we grew eggplant before from seed. I know we started it after april 15th and we still got a good couple of bursts out of the plants. They were japanese eggplant though...the longer (less fat) ones. My parents are pretty avid veggie growers so we usually ahve a lot. Most we don't start til after the last frost and they still give us lots of growth til mid-sept. btw that is probably the most relaxing hobby i know of...keeps me real calm and its fun to see them get bigger everyday.[Edited on March 7, 2006 at 12:04 AM. Thank you all. This weekend is supposed to be in the 70-80's here so I will be prepping the main garden plot and install the black plasticfor those who don't know: in the northern areas you can help to extend the growing season by prepping your soil and covering the area with black plastic for a period of 2-4 weeks (depending on the soil's starting temp) This will help warm the soil up, and secondly the heat generated will kill any weeds and seeds remaining in the soil, thus giving you a sterile soil. Just be careful not to cover the whole area, as you will kill any earthworms in the area.

well folks the red/yellow onions, garlic, brocoli, zuchini, yellow squash, and cucumbers are in the ground. Will have updated pictures tommorrow. Also today the wife and I redid the entire front yard. Will post comparison pictures from last year to show the difference tommorrow. we made a side garden centered with a pussywillow, flanked by a pink and a purple hydrangea, with petunias and dianuthis.the front garden, one side is packed with pansies, the other side has a varieth of flowering bushes. The mailbox has morning glories in the middle to climb the mailbox, surrounded by geraniums. The seedlings are coming along well, and when the flowers are big enough to transplant they will go in the front. Will take pics tommorrow and post them then.Started today @ 730am, and stopped at 6:45pm

I want a garden! I have a lot of potted plants, but I was looking to expand. Which vegetables are good for beginners? Is it too late to plant watermelon (I've always wanted to grow my own watermelon)? Also, this is kind of unrelated, but I have some orchids I want to propagate, and haven't been able to find anything useful on the internet so far. Any suggestions?
