its my dad's, he got it from circuit city, and i was there,
we even bought the insurance, which i though we'd never get

in retrospect i have no regrets,
sometimes its better to go down the street to a radio shack
talk to the dude, and get something when its a big purchase

but if i need a pencil or something i go to ebay

Haha, radioshack.

Usually with big ticket items like that you can save as much as 40% off what circuit city and best buy charge by getting it from a place like jandr.com (been in buisness longer than bestbuy as a brick and mortor store in NY and NJ.) Shopping around does not mean looking for pencils on ebay (why the fuck you'd do that I have no idea) or talking to some dude at radioshack...

More work would be comparing offrbands that use/manufacture the screens that the name brands use, but I could definately understand people thinking that's too much work. But yeah, when I got my 32" LCD tv I saved 1400 bucks off of what best buy wanted for the same item by just getting it at J&R Music.

what's funny is that he thinks the sales people at retail stores know ANYTHING about what they are selling

NYC, think they have offices and distribution warehouses in NJ. Huge retail store in NYC itself, then really good online store too.

Depending on where you go...some sales people at retail stores actually know a hell of a lot about the products that they are selling....

yeah, some do, most don't. it's still best to do the research yourself a bit, and not just rely on what they say. also, around christmass time don't trust a damn word out of their mouths. they bloat their staff with temp workers and high school and college students who just need some quick cash, and most of them won't know an opitcal cable from the neuse their overweight jackass of a manager should hang himself with.

yeah, my friend just got a 37" sharp aquos, but he got an LG upconverting HDMI with the $100 surge protector and the $120 monster HDMI cable.

not too smart there.

so the $39.99 GE HDMI cable at Target is just as good as the $99.99 Monster at Best Buy?

yeah, basically. there should be no appreciable difference, since the GE cables are heavily sheilded. how long is it?

yeah, get the cheaper GE one. I mean the "cables to go" hdmi cables are like 30 bucks at the bookstore if you special order them and the 12 foot one I've got works perfectly, so I imagine the GE cable at 6 feet will be just as good baring defects.
