i just want my working environment not to be uncomfortable.

im not eavesdropping on any conversations, this is directly to me.
1. one of these chicks has bible verses all over her cube and i dont feel its appropriate
2. i dont want to hear jebus this and jebus that every time a copier or something messes up
3. the lack of attention to duties as previously discussed.

im not trying to censor any christians, they arent trying to convert me that i can discern, i just want them to do their jobs without taking the lords name in vain avery five minutes.

religion is just one of those touchy subjects and it's best left at church and/or the person's home. I don't really have a problem with it, but I don't think the office is the place for it. I wouldn't complain or be pissed, but I know that some people are very sensitive about that shit. and no, it's not appropriate to have bible verses all over your cube or office walls. whether you think so or not, that is just another way of forcing your beliefs on other people. leave that shit at home.

first of all, you CAN pray in schools. it just has to be student led, and the schools aren't supposed to force it on you. that's because schools are run by the government, which isn't allowed to sponsor religion. your place of business is a private corporation and, therefore, the company sets its own policies. Was this sort of thing not made clear in like, 3rd grade?

that said, I don't care what people talk about at the office. i'm not very easily offended. I might make fun of them, but it doesn't bother me. and our company's so religious that there's a prayer meeting every morning in one of the meeting rooms (not run by the company itself, though), and there are ALOT of jesus fish eating darwin fish stickers and whatnot in the parking lot.

I said that it doesn't bother ME, but why the fuck do you need to advertise your religion to everyone in your office? reading a bible at lunch is NOT the same thing as having verses plastered all over your cube for EVERYONE to see. if you can't see the difference than you're a fucking dumbass.

would it be ok to plaster a whole bunch of anti-religious propaganda all over your cube? of course not because that would without a doubt offend a bunch of people. If you want to be religious, then you have every right to be that way. but I don't see why you need to advertise it and throw it in other people's faces if they're not doing it to you.

DG makes a good point...private company, rules are different and you can't make a comparison to public agencies or organizations.

That said, anyone who has issues with someone putting Bible verses on their cube walls must have some issues themselves. Did your pastor beat you as a child? Were you the priest's "special" alter boy? Those things are horrible and then maybe this would make sense. But, barring those things, why the angst with religion? How about you grow some balls and get over it, seriously...

I encountered this issue at work before. The secretary there would listen to some sort of christian talk show all day long and talk about it on the phone with her friends and stuff. It got really really annoying after a while.

^^^that's not the point. what if you're a different religion? what if you don't believe in religion at all. what if you just don't like seeing all that shit on someone's cube? I'm not saying that I personally have a problem with it, but some people do and that's their right. it's a fucking work environment. you can do whatever you want on your own time, but when you have to co-exist with a bunch of different races, religions, sexes, ect, then you should respect others wishes and not impose your beliefs on others who may not share your enthusiasm for religion. same goes for politcal affiliation.

Bikini models don't look professional - inspirational verses, whether Biblical or like all those success posters, are just fine.

If they're taking God's name in vain you could confront them by saying something like you're uncomfortable with them doing so, since Christians aren't supposed to do that. You wouldn't be saying anything offensive and they wouldn't know outright that there is a coworker they feel the need to convert. If they're really true to God's Word then they should seriously consider what you say about that.

In the end, just praising God for things going well in the workplace isn't directed offensively toward you. It's kind of their way of exclaiming "Yes!" or "Fuck yeah!" or whatever, just hopefully they're actually thanking God rather than using it as an expression. I'm a Christian but wouldn't get offended if I worked with people of other faith that chose to express themselves with it. If you actually did start saying stuff against what they say, you would be doing so specifically to provoke/mock them, which is the complete oppposite of what you should accomplish in the workplace.

It's the same thing as a child being able to pray in school but the school not being able to lead the prayer. There is nothing that will hurt a work environment that comes from someone posting bible verses and talking about god. Now, if your boss was, for instance, making everyone pray or something then yeah, that'd be illegal.

^be that as it may, you're still going to have people be offended by certain things dealing with religion. c'mon people, everyone knows religion and politics are very touchy subjects to certain people. if you want to pray, cool. if you want to bless your food before you eat, go right ahead. but when you go out of your way to advertise all your religious beliefs and make a point of everyone else being able to see it, then you're just asking for trouble.

nobody is telling anybody to ditch their beliefs, but you know damn well that it wouldn't be cool for someone to post atheist messages on their walls. just because it's YOUR belief doesn't mean that everyone else wants to know about it.

thats the problem, i dont see whats so professional about having bible verses or that footsteps thing on your wall. doesnt seem to increase productivity or decrease gossip or anything.

because you dumb fuck, anti-religious propaganda targets people for their views. Having scriptures from the bible on the walls in your cubicle is no different from me having the fucking NC State football poster on my cubicle wall. I enjoy having it in my work environment.

I enjoy having the State poster on my wall because I like state. I went there, graduated, and enjoy our football program. It makes my cubicle feel more like home to me. I dont care if people here dont like state or root for UNC or Duke instead. They can get over it and realize its my cube.

you can completely apply the same for having scripture on your wall.

You'd have a point if I wans trying to go around and tell everyone how much better state was and that they should become state fans instead of whoever they root for now. But Im not.

well, if it doesn't bother you THAT much, then no, it's not worth it. but the fact remains that many people ARE offended by that kind of stuff. I've already pointed out that I could care less what people have on their cube walls or whatever, but there are LOTS of people who get all worked up about that kind of shit. if you can't see the difference between religiouis beliefs and supporting your college, then you're missing the whole point. Religion is probably the most touchy subject there is, so to throw it all up in people's faces is just going to cause problems.
