Packbacker....Has Barnes not had trouble keeping his kids elligible at Texas? I know they had that kid a few years ago they lost to grades and probably cost them their season.
2/23/2006 7:10:10 PM
PJ Tucker, from Raleigh. actuallyI wouldn't say that's a coach not being clean though. It's not like he snuck him into school or anything, Tucker just quit trying academically, apparently. I dont know If I'd consider that a blemish on Barnes, really.[Edited on February 23, 2006 at 7:12 PM. Reason : ]
2/23/2006 7:11:26 PM
actually my choice would be Mike Davis
2/23/2006 7:12:37 PM
That's gotta be a joke
2/23/2006 7:14:28 PM
I think Mike Davis could take our players right now and win with them. But I'd hate to have him as a coach. At least Herb is classy.
2/23/2006 7:17:08 PM
Come to think of itIf I recall correctly, didn't the same thing happen to Jordan Collins?[Edited on February 23, 2006 at 7:18 PM. Reason : academically ineligible]
2/23/2006 7:17:46 PM
Yeah probably. Actually I remember our basketball team had a lower score when those new academic rankings came out than our football team. hahaFuck it...get Barnes here. no but seriously...I thought I had heard somewhere that he's not clean. But that could be made up. I really dont know.
2/23/2006 7:20:18 PM
of course i was kidding
2/23/2006 7:21:02 PM
Jordan had to sit the fall semester of his junior year.boy, you are digging for dirt on Herb if that's the best you can bring up![Edited on February 23, 2006 at 7:22 PM. Reason : ,]
2/23/2006 7:21:39 PM
I'm digging up dirt....that happened 2 years ago?And I just got finished saying it isn't something that should make Barnes look bad that a player was academically ineligible, it happens everywhere....even here..... yet I'm digging up dirtI mean really, is it that hard?
2/23/2006 7:24:34 PM
I dont think packbacker has said fire Herb once, he's just pointing out the flaw in my comment. Can we not just all agree that Herb doesn't deserve to be fired, but he needs to change something?
2/23/2006 7:28:56 PM
My point exactlyWe'd be dumb to fire Herb (Unless Phil Jackson was on a plane here). I think our system limits our capabilities, and until I see a Herb coached team rebound, take the ball inside, stop blowing leads, and learn to break a full court press without stupid rainbow passes, I don't think we're going to become a good (CONSISTENT) team. It's been this way for years[Edited on February 23, 2006 at 7:33 PM. Reason : ]
2/23/2006 7:31:26 PM
i dont think herb has whatever it is that makes great coaches great, or at least he hasnt developed it yet
2/23/2006 7:40:46 PM
What is it that he doesn't have though? I mean he really did try and get intense during the game last night. Im at a loss of what goes on when we play Duke/UNC, because we are a top 10 team playing anyone else.
2/23/2006 7:46:13 PM
While we're dealing with hypotheticals, I'd like to see Rick Pitino at State, the head coach at Illinois, Donovan from UF, Rick Barnes (NC native and grew up as a huge State fan), the coach at Villanova, or Sampson from Oklahoma (a Lumbee from NC), just to name a few.
2/23/2006 7:49:10 PM
Donovan and Sampson over Herb. Wow.
2/23/2006 7:51:24 PM
well Duke/UNC and the Big Eastour teams never have the killer instinct to finish people off, and what do we do when we get behind by like 12 in a big game? Totally abandon our competent inside game for a barrage of threes instead of easy points in the painti blame herb for that^ id take both over herb, i just wish we had a different coach going into next year, i'm sick of this shit[Edited on February 23, 2006 at 7:52 PM. Reason : /]
2/23/2006 7:51:36 PM
2/23/2006 7:52:33 PM
which makes us like 1-7 vs the big east or something in the last 3 years
2/23/2006 7:54:13 PM
granted it's been a couple of years, but what about that ~18 point comeback against a VERY good WFUi think that was one pretty damned good example of Herb's half-time coaching
2/23/2006 7:54:27 PM
i agree, but there are just so many examples of us coming out of halftime totally flat and lifeless
2/23/2006 7:55:14 PM
2/23/2006 8:05:35 PM
was that a matter of him not making a good half-time adjustment?
2/23/2006 8:06:19 PM
That was a matter of him going into his "We've got the lead... just waste the clock and shoot up a prayer 3 pointer when the shot clock is under 5 seconds" offense. We always do that. Hell, look at the Miami game. We're so caught up in not losing and wasting clock we ruin everything that got us to that point. [Edited on February 23, 2006 at 8:09 PM. Reason : ]
2/23/2006 8:08:16 PM
Dont for get losing to MD the same year we came back to beat wake.Oh, and the MD loss was a 20 some point lead in the tournament
2/23/2006 8:11:31 PM
^ The year they won the ACC tournament... I remember that.
2/23/2006 8:13:12 PM
We almost blew the VT game this year too (up 22 early in the 2nd half only to have the lead widdled down to 2 points).State's teams, under Herb, have usually lacked a killer instinct. I'd love to know how many double digit 2nd half leads we have blown and eventually lost over the years...
2/23/2006 8:16:51 PM
2/23/2006 8:18:41 PM
Didn't we have a 12 point lead on Wisconsin last year in the NCAA tournament?[Edited on February 23, 2006 at 8:23 PM. Reason : It was 9...just checked. We lost by 9]
2/23/2006 8:20:29 PM
Yeah, I'm gonna blame the Wisconson game on moving screens that lead to about 4 dunks in a row and turned the crowd in their favor. We weren't able to bounce back from that...although they weren't that good of a team and we should have bounced back.
2/23/2006 8:26:24 PM
where are all the morons that are going to bash us for realistically talking about the problems with our programprolly still crying over the UNC loss with evtimov's dick in their mouth
2/23/2006 8:28:57 PM
they'll be back soon enough (although I semi-defended evtimov from another post of yours)
2/23/2006 8:32:15 PM
yeah, Illian has been busy sticking his dick in several mouths
2/23/2006 8:33:33 PM
i remember playing at the west forsyth YMCA when evtimov was a HS senior and I was toochris paul was like 13 and his older brother was like 17my friend josh shehan who played at App St. also playedevtimov was easily the 3rd best player on that court, chris would rip evtimov like everytime he'd try to bring it up for his squadafter talking all his shit about being signed to NCSU and being embarrassed like 4-5 times there, he stopped coming after a monthhe was a bitch[Edited on February 23, 2006 at 8:36 PM. Knight wouldnt come to tobacco road, but god damn, how crazy would it be if he came here and actually won? The triangle would have 3 of the best coaches that ever lived. ok /dreaming
2/23/2006 10:53:55 PM
wait, im forgetting somethingto get 100% support, we better hire a guidojust name all the italian coaches in the ncaa, we'll grab one of them
2/23/2006 10:55:33 PM
John Calipari. Not gonna happen but wouldn't it be great if Herb got fired and all the Memphis kids went to the NBA, leaving Calipari looking for new job? How does he get so much talent? Smooth talker or pays players?
2/23/2006 10:57:05 PM
WHY THE FUCK WOULD HERB GET FIRED
2/23/2006 11:06:24 PM
^^ask UMassthey dont have their 1996 banners anymore, what do you think?
2/23/2006 11:09:03 PM
^8 You forgot Adolph Rupp. But seriously, why would ANY of those coaches want to come here knowing they have to sweep UNC/Duke every year and go to the Final Four. Our fans have gave Herb so much hell I doubt we seriously could get a high-profile coach.
2/24/2006 12:08:44 AM
packboozie...that happens at every school. In Dean Smith's 4th year he came home from a road loss, stepped off the bus, and found a dummy hanging in the tree by a noose (with a large nose on it, which was how he knew it was him).....twice!He won the ACC Championship the next year, his 5th year. Mike Kryzyewski was on the hot seat during his 3rd year at Duke...many people wanted him fired. He won an ACC Championship and reached the NCAA Championship game his 6th year. This "Poor old Herb" attitude has got to go. The man is a millionaire now and in his...what...11th year?...with nothing but a sweet 16 to show for it (And I realize where he started from)...just saying. Herb is getting no different treatment from anyone else in ACC history with the same credentials That's the nature of the job around here. Herb's credentials are just about equal to that of Dave Odom (Only Odom had his team #1 in the nation a few times...and an Elite 8). Dave Odom was fired....sorry, not given an extension becuase no one wanted him any more..... Again, I do think Herb is a better coach than Odom, and I don't want him fired, but you have got to realize it's not just terrible NC State fans. That's how Tobacco Road has always been [Edited on February 24, 2006 at 7:41 AM. Reason : ]

i like how you guys talk about the Miami and VT games....both winsyou 50 year olds just can't accept a win as a win, can you?
2/24/2006 8:54:51 AM
we should just let Chuckie Tamato coach both teams. We wont be as good, but our fans wont notice b/c theyll remember that he got us that jumbotron by god!
2/24/2006 10:31:13 AM
Chancellor Fox and Lee Fowler got us that jumbotron
2/24/2006 10:32:05 AM
what if herb said he was "building champions", and had everybody come watch his team get off the bus for every game?
2/24/2006 10:48:32 AM
well, Costner was a McDonald's All-American, so thats progressand now the women's team has one this year
2/24/2006 10:49:49 AM
I'd like to if basketball was my sport and I knew a lot more about it.
