i marked my answers down in the answer sheet after each page

and if i skipped one i boxed the number in the test book and went back later

kept me good on time and consistent

^i wouldn't worry too much. i didn't have time to fill in any answers for about 5-8 problems on the morning section when i took it last october...and i still passed

i don't understand how you manage to run out of time on this test. the questions are designed so that if you know what you're doing, they should take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute.

when i took the exam i don't think i spent a minute on any of the questions. most of them were less than 30 seconds.

even considering that the problems aren't all that hard, there are those few problems people spend way too much time on without noticing...and then realize they're running out of time.

and not everyone's a genius...consider yourself lucky

^^I think you're being a little unrealistic. Did you get a perfect score? There's a difference between breezing through the exam (making sure you do enough to pass), and actually trying to get every problem right. Most were quick problems, but not everyone has been exposed to all of the subject matter.

When I took the exam in Oct. 2003, if I didn't know what to do for the problem immediately, I skipped it. That way I ensured myself that I was going to have at least correct answers for what I knew. After I answered all that I knew how to do without question, I went back and attempted the questionable ones. I passed the exam on my 1st attempt.

Do you actually have to sign up for an FE review class on TRACS or is there just one you can attend whenever?

You need to sign up to be guaranteed a seat, but there is usually plenty of extra room if you just want to go.

^^^^ I made a perfect score along with everyone else that passed it.

They don't tell you what you made. it's just a pass/fail test

when I took it a year and a half ago, there were PLENTY of problems that I either a.) didn't know the answer to or b.) simply got into "screw it" mode and didn't care. Those were marked with the letter "B" (the review class had decided that "B" was our answer if we weren't able to eliminate any). I passed.

How much force can the bridge you just designed and we build withstand during the hurricane while people flee for their lives?

B

I passed!! To those of you who read this message in hopes of gaining some useful input on how to prepare for the FE, here's a tip: It's not as hard as you think but study like it will be.

eh...i didn't think it was very difficult...but the passing rate is like 2/3 or something, so you are in the company of MANY others.

I've always kind of wondered how exactly do you study for the FE? How do you study 3-4 years worth of engineering material?

Take E 490 and actually attend. That's more than sufficient.

do some practice problems and learn how to use the equation book they give you
if you know where stuff is in that book you can save a lot of time

^^^ haha, yeah buddy, I saw that come in the mail, and that whole day came back to me how mad I was

I guess that second section was as easy as I thought it was.

For those of you asking how to study:

I bought a book to help study. I never went to the class, but the book was a giant pink book if I remember correctly, and it had tons of practice problems and study material for each section. But the longer you are out of school, the harder it's going to be. If i had to take that again in a few months, I definitely would have forgotten a lot of the material.
