unrelated story, but my civilian flight instructor is a Navy CDR (director of Enlisted AC Training down here at NASP), but he's a Tomcat RIO by trade. he was telling me about doing a low level in the Tomcat one time out over the desert at 540 kts and 500'. The pilot goes "Heh, wanna see how low we can go?"

being nice, flat desert and all, he's like "Hell yeah."

They pushed it down to 77' AGL at 540 kts.

That's fuckin' cookin', dude.

Goddamn that's low for that speed.

The best acronym, though, is FOCDPIG, sometimes written like it's pronounced, as FOC D PIG.

I don't really remember what it stands for, but I remember it being kinda contrived just so Marines could have FOC D PIG as a recognized acronym. I've heard a couple others like that, too, but that's the best one.

I tried to come up with a complete sentence of all acronyms, that's a tough one. But I do have some of the previous missing information.

WSO = Weapons Systems Officer, He's the guy that actually blows stuff up, not the pilot. (except for planes that only have a pilot, of course)

ECMO = Electronic Countermeasures Officer, He's the guy that keeps the plane from getting shot down by jamming enemy radar and such.

was curious

FOCDPIG
Regardless of the type of defense employed by the tactical commander, the seven basic employment principles for reinforcing obstacles are that reinforcing obstacles are

Covered by Fire. The principal purpose of integrating obstacle location with fire is to enhance the effectiveness of these fires. With rare exceptions, obstacles that are not covered by fire are little more than a nuisance to the enemy.

Observed. It is imperative that all reinforcing obstacles are observed in order to maximize the use of available indirect fires on the enemy. In addition, obstacles should be placed in order to maximize the max effective range of various direct fire weapons systems utilizing HAW-MAW-LAW.

Concealed and employed for surprise. By varying the type, design, and location of the obstacle plan, the enemy's understanding of our defensive scheme is made more difficult.

Employed in Depth. A series of simple obstacles arranged one behind the other along a probable axis of enemy advance is far more effective than one large, elaborate obstacle and forces the enemy to quickly attrite his organic engineering assets.

Protected by early warning and anti-handling devices. Incorporating these assets into reinforcing obstacles amplify detection of the enemy especially during times of little or no visibility.

Integrated with existing and other reinforcing obstacles that cannot be easily bypassed. It must support the maneuver commander's plan. Reinforcing obstacles that do not accomplish one or more of the basic purposes of obstacles are of little value. Reinforcing obstacles must be planned and employed to support the tactical plan

Non-Geometric. By breaking up the outline of the obstacles/defense, the enemy is in the engagement area before he realizes it. This puts the enemy into a dilemma and makes him show his flank or belly.

I think there should be. Have a promotions committee to judge the quality of each post and award points, and then rank based on points.

hahah no the Coast Guard is part of homeland security (formerly DOT)

but I have to admit it is kickass that you are allowed to do some of the things you do that the Regular Navy can't do

\
PS Not in military, but directly support a LCDR for aviation integration efforts on US Navy ships

I can only say but so much though

MK is Machinery Tech. sort of the same as an engineman in the Navy.

We actually are Military. We are a US armed force with the same rank and command structure as the Navy.

The biggest difference is our mission and our size. And we have the authority to arrest whereas no other branch does.

But we do get the perks of Homeland Security like SIG 40s instead of Berretta 9mms, and some fast ass boats since we fell under DHS.
