well, exercise (whether you want to believe it or not) is invasive (not in the traditional sense of "i'm gonna cut you open"), but in the sense that the forces placed upon someone's body during exercise are transferred to the bone and then to the joints (invasive?)...so, if a person's biomechanics aren't on point, they're setting your themselves up for joint degradation over time...a person who says, "i'm good at doing x (sport/exercise), so i think i'm qualified to teach another individual" is confusing their experience of practicing said sport with learning about the components of said sport...yeah, they can train themselves but can they properly microprogess someone that is 20 lbs. overweight???and yes, some elite athletes (even triathletes) are totally ignorant of biomechanics, nutrition, physiology, etc....most of the time this occurs when when someone is genetically gifted and another person coaches/trains them and the athlete follows blindly...i'm not saying this is true of Liu, i'm just saying it does happen and not to assume because someone is "good" or looks fit they are geniuses at prescribing exercise...i'm not here to credit or discredit Liu in any way...he's the one that said i had "money in my eyes" and that "trainers are a waste of money" (not ver batim)...if he had a rationale behind his statements then maybe i could concede to one or both of his points...as of yet, i haven't heard a rationale...ultimately, the reason i posted was to help this girl lose weight...my suggestion to the woman was that a person can achieve weight loss quicker with a competent trainer (could be me or someone else)...[Edited on March 30, 2006 at 1:54 PM. I'll deconstruct your statements later.

To answer the original girls post:Get a heart rate monitor. Run at least 20 minutes every time you run, keep your heart rate in the fat burning zone (the monitor will show you how to calculate this).Eat better.Lift weights to supplement the running.Swim to help your cardiovascular system keep up with the legs for running and to keep your body limber. Or pilates, or yoga, or any other cross training you enjoy. And expect losing 20 pounds to take you probably 8-12 weeks to do it right.

I'm pretty sure LiusClues makes those blunt statements because there is like 900 other threads like this and all the same stuff get said.

i am pretty sure this thread sucks now
3/30/2006 3:39:24 PM
^^^ any idea how much a heart rate monitor costs. My mom has Pilates tapes at home will try to find them and work on them. thanks for the info.

It's pretty easy to lose weight by dehydrating yourself.

dont lift weights. muscle weighs more than fat and youll not burn fat that way, just build muscle underneath it. Google Crossfit and get on that. A buddy of mine got his girl doing it and she went from a size 9 to a size 1, and she's bangin. eat right, lay off the booze, and fuck a lot (good workout, less your dude sucks...)
3/30/2006 11:17:11 PM
dont take in any calcium. bone weighs more than fat and youll not burn fat that way, just build bones underneath it. ^ Muscle is good. A pound of muscle burns approximately 35 calories a day just by existing. Add 10 lbs of muscle and you'll burn an extra 2/3 of a pound of fat per week (all things being equal.) Besides, it looks good in the right proportions.
3/31/2006 12:49:22 AM
Yup, muscle is good.

Good lord people...Of course I was joking. I only wish Rudy could say the same.
3/31/2006 9:40:16 AM
yeah im dumb cuz ive been lifting weights for years. People that only weight train trying to LOSE WEIGHT never understand why they dont get that 6 pack or lose weight. You will not burn a signifigant amount of fat just lifting weights, and chicks dont typically want to be built up anyway, so fuck you guys

^yep, been PTin with the mil for 5 yrs. All my comments at least refer back to the obviously out of shape chick that started the thread, and she needs to take it easy till she figures out what she's doin... one of the reasons i said no weight training... my problem with working out in the morning is i can do cardio fine, but i have abosolutely no power to weight train...my body is like naturally lazy
4/1/2006 10:29:37 AM
swim twice a day for at least an hour each time

how? when there is no difference?the best time to eat in relation to performance gains is after not before exercise.
4/2/2006 1:12:46 AM
of course the right food after a workout is essential to recovery, but pre-workout nutrition is essential to optimum performance.[Edited on April 2, 2006 at 1:17 AM. Reason : -0]
