Alright hold on one minute.I love the Panthers, but facts are facts.Jake Delhomme played poorly this season. We won a lot of games in spite of that guy this year. Our offense has been carried by one man (Stephonne Smith). He was very good last year, but last year is last year. And Eli isn't nearly as good as a lot of people think here, but he definitely deserved a spot over Delhomme because he is clutch as a little nutsac in the 4th quarter.Lucas was deserving, he def. got overlooked.

Those stats don't look so great but Eli really got it done in a lot of close games.Plaxico pulled his normal disappearing act.I'm telling you guys, you have to subtract Steve Smith's 80 yard TD's from Delhomme's production. We could have put Chris Weinke out there and still probably gone .500 Stephonne Smith completely dominated the NFL this year.

I agree, Steve Smith has totally made Jake's Pro Bowl pick possible. But what QB can do it alone? Take Tiki and Burress away from the Giants and Eli would be not be able to do anything. If you take Harrison away from the colts do you think Peyton would be as dominate? It is working with what you have to work with. Jake knows who he can count on. Jake is just lucky that Smith (even with every defence knowing he is the first option every time out) is good enough to get open. Pro Bowl picks are not based on what if possiblilies. They are based on what the player did. What jake has done is help win 10 games and place the panthers on top of the NFC south.

Blah blah blah, hold Steve Smith's YACs against Delhomme, ignore the fact the Panthers have no #2 receiver. Does Peyton not deserve it because he has Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison, Dallas Clark? I think the year Delhomme and Steve Smith have had is pretty impressive, considering they have accomplished that with the D keying on Smith and Colbert not stepping up.Selective weighting if I have ever seen it. You keeping changing your definitions of success, coming up with convoluted arguments in a desparate attempt to hype up your favorite players...

I dont even like Eli, I dont give a shit whether he makes it or not.But Delhomme wasn't very good this year. You guys really have some serious difficulty evaluating situations.

I am not suggesting Jake is up the with the likes of Peyton and Brady. All I am saying is that Jake earned his spot over Eli Manning. Everyone knows the QB's in the AFC are leaps and bound better than those in the NFC. But you can't name another QB in the NFC the should have gotten the spot over Jake.
12/22/2005 10:54:51 AM
Smith may obviously be the reason delhomme is pro-bowl bound.but you have to account for the fact that he had to throw the passes to where smith could catch them. And when has smith ever been single covered?
12/22/2005 11:08:33 AM
I started Eli instead of Jake in fantasy football - served me well.
12/22/2005 11:09:14 AM
I'm not saying Jake didn't throw the ball to Stevonne Smith.I'm just saying that Stevonne is the one that turned 5 yard out routes into 80 yard TDs by being the fastest human being ever.I still can't imagine what he and Chad Johnson were like on the same team in junior college.
12/22/2005 11:21:31 AM
He still delivered the ball to one double or triple-covered receiver on time and in stride enough to break those long runs. If Vick could do that, he would be the most dangerous QB in the NFL.Stevonne? Let me guess, you are a Jim Rome fan, too.
12/22/2005 11:39:02 AM
Well of course I like Rome he gives a good show. But Stevonne is his name.^ and most of those plays came off underneath routes against man coverage that Stevonne turned upfield OR on screen passes that Stevonne took to the house. It wasn't always Jake throwing 15 yard slants on the money that led to the TD.Stevonne was breaking and eluding tackles. Jake just rode his coattails.Vick is inaccurate, Vick is inaccurate. No one says McNabb is a shitty QB and he's been just as inaccurate as Vick for the duration of his career.[Edited on December 22, 2005 at 11:46 AM. Reason : a]

yeah, of course Delhomme's #'s are much better thanks to Smith. He said it himself in the N&O:

I've watched some of the games that Falcons played this year, and in a handful Vick's looked solid, but in several of their losses he's looked like crap, like a high-schooler. Just because he has a few games where he plays like a pro-bowler, they don't make up for the games where he didn't.And no I don't think Jake should have made it looking at his performance this year, but I think he should have made it looking at his competition. I think Vick is a tremendous athlete, but given he missed a couple of games/quarters with injuries here and there, and given his ineptitude as passing the ball, how can you pick him as a pro-bowl QB?I agree Steve Smith has been a MAJOR reason why Jake has had a lot of success, but that shouldn't matter. Take away most of the QB's in the NFL's leading reciever and they're going to struggle. Take away Crumpler from Atlanta, do you really think Vick would have nearly the success/yards/TD's he has? Don't think so.And you have to remember, at the beginning of the year the Panther's D wasn't playing well, with Lucas and Gamble going in and out with injuries. Atlanta's pass D has been solid, but their run D is what's killing them. But you can't say Vick had no support around him. He had a pro-bowl RB, he had one of the best TE's in the NFC and a pro bowler, he had a decent defense(Brooking, Coleman, Hall). I mean 3 Pro-Bowlers from the defensive side of the ball for Atlanta, while only 1 for Carolina.Vick is a better athlete than Jake. But did he have a better year at QB? Hell no.
