Charlie I'm saying that you can't just add a good rushing game to Jay's previous games because Jay's absence and the improved running game are causal.

Quote :
"we got over 100+ yard rushing games b/c brown can run the ball more than 3 yards per down, unlike baker and blackman"

RUSHING CAR YDS AVG TD
Andre Brown 104 575 5.5 5
Toney Baker 86 388 4.5 4

Actually their season stats aren't that different. The change in the rushing game comes from a much more inspired offensive line(possibly due to Stone being under center) and an increase in the # of attempts.

Quote :
"wtf, they can't receive the ball if the qb doesn't throw the ball...

and actually, if Stone had a passing game, we might very be 4-0 with Stone"

Stone throws the ball over 25 times a game. IF Stone had a passing game? He's barely under Jay's passer rating. He has a better TD/INT ratio.

Dunno why I'm still arguing with you, except that I'm bored at work. Stone's the right man for the job right now. If Amato would put Davis into the Maryland game for any reason other than Stone being hurt, not only would it be the wrong decision, but he'd catch all hell from the fans, and rightfully so.

Stone's completion percentage and accuracy is terrible

He has fewer INTs b/c he doesn't throw the ball as much

he also has a running game that will occasionally get him down the field so he can throw a 10 yrd TD pass, whereas Davis had himself to get downfield b/c the running game did squat

i still dont know how Maryland is supposedly becoming a rivalry game...now Virginia Tech...THAT is becoming a rivalry game...their first year in the conference we go up to their house and beat them barely, giving them their only conference loss of the year...then they come down here and barely beat us; their closest margin of victory of all their wins this year...THAT is the rivalry of the future

yup... agreed.

We also have a decent history with them. The '86 Peach Bowl was crazy. Our 7 games since have all been decided by a touchdown or less.

However many^

I wasn't saying that Jay needed to get credit for the 100+ rushing yards, I'm just saying it would have been a nice balance instead of needing him to pass the ball almost every play because the run game wasn't developing, much like CharlieEFH tried to clarify on my behalf.

Marcus Stone's percentage is a whopping 46.6%. That is really bad, considering all the trash everyone talked about how inaccurate Jay was, he is 60% on the season. So with that alone, the stronger arms goes to Marcus, the more accurate arm goes to Jay. And no he isn't throwing the ball 28 times a game, over the past 4 games he's averaging 21 attempts, and that's only because of a 30 attempt game at BC, take that game away and he's averaging 18 attempts a game. When Jay has started he only had one game with less than 25 attempts. The reason we were throwing was because the run game just wasn't there(and the one game he didn't throw much was the one game Toney Baker surged and whipped EKU).

Calling it now, if Maryland shows up on defense and can stack the box and take away the run, we will get destroyed. Marcus doesn't have the poise, the leadership, and more importantly, the experience, to take this team on his back and win a game. He has the arm, he just doens't have the mind-set.

I really think he is afraid to throw the INT, and I think he has some good reason for that. He saw Jay Davis come in last year, throw a few INT's and everyone turned on him, and then when Marcus threw a few INT's everyone turned on him too, so he's probably afraid he'll piss the fans off. But someone needs to tell him it's ok to throw a pick every now and then, as long as you are actually completing passes between the picks and throwing a few TD's.

Jay's completion percentage is higher becaues he checked off down low a lot, which padded those stats. The thing is, Jay's last few games...clemson and wake...were horrible, and his passing stats weren't that great against GT. Brian Clark caught almost all of his passes...2 for most of the yards.

We just couldn't sustain drives with Davis behind center. We cant sustain drives with Stone back there. Both of them have upsides that are outweighed by their inabilities.

oh, and the 1-0 stat against MD for Davis...is bogus. Our D won that game, and MD had an asston of penalties if I recall correctly. I mean geez, we scored a whopping 13 points.

Anyway, point of the story...I have a request:

Defense and O-line....Please show up on saturday. I'm begging to a computer right now. You have to do this for me.

Well the last 3 games we have 20, 10, and 24 points. That's not exactly mind-boggling. Our D combined with Andre Brown has won each of Stone's starts.

I think the QB switch was a good decision.

Stone wasn't great, but he contributed to the win. And now he has some experience to build on for next year.

yeah and while stone really didnt sustain any drives in the first half (no first downs), i still think he was the qb to go with because he will be here next year.

he was average at best

5 games and this kid can't complete more than one pass in the first half...

thankfully we have another marcus on defense

Stone is 4-1 as a starter so you lose.

Brown had what, 40 yards?

So Charlie, I want to hear you say now that the QB change WAS necessary, as per this thread topic and your initial post.

stone's stats for the maryland game: NC State-Stone, M.
12-19-1-113.

that is 63% completion percentage...not too bad but not awesome by any means either. He is never going to have a Rivers type game such as 22/24 or something like that but the finish to this season will give him a lot of confidence going into next year

he has all of the physical tools that you can ask for...big arm, capable of creating something with his feet....all that matters now is developing the mental phase and getting better at reading defenses. if he doesn't ever do that then oh well but he is still young in a new offense and will get more comfortable as he progresses

One more game of hearing CharlieEFH call the sun the moon. BTW, the game that decided the qb change was necessary occured way before the Maryland game. Also, way to pull one of your own quotes and declare yourself the winner We all have endured your belly aching for a good month about how the QB change ruined our chances at becoming bowl eligible. Sorry things didn't work out the way you would have liked them to

geez, this wasn't even a hate on marcus stone thread

stop spinning it into one

i gave three possibilities

one of them happened

that's all there is to it

[Edited on November 28, 2005 at 10:41 AM. Reason : i haven't even argued anything in this thread since before the game...]

[Edited on November 28, 2005 at 10:42 AM. Reason : nor did i claim myself the winner ]

So you admit that this one happened?

[Edited on November 28, 2005 at 11:43 AM. Reason : we came close to losing the game b/c we abandoned the pass with 11 minutes left in the game]
