we have to have at least one more, I would prefer 12-16 though...
3/1/2006 3:11:21 PM
weak ass bitches...
3/2/2006 6:53:00 PM
i did the math and if you made k's 2 it pretty much breaks even
3/2/2006 10:55:48 PM
by break even you mean....
3/2/2006 11:46:03 PM
sorry with the current settings the way they are and K's being the only variable to change, the actual equilibrium value for K's is actually 1.93 per K so that the hitter's values should be proportional to pitchers' values in points[Edited on March 2, 2006 at 11:48 PM. Reason : im a math and finance guy ][Edited on March 2, 2006 at 11:51 PM. Reason : ive evened point values for many leagues, you can ask a few people on here]
3/2/2006 11:48:09 PM
also, and maybe im nitcpicking here, but the (-1) for a K by a batter seems a little high. The majjaority of the time, a strikeout is no worse for a team than any other kind of out. Only when trying to advance runners or in a sac fly situation is a K more costly than a groundout or flyout. (-.5) seems more in line, but I'd like to see what the others think.
3/3/2006 12:03:14 AM
actually the -1 for a batter K is proportional to the other statsthe reason sac fly's and sac bunts get 1 is they dont count as a plate appearance in the HITTERS' stats
3/3/2006 12:06:26 AM
yup, and like you said ^^, K's are the "worst" type of out, no chance of advancing a runner...and I wouldnt totally base the scoring system on making pitchers and batters from last year "even out" because maybe pitchers were down last year, or hitters were up, or vice versa. However I am open to suggestions, but like i said before I base it more on making things line up to their equivalent "worth" in real baseball.
3/3/2006 12:19:15 AM
but by the stat projections, you will underrate pitchers every year then at current settingstrust my knowledgesee my yahoo fantasy profile for referencei am xkaliber39[Edited on March 3, 2006 at 12:27 AM. Reason : .]
3/3/2006 12:24:20 AM
IMO, pitchers should not be worth as much as hitters overall since choosing pitchers to start is much more affective than hitters. A good hitter will have his slumps but if you leave him in his stats will even out to how good a player he actually is. On the other hand, if a good pitcher is going against another good pitcher on a heavy hitting team you sit him, avoiding the loss. therefore you have a much better chance of maximizing the value of your available innings vs your position starts for hitters.
3/3/2006 12:31:52 AM
hitters play every daysome pitchers have 4-5 chances a month for pointsalso if you using the strategy above is your personal bias that good hitting superceeds good pitching, which is entirely false[Edited on March 3, 2006 at 12:34 AM. Reason : .]
3/3/2006 12:33:01 AM
You cant start every pitcher you have every start because of the limited innings so the selection process is potentially makes pitchers values higher for your team even though their overall (total season) fantasy points are not as high as the hitters[Edited on March 3, 2006 at 12:38 AM. Reason : zgb]
3/3/2006 12:37:03 AM
what? that is irrelevant to the pointthey are still undervalued and the limited innings undervalues them even more[Edited on March 3, 2006 at 12:40 AM. Reason : .]
3/3/2006 12:39:00 AM
Maybe I am not being clear...I am saying that with a person being selective in what pitchers he starts, you are much more likely to maximize the value of your available innings. However, a good hitter is usually left in the lineup no matter what unless he gets hurt so his good stretches are mixed in with his slumps so you are not going to be as close to the maximum value of the positions starts available. So, to keep pitching from dominating the overall teams scores and the standings the overall fantasy points for individuals pitchers should be a little less than for hitters since the losses you avoid will not count towards your team score even though they count against the players total fantasy points for the season.
3/3/2006 12:50:52 AM
I dont want to play because the scoring system is boring to me.I dont play fantasy baseball or basketball unless its rotissirie.
3/3/2006 12:56:27 AM
you are saying since you can pick and choose, it is overvalued
3/3/2006 1:06:40 AM
Basically. It is easier to avoid negative points for pitchers than for hitters so pitchers should have a little less total fantasy point potential to even it out a bit. Thats all.
3/3/2006 1:09:34 AM
what he is saying is that unless you have no idea what you are doing, you will for the most part only start pitchers in favorable situations... so you dont get a lot of their losses, only the positive point situations (of course it is all unpredictable, you never know what will actually happen, but if you have an average pitcher you probably wont start him against Pedro, or Prior etc)... it would be like only starting hitters when they go 4 for 4 with no strikeouts...
3/3/2006 1:09:35 AM
^Exactly
3/3/2006 1:11:37 AM
for example, say you have two pitchers on your team:Pitcher 118 wins12 lossesPitcher 212 wins12 lossesand you happen to pick when to start them amazingly well (only start them when they win, only sit them when they lose) and your actual FANTASY stats for those two pitchers combined is:30 wins0 lossesso that would be the equivalent of having 1 starting pitcher who goes 30-0... and I KNOW that would be the highest scoring player in the league...

^^^ I agree with what they are saying. I do the same thing all the time with my average guys and always check out who they are starting against in order to maximize their value and limit their negative impact. Usually it works well when I look at their stats at the end of the season too.I do this with some hitters too like Rockie players such as Holliday and Sullivan, and the occasional Red or D-back that hits much better at home. But overall there are not nearly as many hitters that this strategy can be applied too obviously...Oh yeah and I never start a pitcher at Coors, but that goes without saying [Edited on March 3, 2006 at 12:55 PM. 3/3/2006 12:53:44 PM
so... you in?
3/3/2006 2:56:13 PM
^ I started Nomo at Coors back whenever he got his no hitterIt was a fluke, but its my greatest fantasy accomplishment of all time
3/3/2006 2:59:24 PM
haha, yea, thats pretty damn sweet...
3/3/2006 3:03:41 PM
Jaybee1200 - I would get in, but I live in Kansas. If you guys are going to do an online draft, which it doesn't sound like, then I'd be down. I love playing in leagues where people actually give a damn.[Edited on March 3, 2006 at 3:10 PM. Reason : s]
3/3/2006 3:09:50 PM
damn... got anyone here that could draft for you?...
3/3/2006 5:06:04 PM
^ I don't know any of you guys in the league, but assuming one of you will be willing to make logical picks for me, I'll play with whatever team I get. A big part of fantasy baseball, atleast in my experience, is picking up those darkhorse players, etc that can make a big difference like Peralta, Duke, Lowery, etc. Hell my team in one league last year my first three picks were Beltran, Rolen, Huff and I still managed to win somehow. Anyway if you want to pick my team, I'm down. I'll send you the money if you send me your address...
3/3/2006 5:27:42 PM
I wouldnt want to do that... gets too tricky with sleepers and shit and when to pick someone etc.
3/3/2006 5:34:13 PM
^ Okay cool no big deal. How are you tracking scoring in the league?
3/3/2006 5:42:42 PM
yahoo
3/3/2006 5:56:19 PM
seems to me the best way to handle this situation would just be have him on a text messaging link while we draft where we could relay to him who's been picked. As long as there wasnt a big delay
3/3/2006 8:44:06 PM
hmmm, could work... if someone was willing to do that haha, maybe they could get a few extra seconds for their picks...[Edited on March 4, 2006 at 12:11 AM. Reason : d]
3/4/2006 12:09:24 AM
definitely could work. i could bring the laptop
3/4/2006 12:15:48 AM
fine with me if you are willing to do it... like I said, we could give you a few extra seconds for each of your picswell, that gives us 10, which is enough for a league... would like to get more though...Jaybee1200steviewonderwlb420TurnipBoobsR_gr8SaddamizerRedWolfSchndlrsFistAlanM2388rflongnow we need to start thinking about a date/time/place for the draft
3/4/2006 12:35:26 AM
I would participate in this, but I'm really only strong AL-knowledge wise. And the $50 entry fee is high, because I'm poor. I don't see what the point of giving a winner in a baseball league 75% is, though.
3/4/2006 1:39:50 AM
we are doing $20... and what about 75% is wrong?
3/4/2006 2:07:27 AM
Baseball Challenge on ESPN is a great free points based league to base values off of, or if you want the extra practice. I might start a TWW league if anyone is up for it.
3/4/2006 3:10:37 PM
always bet on boobs
3/4/2006 3:12:53 PM
where we at?
3/6/2006 12:06:22 PM
When is the draft?
3/6/2006 3:42:35 PM
sorry, was out of town for a few days...still at 10 people... and need to figure when and where. I am assuming a Sat or Sun here in the next two-three weeks... any particular days better for everyone?
3/6/2006 5:35:00 PM
this weekend is really bad for me
3/6/2006 5:49:43 PM
me too... but after this weekend I am in good shape
3/6/2006 6:06:34 PM
^ ditto - not a good weekend for me either. The following weekends should work well.
3/6/2006 6:07:02 PM
Ok, what about Saturday the 25th?
3/7/2006 12:25:32 AM
bad for me, sorry. I will either have to work at, or attend the hockey game that night. If I dont have to work, I will be available until 6
