what a great film.i was really impressed by Reese's performance. It was great to see her take on a more mature role and get out of that legally blonde stereotype. I think i made the girlfriend mad b/c i kept google eyeing her everytime she came on screen. For some reason i just found her incredibly gorgeous in this film
11/28/2005 11:11:15 AM
I'm still awestruck and it's been two weeks since I saw it.
11/28/2005 11:56:27 AM
Johnny Cash is an American Icon and this movie does him justice.
11/28/2005 3:39:42 PM
I just saw the film last night and loved it!Quick question though....when we last see Jack in the hospital room, what was it sticking up in his shirt? I couldn't quite make out what happened...
12/4/2005 12:08:46 PM

12/4/2005 12:11:46 PM

that scene is like 5 minutes into the movie anyway.[Edited on December 4, 2005 at 12:32 PM. Reason : .]

was it the saw blade? Or a piece of wood?
12/4/2005 12:47:38 PM
Yeah, I thought it might be a piece of wood, but I was just wondering how in the world that happened. Yikes!
12/4/2005 12:56:28 PM
he got sucked into the saw. I think his body was almost cut in half and he stayed alive for 1wk
12/4/2005 12:59:55 PM
That's a nasty way to go...

I don't think my opinion on this movie is going to be incredibly popular on TWW, but here ya go...I think the acting was incredible. The whole cast was amazing, from Johnny to his father to Jerry Lee Lewis - great stuff. The thing that I did not like is that I felt like too much was missing. Instead of focusing on his life, I felt like the movie focused on his life as it pertained to June and pills. Yeah, I understand that he was hooked on both, but I just thought they focused on that so much that it took the fun out of the movie. I wanted to see the things that made him a cultural and music legend and icon. Instead, I saw what lead him to marry June Carter. I was really hoping to see more of the crazy stuff that gave him the reputation he has.I still think the moive was done well. Maybe it should have been eight hours long and covered all the good stuff.

I agree that there are some things that could have been added in, but according to John Carter Cash (exec. producer and son), he intended for the movie to chronicle the love affair of his parents, not necessarily Johnny's career.
12/4/2005 1:48:24 PM
^ Yeah, and that was obvious from the film. It just wasn't what I was expecting, or hoping for. I wanted to leave going, "Johnny Cash was a badass!" Instead, I kind of left going, "I just saw a love story involving a junkie."I just wish more emphasis was put on the music and the man.
12/4/2005 3:06:31 PM
Honestly, the music speaks for itself, and there are numerous documentary films and TV specials on Johnny Cash the badass cultural icon. If there's all that, why bother making it over again with actors? When you looked at Johnny and June, you saw two people who were literally inseparable. I hadn't seen that story before. I agree that the acting was superb; I completely forgot that Reese Witherspoon wasn't June Carter within five minutes of her appearance.

I've been a huge Cash fan almost all of my life (mostly thanks to my parents) so it's no surprise this is what my top 10 of 2005 list looks like.1. Walk the Line2. 40 Year Old Virgin3. Crash4. Wedding Crashers5. Batman Begins6. Sin City7. Cinderella Man8. Munich9. King Kong10. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
3/22/2006 9:56:21 AM
Haven't seen the movie yet, but I assume they conveniently forget to mention that he wrote "Walk the Line" for his first wife, not June Carter Cash.
3/22/2006 10:03:13 AM
I saw it on DVD the other day, and loved it. I've always been a JC and JCC fan
3/22/2006 10:06:39 AM
walk the line was awesome...and reese witherspoon sounded better than june carter...my gf had the soundtrack in the car for like 3 weeks straight...
3/22/2006 10:48:02 AM
3/22/2006 2:39:28 PM
when he sang "walk the line" he was staring at his first wife in the crowd (with the kids before the wife's comment to june carter) so i thought it was pretty clear...
3/22/2006 2:43:49 PM
Plus, if you listen to the fucking song (*GASP*), it's pretty clear that it's about John's situation balancing his career and family.

3/22/2006 4:17:29 PM
As I said, there are plenty of documentary films and specials about Johnny Cash, musical badass.
