadiens, with the accent on the last syllable, is french for Canadian girls.
4/19/2006 12:39:02 PM
Let's go CANES! I am glad we didn't get #1 seed and have to play TB. Since the game is at 7 I'm hoping tailgating will be full throttle at about 5. Whose going and who know of any extra tickets etc. Let me know for a friend. late
4/19/2006 12:46:56 PM
You can still buy tickets. When I got on Ticketmaster this morning I was able to find 2 seats together in the $31 seats. Also, I believe 850 The Buzz is having a ticket drop Thursday somewhere (can't remember where). I'll be out there tailgating as soon as possible. We're trying to find a TV so that we can watch the Devils/Rangers game while we're out there.
