peeps say herb is a good recruiter (which he is), but everyobdy seems to miss the fact that he is HORRIBLE at developing players. His players are no better as seniors than they were as freshmenp2[Edited on March 10, 2006 at 7:25 PM. Reason : ]

^ Melvin, Hodge, Cam, Ced, Scooter. That's just some in recent memory that were better as seniors than they were as freshman. At the same time, we've never had a recruit that had so much upside (That's why NC State players in the NBA aren't dynamos, by any means of the word. If Herb was such a detriment, Hodge should be averaging 20 & 10. Instead, he's in the NBDL.)
3/10/2006 7:29:03 PM
^pretty much at every school you will have seniors better than when they were freshmen...
3/10/2006 7:30:41 PM
I know...just explaining how stupid an idea it is that people say that players don't improve under Herb.
3/10/2006 7:31:29 PM
gotcha
3/10/2006 7:32:18 PM
scoot was a McD's AA....he didn't really play til his senior year, that imo is a problem
3/10/2006 7:51:53 PM
^he didnt really play defense till his senior year as well
3/10/2006 8:03:41 PM
I was hoping that he'd be fired at half-time today, if that were possible. Maybe he will be once we lose a close game in the NCAA tourney due to another boneheaded late-game play call.
3/10/2006 8:15:06 PM
Yea i always imagine Wendell H. Murphy coming down in a private helicopter with a bullhorn like"HERB...YOU'RE FIRED...KISS MY ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS HERB"
3/10/2006 8:16:47 PM
if herb gets fired it will be becaused wendell ok'd it- so if anyone runs into him please lobby for firing herbert- and wendell always asks who could do better so have a replacement in mindi also wonder...wendell should consider if he ever in his business of hog farming would have put up with mediocitry like herbert's bball would he be this rich? no, why put up with it in his university. Also if anyone runs into Lee harass him about firing him as well.
3/11/2006 3:01:50 PM
The only reason we haven't gotten rid of Herb is becuase of Wendell Murphy. His family is very good friends with the Sendek's, and I'd imagine he'd be afraid to put that relationship in jeopardy if he was to be fired.
3/11/2006 3:07:29 PM
no, the reason we havent fired herb is because he took a program out of the gutter and has built it into a top 25 team, and now is bringing in 5 star recruits.you people are idiots
3/11/2006 3:20:52 PM
3/11/2006 3:27:23 PM
I'm not gonna jump on the fire sendek bandwagon till I see how we are in the next 2 years. He has the talent now and with Simmons/Grant/Brackman hopefully staying 4 years, Fells/Costner/Mccauley hopefully developing as well as 2005 Freshmen class did, and Chris Wright coming 2008, there is no reason why we should not be successful. Plus with all that athletic ability that we'll have, hopefully sendek will migrate away from the princeton offense and adopt a more cut throat offense.
3/11/2006 3:41:29 PM
if you step away from the bluster of the "fire herb" crowd...you see that herb is actually a good coach who just has no support anymore and just cant get over the hump. here's hoping he leaves on his own terms after this year and wins some titles in another league. and here's hoping that theres actually a classy coach out there right now to replace him, b/c i sure as hell dont see anyone whos primed for this position right now. who the hell are we going to get, some guy from the MVC?

theres no trying to rationalize this with you people. its either "OMG FIRE HERB AND BURN HIS HOUSE AND LETS MOVE RICK BARNES HERE ON OUR BACKS" or "OMG YOU LOVE HERB".I think both sides are stupid.
3/11/2006 3:53:23 PM
so we should take the middle ground and only semi-fire herb?
3/11/2006 3:55:51 PM
beat him with the baton
3/11/2006 3:56:17 PM
^^^I think Herb's a good recruiter, a mediocre coach (Good program builder-but not an eite coach), and a terrible in-game decision-maker. I think we would have been a lot better had we switched offenses to what he learned from Pitino 3-4 years ago and recruited into it accordingly. I think there are plenty of people who would at least listen if we contacted them about coaching here, and I think I'm willing to take a risk doing that. I also wish Herb the best... this offense just isn't going to work in a conference as athletic as the ACC. How's that?(Hell, I said in another thread I'd get off of his ass if he said he'd get out of this "OMF SHOOT 3 POINTERS" offense he runs. We have no shot in hell at ever being a consistently good team with that mentality)[Edited on March 11, 2006 at 4:00 PM. Reason : ]

I'm not gonna jump on the fire sendek bandwagon till I see how we are in the next 2 years. He has the talent now and with scooter/melvin hopefully staying 4 years, Mejia/o'donnell/hodge hopefully developing as well as 2002 Freshmen class did, and gavin grant coming in 2005, there is no reason why we should not be successful. Plus with all that athletic ability that we'll have, hopefully sendek will migrate away from the princeton offense and adopt a more cut throat offense. [Edited on March 11, 2006 at 4:10 PM. ^^^thats how i feelI want either a) someone who emphasizes going all-out for 40 minutes on the whole court (look at UAB or Arkansas in the mid-90s or b) someone known for a strong inside gameboth must have a proven track record for consistency and program integrityno Kelvin Sampson, I dont give a fuck where hes fromno Bruce Pearl, hes not leaving anyway, he just got a raisei thought Barnes was a twat at ClemPson, I'm not a fan of his[Edited on March 11, 2006 at 4:03 PM. I really do think our most legit shot of landing a big name coach would be Barnes. Not saying it could happen or that I want him (covering my ass here before I get flamed.. ehe), but I think with his ties to this area, he'd be one of the first we'd call. It'd be a matter of money and job security, IMO. Not sure we could get CalipariJay Wright just signed an extension (And he's got it made anyways). Pearl signed an extension. However, hiring a lesser named coach isn't always a bad move. That's exactly how Duke got Krzooski. Like I said, I think it's worth considering.[Edited on March 11, 2006 at 4:20 PM. Reason : ]

DO IT! MAYBE WENDELL WILL WALK BY, SEE IT, AND FIRE HIM RIGHT NOWand take lee fowler with himkinda like in walkin tall Lee Fowler "now i can vouch for each and every one of these men, theyre good deputies"Wendell Murphy "They're all fired"
3/11/2006 5:08:09 PM
there is nobody we could get that would be an improvement over herb, and no matter who we get, that's 3-4 years of worse results than this for us to get a new system started3-4 years from now we will be improved a lot if we just keep sendek. i know you will argue that people say that every year, but it's true every year. look where we were 3-4 years ago compared to now. look where we were 8 years ago, 10-12 years ago before herb was here. we're getting better, there's no reason to believe this is the end.
3/11/2006 5:21:23 PM
look where we were last year compared to now, woo!
3/11/2006 5:23:52 PM
last year we had to beat wake in the acc tournament just to make the ncaa tournament. now obviously we were coming on strong then as opposed to falling apart now, but there's still time start hitting our shots and win a few games.i don't think we'll lose our first game, but if we get matched up against a #1 seed in the 2nd round (ie we are an 8 or 9) then our chances of repeating the sweet 16 are very slim. we can beat a #1 seed on a good shooting night though, so it really is too early to say.
3/11/2006 5:41:45 PM
We have done better this year, but it's only becuase everyone else's team left for the NBA. GT is much weaker than normal. Wake is much weaker than normalMaryland is much weaker than normalThis is the exact reason we finished 2nd in 2002.
3/11/2006 5:51:13 PM
^Maryland is about the same. They made the NIT last year.UVA is better. FSU is better. Clemson is better. Same could be said the other way.
