"can you say "Princeton Offense?"

My only gripe was with the offense, and Gillispie runs the same shit. Please no!"

just b/c a team has some low scoring games doesnt mean they run that offense, doofus.

well gillispie does run a slow-down style offense at a&m, which is probably boring to watch, but he ran an uptempo, runnin the floor offense at UTEP when he had the personnel to do it.

ESPN:

What's the deal with Billy Gillispie?
Why does everyone assume he would leave Texas A&M for another gig? What would be so tempting about going to Indiana or NC State when he's perfectly happy in College Station?

Gillispie's name has appeared in local newspapers regarding those recent openings. The NC State one is still vacant.

Yet, Gillispie's from Texas and doesn't plan on leaving. The Aggies have compensated him well and are in the process of getting approval for an annuity.

The easy answer is that folks in these supposedly higher-level jobs assume that Gillispie would leave after leading UTEP to an NCAA berth for the first time in 12 years in 2004 and then leading A&M to one last month. The last time the Aggies had been in the tournament was 1987.

So in three short seasons, he does look like the Wunderkid, but that shouldn't mean he's got a ticket out of town. Gillispie is on the verge of making A&M a major player in the Big 12 for years to come.

In his second season in College Station, Gillispie's Aggies notched a 22-9 record (10-6 in Big 12). They easily knocked off Syracuse in the first round and then lost to LSU in Round 2 on a late 3 by Darrel Mitchell. The Aggies return their top six scorers from last season, including Acie Law (16.1 ppg) and Joseph Jones (15.3 ppg) -- the latter a potential preseason Big 12 player of the year candidate.

Gillispie also gets the need to change his schedule. The Aggies nearly got left out of the Tournament -- ultimately ending up as a 12-seed -- because of a weak nonconference schedule, but Gillispie plans on changing that next season with a return game at Auburn, a potential game against Saint Louis in an exempted tournament at College Station, a home game against Pacific, and possibilities against LSU (on the road), Miami (neutral) and Washington State.

"We don't want to put ourselves in a position where we're a shaky bubble team because of the decisions we made in scheduling," Gillispie said. "We don't want to be in that position again."

Gillispie is staying put. He hasn't heard from NC State and he knows where he fits, where he's comfortable -- in College Station.

isn't it quite obvious that I am bitter about our shitty fans running a great man/coach out of town and I am going to disrespect every coaching candidate until we start winning basketball games just to spite those fans

...but to answer your question, I want somebody who is established at ONE school, not somebody who has either coached less than three years OR somebody who has coached at 3 schools in 3 years.

he wants a no-name so he'll feel good about himself.

the epitome of selfish, 4th grade behavior.

apparently we want a personality, not a coach, anyway. thats why we are focusing on Haith and Whittenburg. Get ready for the NIT!

what about Dana Altman?

I'd love to get PJ.

Then he would have to bring in some assistants since he's in the NBA right now....and maybe he could hire Derek as an assistant. So when PJ retires in 5-7 years, Derek can take over. Pipe Dream.

here's what I want:

I want PJ. I want Archie to get a job at a mid-major in a year or two. I want Archie to be very successful. I want PJ to coach for about 5 years and lead us to many NCAA tournaments and bring in some big recruits since he is a big name guy. Then I want either Archie or Whitt to come in once they have more experience.

that is the perfect scenario to me.

...if that doesn't happen, I guess Alford will do for now.

WHY is everyone insisting on a fucking alum to come be our head coach?

i haven't seen a single shred of evidence to imply that ANY alum of ours is capable of coaching us to ACC prominence.

and kruk, grow up. i was every bit as much of a herb supporter as you, but i'm smart enough to realize when the man is gone. i'm still just as much of a pack fan, and as such i am hoping for the best coach we can get.

haith is right up there at the top of the list, and gillispie was at the top until we decided it wasn't gonna happen.

I too want the best we can get

PJ was a great college coach and recruiter. He is a VERY well known name. The parents and the kids know who he is and where he's been. He was a decent NBA coach and now is a good assistant with the Spurs. I think with his experience, knowledge and name recognition he could do a hell of a job at State.

trust me, I kid a lot about the state of our basketball program but don't get my sarcasm mistaken for my true love of Wolfpack basketball. regardless of who comes in, I'll still go to every home game and cheer like crazy. I just want what's best and I'm not sure that inexperienced coaches or coaches who move from school-to-school-to-school are the right ones.

I'm out
