is anyone bringing tents or anything? i have a sleeping bag and pad but my tents are at home in clt. jw i don't mind sleepin around the fire or whatever
10/13/2005 10:53:37 AM
chris and I are both bringing tents and bags. depending on how many ride with us will determine if we have any room. At the minumum it's 4 including you, at the max its 7 including you. 3 and 3 in the tents isn't bad, and if everyone comes you or I can sleep in the 4runner. lay the seats down, throw in a sleeping bag and its actually quite comfortable. We're bringing some firewood to start out with, but it is the woods, hopefully we can scavage some too. I think the rules on this simply say you must fully extinguish the fire with dirt. Also, primitive camping is allowed anywhere on the trail system that is not "high traffic." There are a few nice spots to camp along the trail. One is the start of wolf den and another is at the bottom of a muddy hill on... some trail I forget.
10/13/2005 11:06:21 AM
i always stay at a spot on rocky mount loop near where daniel comes in. big enough area for 4-5 rigs easily, nice fire area, etc.
10/13/2005 12:51:38 PM
I always wondered if pulling off the trail to camp was considered "illegal" I guess if it looks established and there is no fence its OK. The 2 times I've camped on the trail like that i haven't had any trouble
10/13/2005 1:03:31 PM
unless something has changed recently, it's fine to primitive camp anywhere on the trail system (as long as you're not blocking it). fires are ok as long as they're in a safe pit/ring. scavenging dead wood from the forest floor is fine, but no tearing/cutting down existing trees/branches even if they appear dead.
10/13/2005 1:13:22 PM
yup, i've usually camped at dickey bell up at one of the bends. also camped on rocky mount, never had any trouble, and found lots of firewood! i'm cool with sleeping on the ground if i have too, i was just wondering
10/13/2005 2:13:32 PM
uwharrie is a national forest, so you can primitive camp anywhere you want.
10/13/2005 2:18:02 PM

10/13/2005 6:40:17 PM

10/14/2005 1:00:21 PM

10/14/2005 1:49:24 PM
i pm'd tawaitt but in case he doesn't get it... i can't leave raleigh till around 6 now, so i'll be up there around 7:30. if one/all of you could meet up with me around then? i'm thinking the parking lot that's inside the rocky mount loop, it's the one that's split in half by a gravel road.
10/14/2005 4:08:18 PM
bigblue i can leave at 6 if u want, i'm trying to finish a webassign and then i hafta pack. let me know we could meet at my house and leave from here, or whatever works for you
10/14/2005 4:09:36 PM

10/14/2005 4:22:56 PM
cool, lets meet somewhere on 64. there's a bojangles just before you get to apex, i'll probably grab some dinner there. meet there at say 6:15?
10/14/2005 4:38:31 PM
where do you live? close to state, bc if so we can just meet close and head out from here. jw if not the 64 idea is cool
10/14/2005 4:40:30 PM
yeah, i live close to campus but i'm going to be out doing a bunch of errands... last place i have to go is in cary, so it works best for me to just meet on 64.
10/14/2005 4:41:49 PM
ok so the bojangles on 64 then right?
10/14/2005 4:43:03 PM
yeah.. see you then. i'll be in a beat to hell dark blue 89 trooper.
10/14/2005 4:45:36 PM
kk 97 black tj on 35s 6:15 it is then, uhhh...how exactly should i get there? i'm an idiot with directions. is it near knightdale? [Edited on October 14, 2005 at 4:47 PM. Reason : .]
10/14/2005 4:46:06 PM
its the other way on 64. go down tryon like your going to cary, when it turns into 4 lanes it is 64, the bojangles is about 10 minutes on the right
10/14/2005 5:02:35 PM
so if i go down avent ferry i take a right onto tryon and then go that way? i'm sorry i suck so bad and directions
10/14/2005 5:06:00 PM
everyone get their junk fixed? lets see some pics/vids.
10/17/2005 1:54:47 PM
yeh put them pics up. jeepman told me about the carnage and also the tube buggy that backed up kodiak. I wanna see some proof. Jeepman's carnage (accourding to him) is listed as:1. Broken shock mount2. Broken rear sway bar link3. Broken oil pan skid4. Minor dents in oil paneveryone list their carnage. it's always entertaining to laugh at other people's misfortunesmy carnage for the weekend:1. two consecutive 12 hour days at the speedway dealing with drunks and lowlifes, and still not being able to see the race. DAMNIT
10/17/2005 2:17:29 PM
Jeepman- listed abovetawaitt- none i know ofdcwalton- stripped warn hubWhitexj96- little damage to the passenger rocker and a leaking radiatorTuite- broken side glass/minor body damageBigBlueRam- just some more body damage, mainly to the rockersi'd have to say the funniest thing i saw over the weekend was the guy with the brand new GC that had to be winched sideways because he was 1 inch from a tree (holding up 8-10 vehicles for 30 minutes in the process). what a queer.[Edited on October 17, 2005 at 2:52 PM. Reason : .]
10/17/2005 2:48:28 PM
yeah.....since the radiator pretty much went I had to get pulled by my friend with a tow rope to my grandmothers house about 8 or 10 miles down the road. Its all good tho. Also I just wanted to say that some other ppl from NCSU are going to go to Uwharrie the first weekend in Nov. if anybody wants to go I will be going as long as I get the radiator fixed
10/17/2005 2:57:38 PM
i guess ill never understand why it's fun to break this shit offroad. well it's fun going offroad, i would be too pussy if i had a nice vehicle to mess it up..now bigblue's truck on the other hand.. haha i would drive that mofo off a cliff and not care and laugh away lol.
10/17/2005 3:06:24 PM
lol. that's why you don't take something you care about messing up. if you do take something nice, be prepared to accept the possibility it might get some dents, scratches, or worse. if you can't handle that, stay the hell off the trails. it's not fun to break stuff, it's just something that comes with the territory of the hobby. same goes with any motorsport really.

My most memorable experience: whatching ivan's trooper light up its own undercarriage with backfires as he power shifted back and forth b/t 1st and reverse for a solid minutei'll add pictures tonight[Edited on October 17, 2005 at 3:40 PM. Reason : .]

how'd the troop do Ivan?Only body damage? Must not have pushed her that hard. Did it have those Duelers I gave ya on it?
10/17/2005 4:12:33 PM
this thread is worthless without pics
10/17/2005 4:14:48 PM
i'm ready to see some pix i have a few but my camera died. my stuff is all fixed except for the oil pan skid, but that's just needing some silicone, did get a few dents in it though. i have some good pix of ivan, he def. made the trip a whole lot more fun. any good pix of me? just wondering and can i get everyone's pix on discs or email? my email is pntballer88@aol.com
10/17/2005 4:33:36 PM
^^^it did good as usual for stock. no, i wouldn't say it got it easy... it got my typical right foot planted driving. it's pretty hard to destroy anything in the drivetrain with stock tires and maybe 90-100hp. i got rid of the only weak link (auto hubs). yep, i'm still milking those duelers, lol. i haven't been driving it a whole lot the past 2-3 months though.

i am planning a trip the first weekend in november (Whitexj96, not sure if you heard about it through facebook or not) but my buddy back home is trying to work his schedule out (87 4runner, solid axle, 37 IROKS) and his uncle just bought a military hummer so he is trying to get him too. I have some small wrench time I need to put into mine to get it ready, and contemplating dropping a little dough on a rear aussie locker. definately going though if there are enough people interested and my schedule allows.
