or the printed evidence of langley's "alleged" coersion. which will surface first?

All the muck that's fit to rake.
4/6/2006 3:27:57 AM
^^depends on how you want to define "surface," since the proof of lying Elections Commissioner(s) was all over Witherspoon last night while the proof of "coercion" is still apparently only in the possession of the Elections Commission.I don't doubt there will be a concerted effort to get Langley DQ'd, but now the die has been cast -- the Elections Commission can no longer claim impartiality, when you clearly have Commissioner(s) lying solely for the purpose of DQ'ing the #1 vote getter[Edited on April 6, 2006 at 8:54 AM. Haha. Some student government you have got there. No one takes it seriously as is and when the wrong person wins an election the rest of the student government body lashes out as a result of bruised egos.
4/6/2006 9:19:28 AM
that and they hit him 2x for the same offense -- gave him a notification for chalking on the wall (which according to the hearing was removed when the Langley campaign was called) but then gave him a warning for a separate chalking on the ground in the exact same area likely by the same people with the same piece of chalkit's almost as bad as University Transportation giving me 2 parking tickets for the same violation... ]

4/6/2006 11:53:17 AM
the things i read that they were considering in the tech yesterday weree-mail spamming via greek organizations, and offering executive positions to ppl to have the violation stuff dealt with quickly. that his mass e-mailing actually got to quick asking him to vote for langley seems like he brought this on himself somewhat.i hadn't heard about the chalking too close thing, i had noticed the chalking where rain can't hit it, but chalk doesn't seem like a big deal to me.Also never say this to a bureaucracy:
4/6/2006 12:04:54 PM
^yeah there's no question Langley has been a little...ummm...cavalier with his commentary but given some of what's been passed around Technician's newsroom, he has a point on some issues. regardless, at least if he's going to be disqualified make sure it's for stuff he's actually done instead of fabricated BS.
4/6/2006 12:11:06 PM
It might as well be partisan now. What you have is the Sigma Chi Party versus the Everybody With A Goddamn Brain party. All they need is symbols. For the SCP I recommend a stick figure with a popped collar molesting a passed-out drunk chick while handing out tickets to sporting events illegally. I tried to make that, but I'm still not used to drawing shit on a laptop. The EWAGBP would have a picture of someone getting getting things based on merit rather than nonfunctional social connections and inherited wealth. I still haven't decided how to depict that graphically, but I'll think of something. Alternatively, it could just have the stick figure from the above hanging from a tree while on fire.
4/6/2006 1:16:15 PM
^ I suggest you get over you inferiority complex now while you still have a good 60 years of your life left. A disproportionate percentage of congress people, senators and presidents have been greek and I believe that trend will continue. Get over it.

I think the same can be said for non-greeks as well. Being greek and being smart, compitent and deserving are not mutually-exclusive.
4/6/2006 1:48:09 PM
I suppose not, though one tends to wonder what a smart, competent, and deserving person is doing in greek life to begin with.I've certainly run into a few frat lackeys that seem to meet those qualities, but on the whole Greek life is a big enough cancer that I must concern myself with combating it and not dallying in particulars.
4/6/2006 2:15:32 PM
i have a hard time backing up greek life as a whole usuallythe previous 2 semester's grade reportshttp://www.ncsu.edu/greek_life/forms/GradesF05.pdfhttp://www.ncsu.edu/greek_life/forms/GradesS05.pdfall of them are at http://www.ncsu.edu/greek_life/forms/index.html
4/6/2006 2:20:27 PM
Only 8% of the student body is greek afiliated. For such a small number of students with "psychological and personality deficiencies" why even waste your time "combating" them. Won't they just die off...a la academic and social natural selection?Last semester - all greek average was .02 lower than the all student average. Take out the non-ifc sororities and fraternities at the bottom and I bet the averages will be equal.[Edited on April 6, 2006 at 2:26 PM. Reason : grades][Edited on April 6, 2006 at 2:27 PM. Your main complaint against greek life seems to be that incompetent greeks get elected and appoint their incompetent fraternity/sorority friends. I assure you that political cronyism neither began nor will end with greeks. It is easiy to accuse greeks of cronyism because of their public affiliation with an organization. Quid Pro Quo transcends greek affiliation my friend.
4/6/2006 3:57:52 PM
people just hate on the greeks...romans, carthaginians...they need something to hate, because they can't be a part of it.[Edited on April 6, 2006 at 4:06 PM. Reason : .]

Things I find ironic:1. GrumpyGOP being against a "set of exclusive social clubs to have disproportionate sway" when the last three letters of his username are G-O-P. Hypocritical much?(Note: There will always be someone who's of a higher caliber than you...whether they chose to demonstrate it is the question. Most people don't and you can't blame the person who chooses to demonstrate their caliber for that. Somewhere out there, there's a basketball player better than Michael Jordan, but we'll never know them...do we blame MJ for that?)2. People on TWW continuing to talk about something they say they care nothing about. 3. I think it's funny that the group-think that people criticize Greeks for happens on TWW everyday (and, quite frankly, isn't nearly as prevasive as you might think among Greek organizations).4. It's always easier to be against something than for anything. Trust me on this, I'm a Democrat. [Edited on April 6, 2006 at 4:10 PM. Reason : add #4]

Its perfectly fine not to associate with a greek organization - but I wouldn't go as far as to say that they can't get in. There is a chapter on campus for just about every type of personality - even sexual orientation. Common misconception is that all fraternities are the same. I think the GPA report posted above proves that.

I'm a fan of not talking about things I have no direct knowledge about. AKA if you're not Greek, don't bash the Greek system. But then again, that's just me and my manners...can't expect that from everyone.
4/6/2006 4:53:23 PM
OK, so your manners, then, would dictate that you not talk shit about something you're not involved in.I guess Nazis, Commies, NAMBLA members, terrorists, etc are all off limits.

That being said, I don't really see what the big gripe is. It's just like joining a club, people join clubs all the time. Also, if
