Rallydurham,You're right, I missed the 97 year, but that doesn't change the fact that Laettner is considered by most to be an NBA bust, but hey i'd take his salary. And i didn't hear a counter to K having rediculous years 88-94 churning out 3 guys who lasted longer than 2 seasons none of whom even came clsoe to living up to expectations. Honestly, Duhon, who was solid but not great, will have a better pro career than the three of them combined IMO. Bottom line, K doesn't churn out the talent int he NBA with he talent he gets, and the few that have post 98 didn't stay long enough for K's methods to sink in, minus Duhon.
12/18/2005 10:44:13 PM
bottom line is that Coach K never recruited NBA talent until the late 90s.You cant make NBA players out of college athletes. It's a different league.Christian Laettner is a better college player than Rasheed Wallace, but he's never gonna be better in the pros than Rasheed. IT doesnt matter if you're coached by K, Herb, or whoever
12/18/2005 10:46:49 PM
Just off the top of my head, I think that if Antonio Lang, Thomas Hill, Roshawn Mcleod (I realize he was drafted), Cherokee parks (same as Mcleod) would have been coached by different coaches, i.e. Pitino, Smith, Calhoun, they would have had decent NBA careers and I think they were "NBA talent".
12/18/2005 11:15:13 PM
^shut the fuck up, thats a retarded statement.
12/18/2005 11:20:02 PM
Nice post wolfAApack, complete class... I should definently not express my opinion...
12/18/2005 11:38:47 PM
If your opinions are that retarded, then no, you should not express your opinions.
12/18/2005 11:48:48 PM
Thanks for the tip, I can learn a lot from you
12/18/2005 11:54:34 PM
You learn quicklybut in all seriousness I'm just saying the the idea that coach K cant produce NBA tallent is worn out and retarded. I heard last night that there are more players from Duke in the NBA right now than any other school. They have 15, and I think the next closest is UNC with 13, and they're making a combined 60 some million a year.
12/19/2005 12:00:02 AM
The players I listed that I said I thought had NBA potential but never made it were pre 98, as I made perfectly clear in previous posts in a response to another poster. In response to your statistic, how many of those guys in the NBA have been around before 99? That alone was my point. Coach K has been at Duke since 1981? and has only churned out year in year out NBA talent since 99 but has been successful at the NCAA level since 1986ish. I think most ACC basketball fans are curious as to this.
12/19/2005 12:09:22 AM
Lang did play in the pros.Thomas Hill was too small and not athletic.Cherokee Parks had liek a 4 year $28 million dollar deal.He was a stiff, that had nothing to do with Coach KMcLeod only had 2 years with Coach K and he was a late first roudn pick^Because he was winning with talent like Mike Gminski, Johny Dawkins, Tommy Amaker, Danny Ferry, Robert Brickey, Quinn Synder, Jay Bilas, Brian Davis, etcThose aren't NBA players. You think the reason Melvin isnt in the NBA is because of Herb? No. He's not an NBA player.[Edited on December 19, 2005 at 12:13 AM. Reason : a]
12/19/2005 12:10:50 AM
^^wtf are you talking about?Grant HillChristian LattenerBobby Hurley (wreck ended career)They won 2 national championships back to back. All of them played in the NBAWhat else do you want from them? They sucked balls in the mid 90's, so there was a drought of talent. Other than that there is no reason to say K doesn't produce NBA talent. Its ignorant, and it just shows you dont know shit about basketball.
12/19/2005 12:16:42 AM
^^Did the G Man ever pay for K? Yea I remember something about Parks getting a pretty good contract, although any in the NBA is good, I had no clue Lang played/drafted, I always though he was "NBA potential". I agree Melvin is not NBA material, but we never won anything (ACC champ's or sweet 16) with him either, but different people view "winning" differently.^Not that there is anyway to prove it but I would put anything on the line that says my knowledge of basketball and especially the ACC is much more extensive, but then again my days of disagreeing vehemently for the sake of disagreeing and abusing animals are over, 13 was so great.[Edited on December 19, 2005 at 12:22 AM. Oh this is an I know more than you know thread...I see.
12/19/2005 12:27:33 AM
Well you did say that I didn't know anything about basketball based off one of my opinions you thought to be inaccurate so I was just defending myself, although I guess I should have used much more profanity because that's certainly more convincing, I'll try harder next time.
12/19/2005 12:44:38 AM
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCKI never said I know more than you about basketball. I'm just saying your statements about Duke players in the NBA are stupid, because they're false. If you hate Duke and are just trash talking, then say so. Otherwise, you're retarded. OH MAN ONE FUCKING FUCK WORD AND THATS A FUCKING LOT OF FUCKING PROFANITY I'M FUCKING GOING TO FUCKING HELL, FUCK ME.

12/19/2005 12:56:22 AM
awwwww some one is angry
12/19/2005 1:06:08 AM
That was funny, seriously look what you wrote. Nah man, not gettin mad, actually entertained to be honest. Yea I don't particularly care for Duke, not because they are a powerhouse program, but for other reasons, like in the either 91 or 92 ACC tounament when I saw someone on the second row ask K if he would ease up on the profanity because of his kid's proximity and he promptly turned and told the guy F-you in front of his 4 year old and the rest of Charlotte. Or the way he treated William Avery and his mother after he declared for the draft. The irony of you calling anyone on this earth a baby after reading that same post is even more entertaining.
12/19/2005 1:07:07 AM
Nobody said you have to like coach K, but saying he doesnt produce NBA players is not the way to express that. I agree that he's an ass on the court. I love TWW, especially the posters who dont understand sarcasm or the fact that this is a place to vent your boredom.

exactly
12/19/2005 1:29:01 AM
Aight man, No where did I say coach K doesn't produce NBA talent. What I said was before 98, the success that he had 88-97 didn't correlate to enough of his players getting drafted and hanging around the NBA. If other coaches had his players, I'm saying those players would have had better NBA careers which is an opinon of mine, a retarded one, but an opinion nonetheless. Post 98 is not in my claim at all, as I said that numerous times. I can even recall an ESPN segment specifically about this in 98ish comparing UNC/Duke with similar college success but very disproportionate success in the pros. Also, how in the world am I to know the in's and out's of sarcasm if you want tell me, I mean I mentioned earlier that I have a lot to learn from you. Out......
12/19/2005 1:45:36 AM
well for startersWho seriously runs on a string of fucks. Not too much to read into there. My first few responses to you were stupid, then I started telling you why I said it in the first place.I'm just bored and looking for an argument, and I found one. It doesnt really matter what you meant. You said that Antonio Lang, Thomas Hill, Roshawn Mcleod, and Cherokee Parks would have been NBA tallent with other coaches. I told you that was stupid. I dont understand what the problem is with that. You tell me why Antonio Lang, Thomas Hill, Roshawn Mcleod, and Cherokee Parks should have had great careers and give me a valid statement, I'll give in. Until then, saying that they didnt make it in the NBA because of coach K is dumb. The coaches you named are great coaches, but not above coach K. I think most people would kill to have a coaching resume like K's with the NBA talent he had produced pre-1998, because like I say, he did it from the ground up. A coach like Dean Smith had a lot more to work with recruiting wise, so it should be no surprise that he produced more NBA players...they were equiped with the skills when they entered college. Coach K couldnt claim that untill the post 98 era which you chose to ignore. [Edited on December 19, 2005 at 2:02 AM. Reason : ]
