you're all screwed... not really, if you actually study and memorize the Structures and how to do the N-C AA linkage, you'll get at least a 25 maybe a 30

Anyone gonna be studying Thursday mid-day anywhere? Anyone have any old tests to study?
And I really hope the TA's know what they're doing, so far I dont think my TA has gotten 5 words in for Sylvia taking up the entire P/R time

^The thing about Sylvia's class is that you only have to memorize, you don't have to know/understand ANYTHING.

Is it too much to ask to have an actual comprehensive list of all the memorizable structures???

The structures are all in knopp's notes and she tells you where to stop. Why would you need a list?

FYI, when drawing the structures INCLUDE ALL BONDS... even O-H.... don't forget those Hydrogens either.

The -0.1 and -0.2 points add up really quick on the structures.

she actually told us we didn't have to draw bonds between O-H and N-H, but i'm gonna do it anyway to be safe

she said that if it doesnt say "draw all bonds" then you dont gotta put the bond between OH.

but if it says, then ya better do it.

Just a little side note, the review sheet she gave us in class, is not one that she writes up. It's done by someone else, so she basically doesnt go off that sheet for the test. Majority of everything she talks about in class is on the review sheet, so it's a good way to go back over things you may not remember, but don't expect that this is ONLY the things she'll put on the test.

Also, where it says to list the 4 protein analysis methods, and describe them, she's never asked that on any other exams, and she may only want you to list a few of them, not explain or describe them.

were the protein assays all the biuret and stuff, or the PAGE and stuff?

The protein assays are Biuret, BCA, dye binding (bradford), and Lowry reaction.

You need to know the pKa values of the side chains along with the general pKa values for amines, alcohols, thiols etc which can be found on page 64 in the text and in the course pack.

so, how is the test treating you guys?

BTW, i saw three tables of people studying for Sylvia's test at the library yesterday (Thursday). Seemed like every single on of them had AT LEAST 5 old tests. They also had them out around the TAs and were asking them questions.

In summary, this class is just about networking and how many old tests you can find to study with.

i apparently studied the wrong shit. roughly 50% of the test was non-review.

my contribution to this thread:

Dr. Sylvia is one of the best professors out there. She's got a very pure heart, her intentions are clean... so if she yells/makes fun/harasses you... she's doing it only for your good ;-)

Yes, she is Hott.
