I think one of the better ways you're going to find out what car you want is to go out and test drive them. You've narrowed down your options, now find what you actually like.

sorry bbri'm just used to my manuals i like that when my transmission fucks up @ 150k miles it either needs clutches or sychros that makes me grin

and hell, for what it's worth, you can pick up a nice one of these for mid-to-high teens(without the supercharger or Fikse wheels, of course )

Duke:: my dad would write it off as a business expense too since we have 3 BMW's and a Denali and all our in the company's name.

if he's going for the same loophole that my dad does (the big one), i don't think anything listed in this thread would make the cut. not big enough.about the smallest thing i can think of that will make it is the X5, or the mid-size Lexus SUV (not the little one, but not that big LX-470, either)...and you won't get either of those for anywhere near $30k.oh, and that Lexus IS-250 lists at $31,750 (or $30,580 with the manual transmission that God intended)...it is, for your purposes, a newly updated, Japanese, 325i...either of which are probably the two best vehicles on the market for $30k for what you will do with them.[Edited on January 17, 2006 at 1:38 AM. haha, yeah, one of my AX-5 gears blew upin addition to the syncrosin addition to all the other stuff that died when pieces of metal went everywhere in the tranny
1/17/2006 1:44:13 AM
actually i've had 2 ax 15s both made it to 150 fine3rd & reverse was a bitch sometimes but honestly synthetic worked as a patch
1/17/2006 1:51:45 AM
yet again, just because you've had good experience with a couple doesn't make them all good. like i said before, the ax-15 is decent but not great. also, when they do fail it's typically not the synchros.

jeep - had one and loved it. if you are going for that sorority thing get a landrover discovery. sure maintenance will be pricey but come on, money's no object right? 4 runners are pretty good vehicles. my dad has had one for 3 years w/ no prob.s. might look at a highlander too. my best friend has an escape.... and wishes she'd never have bought it. but then she had a eddie bauer explorer prior so it was a step down. since you were looking at escapes, might want to consider the honda crv. honda's are about as reliable as you get plus pretty cheap to work on. and get good gas mileage.[Edited on January 17, 2006 at 9:55 AM.
