^^^^The AI had absolutely nothing do with unlocking the cheats. Compare a gunfight on Legendary difficulty on Halo and one on 00 agent in Goldeneye and the difference is obvious.^^KOTOR and Crimson Skies both appeared on the PC.

MS made their money back on just about every console b/c of the games purchased with them.
11/28/2005 9:00:06 PM
they publish some good titles. they may not "make" them, but they choose good ppl to work with.

After that point it all depends on the sony launch. If sony pulls off a brilliant ps3 launch, then they crush MS right before they're about to start breaking even on the consoles. Sounds a lot like what happened to sega with the dreamcast. Can sony do it though? Can their expensive-as-hell console be sold for a reasonable price? Will microsoft be able to undercut them enough so that it's thus-far underwhelming console will sink sony's release? I really hope neither sinks though. The only reason the xbox360 and ps3 are as powerful and good deals as they are is because neither ms or sony was decimated in the last console battle. As long as the competition stays hot, we keep getting good consoles and hopefully a nice price battle that'll get me a 300 dollar blue-ray dvd player/media center at some point.Anyways, as big of a hit as MS is taking, sony will have to take a much bigger hit if it's going to be competitive when it finally releases the ps3. sorry i'm not down with all this console history, but would an expert answer how well the ps2 launch for sony was?i mean did sony do a good job of promoting it and all that?just curious cause i wanna know what to expect as far as pushing the ps3
11/29/2005 3:54:42 PM
maybe its jsut me, but when psx was tearing up the market and dreamcast/64 were barely hanging on i dont think it was hard to make ps2 a success (especially since it was a big step in graphics/power).
11/29/2005 4:00:22 PM
dreamcast came after Playstation 1, didn't it?
11/29/2005 4:01:12 PM
yeah, but it sucked[Edited on November 29, 2005 at 4:03 PM. Reason : hell im big on owning all systems and i couldnt bring myself to buy it, controller was terrible for1]

^^dreamcast was fun...there were some really good games
11/29/2005 5:18:00 PM
^^^ yeah, that controller was weird. it was sad to see sega go though.

The sheer fact that the PS2 played DVDs at a time when the format was about to catch on helped it a big deal. The short story of the launch of the PS2 is big sales, crappy games. Except for Tekken Tag Tournament, hardly any games looked much better Dreamcast games and anti-aliasing (which lowers jagged edges) was a big issue, a problem the N64 didn't even have. No killer app, hardly any graphically impressive games, but a ton of hype and a shortage of systems. The DC was a great system, but the controller sucked ass. And poor thing was too damn easy to hack. If you had a CD burner, you could burn a copy of game and pop it right in the system with no modding whatsoever.[Edited on November 29, 2005 at 6:15 PM. Reason : .]

11/29/2005 6:14:32 PM
Dreamcast did not suck and anyone that says it does doesn't know dick about video games.
11/29/2005 6:18:51 PM
it was a great system with great games, but the controller was clugey and the it lacked dvd support and effective advertising.
11/29/2005 6:35:56 PM
I'm sick of hearing about blue-ray.Its fucking stupid... its like the next goddamned sony memory stick.
11/29/2005 6:40:47 PM
100+ GB, supported by more manufacturers than HD-DVD and by more movie studios... There's a good chance you'll have to hear more about it in the upcoming year or two.

When was the last time a Sony developed media type took hold of and then kept the American market?Right now, I'm thinking "never" but I may be missing something.

im tired of nacho riding his high horse in here, spouting off his opinion, and riding back out again as if anyone gave a shit. guess what dipshit, everyone in here discussing xboxes and whatnot is probably a gamer and has their own opinions on these systems.in my opinion, no games it had could possibly outweigh that piece of shit they called a controller. sure there were some good games, even the shittiest of systems had some good games (like every nintendo fanboy keeps spouting off about xbox), but that doesnt make it a great system. i like crazy taxi, soul calibur, virtua tenis, etc as much as the next guy, but it just wasnt worth the price they were charging (unless you ripped all the games, but not all of us are dirty pirates).i agree that the ps2 had some pretty terrible games at launch though. i played tekken tag pretty much exclusively for a while, but it still:1. looked better than dc (even if only marginally on some of the first games, it improved vastly as the system progressed)2. had a helluva lot better controller (and anyone who read this knows im not a huge fan of it either)3. had dvd support when dvd players were not common place4. was backwards compatible (i dunno was DC, i doubt it, but not like anyone owned a saturn anyway) which is insane when there are 200000 psx titles good and bad alike.to be fair the games that were good were classics, it had 4 controller ports, and it tried to get the online thing going. [Edited on November 29, 2005 at 8:59 PM. Reason : i cant begin to imagine a little kid using that controller]
11/29/2005 8:51:45 PM
hah yeah, the controller really sinked it for me. I loved some of those games, but that felt like you had one of those old tiger electronics game systems in your hands the whole time.
11/29/2005 11:02:35 PM
dreamcast led the way to pirating console games
11/29/2005 11:12:17 PM
11/29/2005 11:20:07 PM
hey, you dont like dreamcast. i disagree so ill say you dont know shit and then leave with no explanation. i understand the goddamn thing had some awesome games. it still blew my ass.
11/29/2005 11:31:22 PM
If you still stand by your original statement that the dreamcast sucks because you simply don't like the controller, then I stand by my statement that you don't know dick about video games and I'll also add that you're a fucking moron.See how taking one small negative piece of information about something or someone and making a huge bold statement based on it sounds ridiculous?
11/29/2005 11:58:52 PM
except i wrote that giant post up there why i felt ps2 was better, thus supporting my claim.added: not to mention the controller is one of the biggest aspects of any system (especially since many 3rd party controllers suck balls). my opinion on the dreamcast (a short lived system) really doesnt say much about my overall gaming knowledge or preferences.[Edited on November 30, 2005 at 12:05 AM. You weren't talking about how the ps2 was better than the dreamcast. You simply made a bold statement that the dreamcast sucked because of one little thing that you didn't like about it. And then you left and did something else (cause god forbid you do something else for a couple of hours after you make a precious post on TWW. Lord knows proper etiquette requires you to stay for a minimum of 6 hours hitting F5 every 10 seconds to see if someone has disputed your claims)And then I said you don't know dick about video games based on the one little bit of information that I had about your knowledge of the subject.See what I did there?
11/30/2005 12:09:37 AM
Whoa, F5 refreshes? Neat.And know I know!And knowledge is power!G I JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOE
11/30/2005 12:52:47 AM
The dreamcast was not backwards compatible. I had both the Saturn and the dreamcast.I don't know why the dreamcast takes so much heat. That system is where diminishing returns started to set in on graphics IMO. Sure the next gen consoles had better graphics but not by leaps and bounds like previous generation gaps. At this point I'd rather stick with my xbox, save $399, and forgo the 360 graphics. They are an improvement, but I'm not looking for improvements in graphics at this point. Better games would be more welcome. You could make Perfect Dark 0 for the original xbox and scale the graphics waaaaay back and it would still have the same level of fun as the one on the 360.The dreamcast controller was awkward but not the worst. The biggest problem was the cord that connected it to the console came out of the bottom of the controller. Who was the wizard that came up with that bright idea... although it did make for a nice commercial where John Madden was "playing" a dreamcast with the controller upside down.
11/30/2005 7:26:19 AM
ive heard various reports now (2-3) of ppl having them in stock for walk-ins. im sticking by my prediction that they'll be plenty by xmas.
12/2/2005 10:18:20 AM
Ha the Dreamcast memory cards had little mini games you could play on them. And I agree that the wire coming out of the bottom of the controller was just a stupid idea. The Marvel vs. Capcom games were so fun though. You could button mash like hell and do those crazy 120 hit combos.[Edited on December 2, 2005 at 10:57 AM. Reason : ]

M v C 2 was probably my fav fighter ever, but those minigames were pretty pointless
12/2/2005 11:44:03 AM
The only thing the memory cards were good for was for picking plays in football. It was nice having a little private screen that friends couldn't get ideas from.
