See, there is a hole in your comparison of our assessment of Vick and our assessment of Young.

Young tonight had a 75% completion rate and 267 yards passing, those numbers are respectable for a QB even without a TD and especially since he didn't throw a pick.
But then with that good performance at QB, you get to add in his rushing of 200 yards and 3 TD's.

See, if only Vick could complete 75% of his passes for 250+ yards and 0 INT's along with an incredible rushing performance would your comparison be validated. But has Vick ever completed 75% of his passes with 40 attempts in a game?

Vince will not have the same success in the NFL, especially if he ends up on a team with a bad OL. These are inflated college stats which are the product of a great supporting cast.

With that being said. The true MVP's of this game are five guys on the Texas OL. They gave up 0 sacks and kept Vince protected all night.

Pretty big difference to me. Vince Young can pass the ball consistently well. Mike Vick cannot.

I think you guys are really missing the point here.


All year you used Vicks rushing ability AGAINST him and acted like it made him less of a QB.

You used atlanta's run defense against Vick.

You used anything you could get your hands on against Vick.


But now its okay because Vince Young had a good game against a soft USC defense that didn't look like it had practiced with pads on before.

vick had accuracy problems in college as well



infact i remember my sophomore year in hs (the year of the fsu-vatech game), one of the more popular bets was that vick would complete less than 50% of his passes. he finished 15-for-29 in that game.


one of the more common worries surrounding him during the '01 draft was his accuracy.

I never rated Vick lower as a QB because of his legs, I just said his inability to throw the ball made him completely dependent on the run.

Where as Vince Young can pass and run the ball efficiently. If Vick could pass the ball I don't care if he runs, but you can't say he's a great QB because he CAN run. There has to be a balance.

4^And if you don't think Vince Young MADE this Texas team tonight(and last year), you're absolutely out of your mind. And if Vince for some crazy reason comes back, they'll likely repeat next year.

I'm not saying Vince Young can't become a better QB in the pros than Vick.

I'm not saying that at all.


I just think it's hilarious that all the sudden a "hybrid" QB is acceptable after some of you were even willing to state that Brett Favre is still better than Mike Vick.


I mean think about it.

People under their own will... their own volition... were openly stating that Brett Favre is still better than Mike Vick.

I am a strong proponent of free speech and everything, but sometimes I think lines need to be drawn.


I'm just glad people are coming over to my side now. If you're willing to admit Vince Young is a good QB, then you're ready to accept Mike Vick too.

this was an unfair year to judge brett favre, homie. receivers who used to warm up with aaron rodgers jt o'sullivan and craig nall were all of a sudden favre's main options... oh and nobody had to bother much with their running game either, since you know, their top FOUR!!! running backs went down with injuries.

The stats are pretty fucking clear to me you idiot. Vick was hurt part of the year...but when he was in his accuracy still wasn't as good as Young's and his TD/INT ratio still sucks. Don't get me wrong, he was amazing that year. He was the only thing Tech had going for them in the title game against FSU.

And I've watched about half of Vince Young's games this year....and he's an accurate passer..and pretty fucking consistent. He has a poor game here and there...but overall he has been an extremely effective passer this year. Mike Vick can have an awesome game one week, then he can't hit the broad side of a barn the next week. He has no consistency throwing the ball.

Its pretty unfair to compare what Vince Young did for Texas to what VIck did for VT.


Texas has been a ten win team for the past decade. Young elevated them to a championship by being flat out ridiculous tonight.


Vick took a regionally strong program and took them on his back to a national championship.

Stronger arm: could be a toss up though Favre can be a "gun-slinger" at times
Better accuracy: FAVRE(by a landslide)
Mobility: Vick (of course)
Durability: FAVRE(by a landslide)

It's hard to compare 2 QB's because you have to consider the talent level around them.
Hopefully Favre will come back next year and everyone will be back healthy for both teams so it'll be a fairer comparison.

And I don't expect Matt Leinhart will be a great QB at the next level, I think he is the product of a good team as well. The best player to come from Texas will be that LT or one of their defenders, and the best player to come from USC will be Bush or White.

that was against Ohio State....hes certainly just average against a good defense...20 rushes is a hell of a lot when your coverage breaks down, still decent numbers but no where as good as everyone makes him out to be against terrible defenses like USC's
