So at what point would academic considerations cause a coaching job to move down the totem poll?
1/6/2006 3:13:23 PM
osu job may be more prestigous but im sure miami could offer more money to a head coach and where is nicer to live? miami or columbus?

^^^FWIW: I'm not saying UF was a "bad move" and had the academic things not been there at ND, he wouldn't have taken Florida. I just know that in Meyer's case, it was a big deal in his decision. I remember all of the "Meyer to ND" rumors... and from what I've gathered he asked them for at least 10 academic exceptions each year (I think they give you like 3)... they said "No".. he said hello to Florida.[Edited on January 6, 2006 at 3:16 PM. ^^I doubt that. 7 home games a year in a sold out 100,000+ stadium generates alot of cash for coaches salaries, player tutors, and fiesta bowl ref bribes. [Edited on January 6, 2006 at 3:16 PM. Reason : ^]

the academic requirements are bullshit excuses, he just didnt want to go there, he said at the SEC media day that the biggest reason he wanted to go to the SEC was his competitive nature, he wanted to play the best each year in the top conference.

He didn't want to go there.... but he had a clause in his contract to bolt to Notre Dame and labeled it his "dream job"? It was the academic requirements and the fact that UF would be easier to win at, sooner. (Becuase we all know at ND and UF if you don't win quick, you're fired). UF was much better off than ND)I mean, I'm sure there's a shitload of other things, and I can't pretend to know them all... but from everything I've read, those have been the two key factorsI'm sure the SEC had quite a draw as well, but at ND he could schedule whoever the hell he wanted to[Edited on January 6, 2006 at 3:27 PM. ^^Now wait a minute, I thought Notre Dame had the toughest schedule every year? I'm a bit confused now... [Edited on January 6, 2006 at 3:27 PM. Reason : ^]

Oh I know. I was being sarcastic. Ask any Notre Dame fan. They'll tell how hard ND's schedule is.
1/6/2006 3:31:36 PM
oh ok hahah, of course USC being good again these last 5 years after 20 years of sucking ass gives them something to whine with "see, we play usc every year!"
1/6/2006 3:34:00 PM
They also play Navy every year. And the conveniantly dropped Miami from the schedule when they started losing 4 out of every 5 games to them.[Edited on January 6, 2006 at 3:37 PM. Reason : 1]

OSU would pay whatever amount of money it would take for them to secure whatever coach they wanted. when it comes to football, that school can never spend enough

ahah... I forgot this thread was about Trestman. I mean it's one thing to misspell... but to name him after one of the most well-known head coaches in the nation?
