A milspec or GI repro ( the only difference is the sights and a lowered ejection port) is about $400 from PDHSC. The stainless one is about $30 more. I think they are the best deal on the market, they have a lifetime warranty if you ever have a problem. I would feel comfortable with one as a ccw if I upgraded the sights ( $30 from brownells) and filed the hammer spur off a little if it bit me on the web of the hand. Its still a steel framed full size gun, though so its heavier than my current carry gun.As far as the original post, smith and wesson never set the world on fire with the 4 digit guns, but they were issued by many many police departments over the years. They say Ruger is the best gun a lawyer could design, they over build everything. That causes their stuff to be sorta blocky but very reliable. The DA/SA trigger pull is hard to master, unless you get DAO. Either gun would be fine to carry. Just dont get a .40 cal Glock, the muzzle flip is excessive and uncomfortable.
