12/14/2005 12:31:31 AM

12/14/2005 12:36:19 AM

CSC 226- BalikNever motivated me, never applied anything to CSC or even reality, some test problems were just out of nowhere. Sometimes she woud teach material after we had taken exams on it.
12/14/2005 2:10:09 PM
^ The problem with Balik is that she's just clueless. She also finds the one kid in the class who will ask questions when he doesn't understand it and will stop the class to make sure this one kid has the concept down. And then for the rest of the semester she will stop after explaining something to ask that kid if he/she understood. She's a nice lady though, and will help you out. I wouldn't say avoid her at all costs, but be prepared to deal with some idiosyncracies.

Re ^x whatever - Balik isn't bad. I didnt have her for 226 but for 333, and i didnt see much of a problem. Her tests were fair, reasonable, and she was reasonably good with the material. Rodman- CSC 226. I have no idea how he grades, but he is SO monotone I fell asleep 3/5 days of the first week of class, and proceeded to drop it to take it another semester with Bitzer (who Tiffany Barnes was helping teach that semester). If you can handle monotone, then i dont know.Gray- English Dept- I didnt have her, but almost all my friends freshman year did. She failed way the hell too many of them and has a serious prejudice against engineers that somebody needs to have her kicked out for.

Dr. Christine Grant - any CHE courseVery unorganized, makes simple concepts more confusing, should just stick with whatever research she's doing and leave the lecturing to better instructors. I could have gotten a lot more out of my momentum and heat transfer class, but she FUBARed that shit to where I had to struggle with the material on my own. And no matter what anyone says, Bird-Stewart-Lightfoot's Transport Phenomena textbook sucks dick.

Richard Bernhard, IE 311arrogant asshole who can't teach worth shitI know for a fact that i could have had at least a B in any other section, but his tests were ridiculously difficult.

I wouldn't go that far. I still think State's better off than the majority of major research universities.Never--not one single time--did I have a class taught by a TA (not counting lab sections, although in all of the labs for my major courses the actual professor was there as well). I don't think any of my friends that went to other big schools can say that.I do agree that there are a lot of shitty teachers out there, though (*cough* MAE *cough*).
