from what i understand the rears up front approach (using 79-85 springs... 54" long I think) puts the front axle a few inches forward of the middle of the spring b/c of its pin being offset. A waggy spring would keep it centered on the leaf right? (I'm asking, not sure). What would be the advantage of running the waggy springs?

The 80-88 rears are 48" with a 20.5" short side89-95 rears are 51" and 21.5"The waggys are 48" with a centered pin. Not sure on the 44044sI'd stick with build a pack based off the 48" yota rears.

I posted for you on yotaman.com and a couple of my buddies have some they'll let go pretty damn cheap:http://www.yotaman.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=188if you're on nc4x4, 83yota on yotaman is 91yota on nc4x4, and RKBJR on yotaman is RKBJR on nc4x4.btw, nice marlin BLING... i'm jealous, that's my next upgrade.

raleigh area would be great... I know where some are but I don't want to have to take them off. Call me lazy, but shit like that is a pain.If we have too it'll be a battery powered sawzall and just cut the shackles/brackets off[Edited on December 7, 2005 at 10:58 AM. Reason : .]

RK is in Roxboro, one of my buddies who still goes to state is from there and is good friends w/ RK. He might be able to pick them up and drop them off at/around NC State.

yeah, personally i'd stick with yota rears as the base if you can get some. first gen. trooper rears have a nice pin offset/total length also.
12/7/2005 2:24:00 PM
Im using the trooper springs, they are 47" with 22/25 offset. Since they were SUA orginally they have more free arc to them. They seem to work well with no overload, the 3 stock leaves, and the 5th leaf from a 7 leaf waggy pack. I just wish they sat a little flatter loaded.
12/7/2005 2:59:36 PM
here's the plan for the pack:stock 48" older toy rear pack mixed with probably one mid size leaf from a newer set of toy rears chris already has and at least one sua wrangler leafhalf an overload to control wrapit should be enough to clear 37's... the rear set up will be (for now) stock rears with 2 extra leaves + an aal (already have) + longer shackles and overload[Edited on December 7, 2005 at 3:15 PM. any progress?
12/22/2005 7:34:28 AM
oh yeah, we had the front hanger and rear shackle tubes welded up tuesday night, then last night Chris took the cut off wheel and sawzall to the ifs. We've got pictures and will post them tonight. The axle is finished being rebuild, just waiting on a couple wheels studs from napa to finish assembly on one side.We had the ifs on the floor in an hour, and it wouldn't have taken so long if we didn't have to save the brackets for the lift kit thats already on it.

44044s are the same offset as a 7 left waggy. thats what i ran and liked them. good luck man i had alot of fun when nick, ivan and i did mine
12/22/2005 8:57:47 AM
^yeah, that was quite a time... doing a sas, changing rear to leaves, regear on your truck then sliders and a flatbed on mine. all in what, a week or something?
12/22/2005 11:06:02 AM
some stupidly short amount of time. but learning to not start on a project until every single part is in was priceless. fuck all pro and their bullshit shipping prices too

got the axle hung last night and the steering put on, hopefully will get the brakes hooked up tonite

the swap is done, for the most part. Using the rears up front plus a couple extra leaves left the truck at about 1" higher than it was (with a pro comp 4 inch IFS lift, probably about 5" w/ the t-bars cranked). Its a good height for 35-36" tires, but the damn pitman arm hits the tierod way too easily when compressing the drivers side. Broke down and bought some 5" springs from trail-gear (free shipping). Anyway the welding was done w/ Miller big 50 diesel stick courtesy of a friend. His big mig was down at the time. Springs and axle went on easily, no hangups. brakes installed, hubs, etc. Waiting on shocks (bilsteins) to be complete.

4.10's because i have a tacoma e-locker rearend installed and i dont wanna mess w/ re-gearing it...one day i'll stick in some dual cases...but for now it should be ok....here's a pic w/ the homemade front lift springs ...now it has some 5 inch trail-gear packs in the front due to some clearance issues...and after the new packs and with the custom rears installed:

OK something very stange happened the other day. Going to school the other day in chris's truck, the rear end lets go. I figure the spider gears have crapped out. It's a 89 V6 third with 4.10's, stock as stock can get. We take it out, and there are no peices missing, no metal shavings. the passenger side axle shaft splines are stripped off the last 1/4" of the shaft (most of the splined section is good)If you put your finger in the side gear where the shaft goes, the splines spin inside the diff, but the side gear, nor any of the spiders turn. It's like the splines pulled from the inside of the gear! Anyone hear of this before? we put in an old 4cyl third that works, but I think just replaceing that side gear would fix it.
