i know this trend has kinda gone towards immigration but i just want to say that yea i know alot of people voted for Bush because of his policy on gay marriage. My own mother, a woman who brought me up to be a hard and true democrat, voted for Bush because of his views on gay marriage and because Kerry wouldn't take a stance.

^ Yea, Bill Clinton knew what to do there. At some points it seemed he wouldn't stop railing against gay marriage, nevermind that he wasn't even running for office.

Had he been he would have won, if what you say is accurate, which I doubt.

I prefer the economic argument. Bush won because the economy was good.

I wouldn't care if the gays could marry. Hell, it might be a benefit to society. I just wish we could manage to do it correctly: Get the friggin' legislature to pass a law! Judicial/Mayoral activism doesn't help maintain system legitimacy.

are gays people? if yes then why should they have to have their rights defined?

^ Because that is what the legislature is there for, to make laws.

It doesn't say anywhere in the constitution that people have a right to state-sanctioned marriage. As such, the republic granted elements of our government doesn't address this issue. Therefore, it falls to the democratic elements to decide.
