"i'm honestly surprised to see so many agnostic here. with that said, i'm agnostic..."i think it has something to do with being around educated people, and being in an area w/ lots of different peoples coming together.you can see lots of different religions, but the same justifications for their religion as yours (faith based)... seeing that its easy to switch to a kind of spirituality belief with alot of specific church dogmas/intolerance of monothiests & just go the agnostic route w/ a general respect for spirituality.

Thanks hempster for providing some clarity in the thread. To me the most important part of any religion is the tolerance of others and their respective idealogies (very buddist). Kbbrown3, is this for a class or personal intrest? What is your motivation for gathering this info?

I was raised Christian in an Assembly of God church. I was something of a Jesus freak when I was growing up.Now I'm something more of an Agnostic though I've thought about converting to Catholicism.
2/22/2006 11:00:03 PM
Brought up as a Presbyterian, though I'm not really affiliated with any one Christian subset at present.
2/22/2006 11:02:19 PM
do orthodox consider catholics the first protestants?
2/22/2006 11:02:34 PM
Been a Seventh-Day Adventist - Christian, but right now nondenominational Christian with Sabbath observation.Oh and if you have been a TWW member for a significant amount of time you would definitely not be surprised there are that many agnostics and atheists.[Edited on February 22, 2006 at 11:07 PM. I've been considering "converting" to Pythagoreanism or Neo-Pythagoreanism. The theory of the Apeiron is interesting to me. Plus, ever since before I was a foxhole Atheist, (around 13 years old,) I've thought of math as being universal, and therefore somehow "divine".....I will never believe in an anthropocentric god or practice an anthropocentric religion. I've thought that ever since before I quit Presbyterianism--in fact, that was one of my main reasons why I decided to quit. It's just always seemed kind of obvious to me….[Edited on February 23, 2006 at 12:06 AM. Reason : a² + b² = c² ]

Props to hempster, I owe you a beer.It looks like Christians and Agnostics are tied. And this is just a personal/socio-eske interest thing.Everyone is entitiled to their own beliefs, just as each person is entitled to their own way of life.Does anyone agree with that statement?
2/23/2006 1:58:04 AM
^ Yes, as long as your beliefs do no adversly affect other beings.

^^That's interesting. I didn't know about ya'll........----------------------------------------------Clarification:Are Mormons Christians?I've heard that many Christians don't consider Mormonism to be a form of Christianity, but frankly, I don't think that they should get to decide.Do most Mormons consider Mormonism to be a form of Christianity? I mean, Mormonism is about Christ, right?
2/23/2006 11:07:08 AM
Christian, non-denomhoweverI've studied several other religions (Jainism, Bhuddism, Daoism, etc...) and i believe that all religions are based upon a single fundamental truth, with a fundamental Higher Power (God or whatever)I try to live by the christian philosophy, but i also incorporate the ideals of several other religions into my daily interaction with the worldbasically, i take the Hindu view of respecting all religions as being fundamentally sound and true (with the exception of things like Scientology)

^^ There is alot of truth to that..We do consider ourselves to be christian though for many reasons... First... Christ is our Savior, and the only way to our salvation. That is the biggest thing that makes someone christian. Second... the Book of Mormon has a subtitle... "Another Testament of Jesus Christ" ... which is, as stated by ^^ a record of Christ's visitation to the inhabitants of the American Continent ... exactly where that spans is not known, but the record was found in upstate New York.... But back to the question... so this second book testifies and witnesses of Christ just as the Bible does... So to us, having a second book does not keep us from being Christian...Now for the political side of things... The "Christian Coalition" or whatever it is will not allow us to be a part of their frat because we have this second book... if we denounce it, then we get it... which is retarded.... so officially we arent recognized but for anyone who knows anything about our beliefs, Mormons Are Christian.

^That's what I'll go with.I reject the notion that a religion gets to choose who "belongs".For example, if you consider yourself Catholic, then you're Catholic, regardless if you've been "excommunicated" or kicked out or whatever. One's religious identity should be a personal choice, not dictated by an authority.
