Went to Aqua Escape. Their tanks still looked horrid, however better than before. Also, the tanks they did have were mostly empty anyway. Not worth the trip out there.

I don't know that the tanks look that bad considering all the work they have done on the place. It is a work in progress that is for sure! Maybe it is just me, but it is cool to just talk to Chris cause he really knows his shit and he has helped me a lot setting up my system. You guys should sign up for the shipment notifications on the site cause they are getting a big shipment of marine fish next week. http://www.aqua-escape.com

...it took him like 15 minutes to even approach us and ask if we needed anything. We were the only people in the store.
2/19/2006 12:21:06 AM
the 55 display tank looked incredible! tell chris I'd definitely like to get my tank there, and hopefully support him getting the store back in shape. I only saw 2 big aptasia things, whereas last time i saw about 50 or more, so I am impressed and want to check back in frequently to see how things are moving along. (tell him he does need to greet his guests though )still can't get it until the middle of march, which is coming soon!!*NEW QUESTION* anyone ever build their own filter?
2/19/2006 8:47:56 AM
Good feedback. I will pass this stuff along. He is a good guy and trying really hard to make the business work.
2/19/2006 9:03:00 AM
^And you mentioned them getting a fish shipment. There didn't appear to be much of anything besides personal tank setups when we went, so that's good.
2/19/2006 10:25:26 AM
does chris need any part time help?I used to work at a petstore, and my favorite part was taking care of the fish tanks, and I also know a lot about establishing customer relationships
2/19/2006 11:39:17 AM
^You don't have time for a part-time job! Goober.
2/19/2006 12:11:47 PM
I do, I have plenty of time, and plenty of need
2/19/2006 12:52:23 PM
Whoa brown algae out the wazoo!
2/19/2006 6:05:56 PM
still interested in WHERE TO BUY THINGS and BUILDING FILTERS
2/19/2006 7:32:45 PM
That's it? Nobody goes anywhere else?

2/20/2006 7:28:48 PM
i've only seen it barely mentioned, but you should definitely check out fish pros, its right by jones franklin off of hillsborough, it might be pricey, but they know what they're doing over there
2/20/2006 8:20:15 PM
that's where I've been shopping, I'm looking for new and exciting!
2/20/2006 8:43:55 PM
^^I checked them out, they are very nice and knowledgeable, but everything is extremely overpriced. I'd get my RO water there and that's about it.
2/20/2006 9:03:33 PM
I have never been to fish pros, I have heard they do not have very much saltwater stuff.
2/20/2006 9:58:03 PM
Fish World (near Yonker's road)Fish Pros (off Hillsborough near the Hillsb/Western fork)orIssac's Aquatica if I need something really cool.
2/21/2006 9:17:54 AM
Anyone else been to Isaac's? Know anything else about it? We've been everywhere else and are enjoying comparing stores.
2/21/2006 8:34:48 PM
Where is Isacs? sw of fw? thanks The best Fw store I have found is Aquarium Outfitters in Wake Forest...Deff worth the 20 min drive there[Edited on February 21, 2006 at 8:46 PM. Reason : oops missed the link. Also there is a store in Garner that has some oddball things every so often]
2/21/2006 8:43:56 PM
And if everyone could keep their eyes out for any really large FW fish (25-30) that would not end up as food for my catfish, gimme a shout. Thanks Oh and no $400 Arowanas.
2/21/2006 8:51:58 PM
^Could one of those ugly chiclids? Or an oscar or whatever?
2/22/2006 9:23:27 AM

It ate my 11" albino tiger oscar 2 months ago, Im thinking Peacock bass or the like.
2/22/2006 1:00:39 PM
^Or you could eat it as payback.
2/22/2006 2:11:02 PM
mmm, fried catfish.
2/22/2006 3:01:00 PM
Might come down to that. Just seems a bit boring with one fish in a large tank. Gonna make the rounds this weekend to all the stores and see what I can find.
2/22/2006 4:38:04 PM
you stop buying so much fish stuff. Evertime I come over i hear that you are selling x fish thing or buying x fish thing. and come get your memory card yourself!!!

^Got my live sand there for a great price, but it's kind of hit or miss.
2/23/2006 9:57:58 PM
Does Carolina Pet supply carry freshwater fish?
2/23/2006 10:05:05 PM
2/23/2006 10:09:09 PM
Yes, Carolina Pet Supply carries fw fish. Koi would need a chiller $$$$ to be kept in an indoor aquarium. I keep my house pretty warm in the summer. Koi are cold water fishes.60-65 deg optimum I believe.
2/24/2006 7:11:54 AM
and....pet pad for the win! best price on my whole set-up!I ♥ you guys!
2/24/2006 3:18:09 PM
Aqua Escape finally got the big fish order they have been waiting for. They are really well stocked now and I think the prices are really good.
2/25/2006 10:46:50 PM
i got the email, can't wait to see how their stock looks
2/26/2006 11:03:24 AM
^^^^people keep koi in outside ponds in the summer. I would imagine the water outside is pretty warm in the summer.[Edited on February 26, 2006 at 1:03 PM. Reason : .]

Visited the Wilmington Petco this weekend and I don't believe I've ever seen worse saltwater fish conditions (didn't really look at the fw fish). The tanks themselves appeared clear and algae free - but there were differing levels of dead and decaying fish in every tank. I was utterly shocked. Their display tank had a dead foxface whose eyes had already decayed, then two skeletal bodies next to him. Every tank had at least one floater. It was crazy, I don't see how the other fish were living in water that fucked up. Anyone else seen a Petco?
2/27/2006 9:14:39 AM
Petco Nobody at petco knows anything about saltwater, they really don't know much about fish at all (fresh or marine). Fresh water fish are so easy to keep, I guess corporate thought marine fish was the same. I went to the petco in Rockville, MD to buy dog food and looked at their tanks and was disgusted. The Tangs had HLLE and the damsels had marine ich. Fish were missing eyes/fins (rot), some dead rotting in the tank. I told the guy that they shouldn't even have Marine fish:1. You don't know what you are doing.2. The people that come here to buy fish don't know what they are doing.[Edited on February 27, 2006 at 10:40 AM. Reason : .]
2/27/2006 10:39:14 AM
^Figures. I really ought to have bitched them out for the fish and terrified chinchilla, but I guess I was in a passive mood.
2/27/2006 11:58:59 AM
I have never been to the one in Wilmington but have been the Petco at Southpoint mall and there are always dead fish in the tank. Usually a lot of dead fish. They must be killing at least twice as many fish as they sell. Then i see people buying fish there and it blows my mind. I feel like telling them to go to a local fish store.
