Thanks for all the advice, it looks like 28304 has the best apartments, except for maybe "The Enclave" at 28301. The ones in the 28304 zip code that I'm interested in are:Lake ClairVillage GateAdams LakeStone Ridge (This place looks awesome, the price initially seems high, but cable, internet, water, sewer and trash removal are all included)Hidden LakeWoodland Village.Does anybody have experience with any of those? I'm looking to shorten the list some. Also, can anybody give me an idea about the average price of utilities?

If you live in 28304 you're going to have a helluva commute to lumberton every day. Hope mills has a few apt. spots and it's closer to I95. If you like space, see if anyone's renting a house out in gray's creek

Bragg Blvd. and Murchison Rd. (near Ft. Bragg) are about the only places that I would stray from. However with the recent BRAC expansion Ft. Bragg is going to be expanding and supposedly the city and state have to clean up that area before they finish.I predict Fayetteville will be extremely attractive in the areas that are now considered the "shit hole." It's supposed to bring in over 40,000 people by 2013 to the area. From my research Fayetteville has the no. 3 housing market in the country and the no. 1 job market in the country. With the military there it is virtually recession proof besides the fact that there are currently soldiers deployed.Economic Transformation: http://www.bracrtf.com/transformation.phpCumberland County Plan: http://www.bracrtf.com/documents/11_Cumberland_County.pdfI will say that the real shit hole is Spring Lake, which is on the other side of Bragg (or Sprung Leak imo). Hopefully this expansion will really benefit Spring Lake.

they only strip clubs that i know of now are bragg blvd - close to base and other side close to MLK freeway (stay away from Carolina Square near the base) ..they used to have some downtown but those have been gone for a while now.downtown has a nice atmosphere now (specifically hay st.) during the day and at night and everyone knows that homeless people are in every downtown, so don't pay attention to people complaining about that[Edited on March 30, 2010 at 1:41 PM. lol Lumber Bridge is the smallest town in the world but there is some pretty country around there...good luck...you could really live anywhere: Fayetteville, Pinehurst/Southern Pines/Aberdeen, St. Pauls, Lumberton, Hope Mills, etc.Fayetteville would give you the most activity and younger population.
3/30/2010 3:03:57 PM
fwiw my girlfriend lives at lake clair. it's very quiet, parking never seems to be a problem, and the office staff seems to be very accomodating.
3/30/2010 9:44:14 PM
Bump for the job offer coming through.I don't really have any more specific questions, but any advice ya'll have concerning the area is welcome. Guess I need to head down that way and start visiting some apartments.
4/9/2010 3:12:05 PM
One of my buddies has lived in Adams Lake for the past 6 months. He thinks pretty highly of the place, with it being new, but the office staff kind of sucks. Didn't consider it much past that just because I work in Haymount and it would be more of a PITA than I wanted to deal with. I lived at Legacy at Cross Creek for the past two years, and other than the fact that it was pretty pricey, it was okay. Quiet, no one ever messed with my stuff, never really had to worry about my motorcycle being stolen, etc. As long as you avoid sketchy areas(Bragg Blvd., Murchison Rd, most of Spring Lake, Skibo Rd. Wal-Mart on Friday and Saturday nights, and many more), there isn't much to worry about.
4/10/2010 1:40:06 AM
Just stay in Hope Mills...and avoid the Walmarts...nothing but trash seems to inhabit the Walmarts. I swear, everytime I go home to Fayetteville/Hope Mills...I am reminded how much I love Raleigh.
4/12/2010 12:34:04 PM
Central Fayetteville > (x 1246233) Hope Mills but at least Hope Mills got the new movie theatre, etc
4/12/2010 1:27:44 PM
new movie theater is on point
4/12/2010 2:02:07 PM
The new movie theater is just one of the good things to come for Hope Mills from what I heard. I read in the paper a few months back that there is also going to be a new putt putt built somewhere...I think over by the movie theater.
4/12/2010 3:02:01 PM
fayetteville, nc - the birthplace of putt putt!

I just put a deposit down on Lake Clair apartments, let's hope I made the right decision.
4/17/2010 2:16:26 PM
that's near a good area (raeford rd. and downtown)...good choice. if you have any questions just post here or PM me[Edited on April 17, 2010 at 2:37 PM. Reason : m]
4/17/2010 2:36:54 PM
they're doing some construction across the street at an old par 3 golf course called dark branch - they'll be putting in a lot of new stores and restaurants, etc. try driving through there or walking down there fyi, right in that area of businesses at your apartment (corner of village and robeson) is a great little deli called New Deli.Good foods
4/17/2010 2:39:01 PM
What is the traffic like in that area in the morning? That's one of my biggest concerns right now; the commute from Fayetteville.
4/17/2010 3:09:29 PM
traffic isn't bad. i've been staying with my girlfriend who lives in lake clair and havent had any problems leaving for work at around 7:30am. i have a <5 minute commute though.
4/17/2010 7:01:57 PM
4/17/2010 9:35:07 PM
One of my buddies lived there for a while before he and his wife bought a house. They seemed to like it and when I went over there I never saw or heard anything sketchy. Oh and traffic aint nothing around Fayetteville, it just gets bad around the mall at christmas time
4/18/2010 10:04:06 AM
the only traffic you ever deal with is by the mall or fort bragg (because they are fairly close to each other).fayetteville is extremely spread out so you should be fine in your part of town. it's nothing like raleigh.
4/18/2010 10:53:12 AM
Fayetteville is actually going to expand quite a bit over the next several years so if you can think of an innovative business idea there now is the time. Anyway as people have said the downtown is pretty cool and they have a gallery crawl every 4th friday there. Additionally there are surprising amount of creative people there and you can find some live music. Sure the commercial / strip mall areas are awful to look at but there are some nice spots. As people have said I like Haymount area as well. Wherever you go it is what you make of it. The danger level is nowhere near where it once was. Obviously there are some bad neighborhoods but that is every city. Just take a look at the area behind Wendy's off Western in Raleigh for example.

There is a bar on the corner of Robeson Rd. and Raeford Rd called Paddy's (walking distance from my apartment!!). Anybody know if its any good or not?
4/18/2010 6:28:31 PM
that bar, is actually awesome when paddy actually is playing, beer prices are not horrible but not great, dont get sketched out with all the military guys in there tough, they actually do a really good job with keeping riff raff out, i recommend checking out the place on a thursday night (no cover, its $5 on fri and sat night) overall a great time with good friends
4/18/2010 9:36:55 PM
just some random thoughts on places to eat:check out Zorba's just around the corner on Raeford - dirt cheap breakfast special and pretty good gyros as welljust across the street, The Office has some great specials if you like microbrews - Mondays I think, used to be a smoky shithole, but the smoky part at least shouldn't be an issue anymore, never seen much from the military set theretwo breweries - Mash House is good if you want a nice dinner but the bar area on weekends can be questionable, and Huske downtown has a decent patio with huge, cheap house beers - they're like $2 one night per week, Tuesday maybeHorne's Deli downtown, if still open, is one of my favorite places to grab a sandwich, old school sandwich shop vibeBBQ - I like the Barbecue Hut, but Bruce & Mickeys is cheap and decent, between Fayetteville and Lumber Bridgeif you desire some cheap, greasy soul food, hit up Vick's before they rebuild the Robeson St. bridge through it, or Sandpiper if you want to gorge on a buffet - which always seems like a good idea at the time but I usually leave feeling pretty disgusted with myself afterwardLuigi's - really good Italian, nicer placeLock's Seafood is pretty new - never been but it's supposed to be goodjust across the street from the Harris Teeter on Raeford is Paul's Produce, which is a pretty nice stand/shop that my mom buys from all the time, and there's also a small Farmer's Market downtownto get outside, check out Arnette Park, Cape Fear River Trail, Linear Park downtown, the botanical gardens[Edited on April 18, 2010 at 11:41 PM.
