I'll probably be there.is there a website somewhere that shows many different gun's with average prices/availability?I've been around firearms a bit and when i turn 21 in October i plan on purchasing a handgun. I really enjoy the feel of a good 1911 (fell in love with a friend's Kimber), but i have a soft spot for Sig's. Anyways, i was thinking about buying a cheap handgun that could use some work/upgrades as a first gun. Any suggestions? I know its personal preference but at least I'll have a place to start. Thanks

^How cheap is 'cheap' to you?
4/19/2006 12:49:32 AM
200-300or better said, anything up to 300ish.[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 12:57 AM. Reason : ¿]

Eek. Up to $300 pretty much bars you from any of the big-name pistols...but you MIGHT be able to swing a CZ-75, which would ROCK.

About how much would a AK run me there? And would I be able to get a 80 rnd drum there as well?I know a guy that has a FFL and I was going to get him to order it for me, but if I could just go pick one up there it might be easier.Song of the South??? So I take it the vendors are gonna hold my melanin against me huh?
4/19/2006 2:01:28 PM
Check out PDHSC, they have a few FakeK-47s lying about for you to fondle. Prices scattered around $350.You can get 75-round drums online, as far as I know—I haven't bothered to check prices, though.
4/19/2006 2:43:02 PM
IMO AKs are junk for anything other than plinking, not very accurate, but, if you're wanting a drum, i take it you dont really care
4/19/2006 3:11:50 PM
Well, a properly-built AK from one of the old Warsaw Pact countries will be fine for "minute of person" out to a couple hundred meters. Which is really all you need.A modern issue Russian AK can easily be a 2MOA rifle, never mind one of the fancypants AN-94s or AK10xs.
4/19/2006 3:16:49 PM
$300 will limit you quite a bit. You may be able to find a few used for less than that. The first thing that comes to mind is a Makarov, but it's in 9x18 (I imagine you would want something larger).
4/19/2006 3:18:52 PM
Yeah, I was looking at a AK since I heard they were cheap, cheap ammo and I can say "Hey, I have a AK". People that know guns wont know the negatives . I just want something fun to shoot with , and it will be my first rifle. Im not trying to be a marksman
4/19/2006 3:28:29 PM
^^I think im just biased. I had a chineese sks that i couldnt shoot better than about a damn 6" group at 100m with, but a lot of that was the shitty scope mount for those guns...I like the black rifles although the 5.56 is pretty weak
4/19/2006 3:29:50 PM
whats the rules with taking your own gun. i just wanna get a 8 or maybe 10 round clip for my springfield armory.now, i dont have a concealed permit, but the gun is legal to me. and i dont ever carry it around, except i when i goto the range, where its in the gun case that the gun came with. would that be considered concealed? of course im not gonna be walking in with it in my hand, and i dont have a holster.there is a hole on the case where i can put a little lock on it. would that be legal enough, cuz i know this gun show will probably be pretty strict[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 3:43 PM. 4/19/2006 3:40:02 PM
they just clear it at the door then put a zip tie or some bullshit through the eject port, not a big deal at all. Id carry it in the case...
4/19/2006 3:42:43 PM
werd.
4/19/2006 3:43:21 PM
Well, if you want to get into shooting, some of us could take you out.:p (To a range, not shoot you.)***You should seriously consider an SKS. For long range sessions, they're better than AKs because you can just load via stripper clip instead of having to top off magazines. IMO, they're more comfortable. And they're usually more accurate. A Yugo SKS will be under $200, easy; that other $100 is enough to get at least a case (500rd) of 7.62x39 ammunition, plus a bunch of extra stripper clips. Besides, there's a certain aspect of badassery to stripping a reload off of a clip that you just can't match with a magazine. http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Yugoslavian_Model_59_66_7_62x39_SKS_Rifle.htmlhttp://www.interordnance.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=INTERORDNANCE.com&Product_Code=SKSK0001-Ehttp://www.surplusrifle.com/sks/index.aspPDHSC prices 500 rounds of Wolf 7.62x39 at $90, if I remember correctly. AIM's shipping charge will be about $15, PDHSC's transfer fee will be $30—so that means rifle plus ammunition will be about $285. (Interordnance's shipping charge should be about the same, $15~$20.) Also consider shopping online at places like Gunbroker and Gunsamerica.Remember, guns have to be shipped to an FFL (most places charge you for receiving firearms, that's the transfer fee I mentioned above).http://www.gunbroker.comhttp://www.gunsamerica.comCoincidentally, the Wake County FETC (GREAT indoor range, IMO) has an orientation day THIS SUNDAY. The charge is $15, which is for a pretty decent newbie's orientation (range safety, a bit about weapon handling, etc.), an hour of range time ($10 value), and of course a range card.http://www.wakegov.com/ccbi/fetc/schedule.htmThe FETC is about the only rifle range that's "close" to State. Real friendly crew.
4/19/2006 4:01:59 PM
/\ Thanks man. That was really helpful. I will definetely look at the SKS as well. Even though it doesn't have the "insurgent" flair of a AK.Anybody ever do sporting clays? If so, how was it? I was thinking about checking Deep River out.
4/19/2006 4:22:37 PM
I second the SKS - make sure it's a Yugo. Also, don't ever put detachable magazines on one. It will feed 1/20 times.^^ I know they don't allow steel core ammunition, but what about steel jacketed? Is it as bad on the backstop? I have a bunch of steel cored and steel jacketed 7.62x54 that I can't seem to shoot anywhere.[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 4:26 PM. Reason : b]

4/19/2006 4:32:40 PM
FETC allows everything up to .50BMG. I blast off with 8mm all the time.Oh yeah, if you guys go to the orientation, tell them that FRANK CHEN sent you. I get a free range pass for referring people. [Edited on April 19, 2006 at 5:07 PM. Reason : Shameless plug]
4/19/2006 5:06:45 PM
damn id like to see the back of their range
4/19/2006 5:13:11 PM
Quoth the RO giving the orientation: 6 feet of chopped up tires. That'll do it. :pLooking down the 100m line:
4/19/2006 5:40:58 PM
i'd love to get an ak (or similiar) kit and build one. Cheaper, and id love to get a good knowledge of the interworkings of them.[Edited on April 19, 2006 at 9:46 PM. Reason : liek?]
4/19/2006 9:43:44 PM
they still have the angled steel (as seen in the pic) I bet .50bmg knocks massive chunks out of that...
4/19/2006 9:45:25 PM
7.62x54 isn't that big, it's comparable to .308. I may just head out there with the steel jacketed stuff someday, it should be fine.
4/19/2006 11:16:41 PM
yeah appairently this place dont care...pretty cool
4/19/2006 11:19:27 PM
I guess I should have said "everything up to, but not including, .50BMG".
4/20/2006 7:04:36 AM
I'm so psyched about the Raleigh show, we're going to have cards, brochures, a credit card machine... And of course we'll have a Winchester somewhere.
4/22/2006 9:39:28 AM
^^ Still, that includes a lot of big ass shit....^ i just need a brick of 5.56 cheap....a dirt cheap trijicon would be sweet though...
4/22/2006 12:38:41 PM
^ i'd love to get a dirt cheap EOTech
4/22/2006 2:41:47 PM
lol, "dirt cheap" + "Trijicon" does not compute.
4/22/2006 2:41:48 PM
^just add + wishful thinking
4/22/2006 2:47:58 PM
So, who is going?Anyone want to go as a group?

5/6/2006 7:12:57 PM
There are a few deals to be had; you'll likely have to barter for a lot of stuff.Ammo is to be had in plenty. My buddy got some Ecuadorian milsurp 8mm (apparently not too great as SHTF ammo, but fine for range duties), $40 for 500 AND a can. Not bad at all.I picked up some Swiss milsurp (normal pricing; $25/60) and chargers ($5/6), along with some SKS strippers ($5/10).
5/6/2006 11:40:54 PM
man if i could find some ss109 for that price, that would rock...ill probably see some of yall tomrrow, depneds on if these chicks show up to get in the hot tub like they said they would
5/7/2006 1:23:40 AM
if anyone is headed that way, i need 10-20 sks stripper clips, willing to hand somebody the cash for them plus a buck or two extra for the trouble. Also looking for 500 or so rounds of 8mm mauser ammo.
5/7/2006 2:44:42 AM
Well it was a good show for us, we broke a record and doubled our money on a Winchester. When it's shitty weather, that's when the bucks roll in. It just seems like rain keeps the guys in the showroom all day long.[Edited on May 7, 2006 at 7:06 PM. Reason : .]
