Yeah that's what I said, I'd be tempted to turn it sideways and go old school, haha.

Sword fighting would be awesome. It would be interesting to see any Prince of Persia applications.

What a piece of shit. That is retarded.
9/15/2005 11:33:28 PM
I can't wait to TRY it out somewhereLooks very cool
9/15/2005 11:35:17 PM
Wow. So that definitely surprised me, but it didn't exactly set my world on fire. I think they can make this work, but it's definitely something altogether new. While some speculate that this will make games hard to port to the Revolution, the thing has controller ports for Gamecube controllers and the Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers are essentially the same as their predecessors, so it shouldn't be that hard.
9/15/2005 11:35:53 PM
I mean, yeah, I'd like to try it, but it just seems kind of ridiculous. Maybe there's some super innovative way of turning it into wonderful gameplay, but I just don't see it.
9/15/2005 11:37:41 PM
i love it. i mean ill have to try it to decide whether i like using it. but i love that they are doing something different. and reading IGNs demos of the control make me reallllly wanna mess around with this thing

9/15/2005 11:43:46 PM
ha ha ha, IGN is running way slowyou nerds are breaking it!
9/15/2005 11:47:33 PM
nintendo clearly knows what its doing. they cant win by doing the same shit -- they are being out muscled. lets face it, there will be shortcommings (for all we know perhaps there will be controller backwards compatibility) BUT there will be really cool new shitFPS, grappling, light sabers, starfox-esque space fighting, or simply looking could all be revolutionized.
9/15/2005 11:51:25 PM
If I wanted to swing a light saber I would buy a fucking light saber. On Tatooine.
9/15/2005 11:52:26 PM
9/15/2005 11:52:52 PM
I'm all for it too and can't wait to try it. I hope Nintendo has a good stratagy behind the system with a lot of game ideas because I think the most difficult hurdle would be from 3rd party support. Getting those popular games across all platforms would be difficult for Nintendo because of having to redesign entire game mechanics. Looks like Nintendo is definitely going for that Apple niche.
9/15/2005 11:53:31 PM
I wasn't expecting this at all. I thought it would have like a screen in the middle or 3D projection or something. But not a freakin remote. I can see how FPS, RPG, and RTS games would work perfectly w/ this new controller. I think it would be great but I can't see how you can play other game genres. I seriously still can't see how you can play Smash w/ this controller or some fighting game. I didn't see any big 3rd party developers on board w/ this system besides those 3 mentioned on IGN. I just hope the Resident Evil series will continue on this system and really, really, really good games and good 3rd party support. Otherwise, Nintendo will just fuck themselves up again.

i love azns, this is gonna rock.

Well this is interesting for sure. Here are a few thoughts that have gone through my head. First, why are so many people worried about whether or not you can use a standard controler with it? The thing is going to be backwords compatable with all of nintendo's systems and has 4 Game Cube ports on it. Second, rumble pack technology has never really meant anything to games. Woo I get a rumble, woopty-fucking-do. But as sensitive as they were making it out to be in the hands on article, it sounds like this will be the first time that the rumbling of the controler will actually affect the game play. Imagine playing a first person shooter and you get shot. When you take a hit, the controler starts to rumber. But because its so sensitive, your screen starts to shake and it makes it difficult to aim. Not exactly an earth-shattering thing, but it will be interesting to see how people take advantage of this.My biggest concern is that I know that I tend to move my arms around when playing a game as I get more involved. Having a controler that measures every movement of your arm has it atvantages, but what happens when you play for a long period of time? What happens if you get excited and jerk real fast?It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.
9/16/2005 12:17:14 AM
then its time to put the game away

why the fuck are they connected with a cord? seems stupid. its one thing to swing your arm, another to take your whole body with that swing.^video shows good potential.[Edited on September 16, 2005 at 12:59 AM. Reason : -]
9/16/2005 12:58:41 AM
the thing has gamecube controller ports, so I'm just gonna use my hori digital pad for the old school games:[Edited on September 16, 2005 at 1:02 AM. Reason : also, how fucking awesome would it be if they made duck hunt work with that thing?]
9/16/2005 12:59:04 AM
Looks interesting and promising.2 huge "off the top of my head" complaints:Try getting the EA Sports team to make MVP Baseball '07 for Xbox 360, PS3, then writing ENTIRELY NEW CRAP to make that controller act like the bat, escp. when Nintendo software sales net them the least money of all 3 systems. And I'm very pissed as I doubt that controller will work with a projector setup. Most light guns and the like won't work without an actual television set of some kind to hit.
9/16/2005 1:14:54 AM
^EA has already said they intend to adapt their sports games to work with it.I would definitely buy a Madden game that let me get inside the QB's helmet, pull back, and throw the ball precisely where I wanted it, leading the receiver or whatever, over something that looks a little bit nicer and plays like the last 5 Maddens on PS3 or 360.[Edited on September 16, 2005 at 1:20 AM. Look I don't know what they're going to do but the VP of EA said this so I think they have plans:"Game control is essential - it's the area where perhaps the most game-play improvement can be made," said John Schappert, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Electronic Arts Canada. "While our portfolio represents a full array of titles across all genres, I think our sports titles might be the first to immediately take advantage of what this novel 'freehand' type of control has to offer."

^its shaped like a rectangle so you can image it as many kinds of objectsits just an easy shape
9/16/2005 2:11:05 AM
I would speculate that such a controller would require a lot of arm movement, instead of just thumb and finger pressing. I think long gaming sessions would become tiring.
9/16/2005 2:18:18 AM
OMFG GOD FOBID WE BURN A FEW CALORIESthis is what we want, we want that fusion...for the sake of our collective health. i made a thread a little while ago about how the eventual direction of video games will involve a lot of physical immersion. its the only way to up the intensity.[Edited on September 16, 2005 at 2:26 AM. just wait for the brain wave reading console no movement required
9/16/2005 2:28:07 AM
Imagine having to hold the remote up to watch television. Im sure your arm would get sore after an hour. Its not an aerobic activity, its just pure strain.
9/16/2005 3:00:26 AM
^image having to hold up your arms to hold a controller
9/16/2005 3:03:34 AM
You can hold a controller while resting your wrists on your lap or knees . I dont think you can do the same with the revolution controller and still have the degree of pointing/maneuvering control that you'd need for a game.[Edited on September 16, 2005 at 3:27 AM. Reason : musnt forget roll-eyes, the mark of a true intellectual ]
9/16/2005 3:24:48 AM
i rest my forearms on my armrest. in games that just need pointing, id be fine.
9/16/2005 3:35:27 AM
anyone else think it's strange that the back of the remote thingy has a battery cover?it seems strange that with today's standard of rechargeable electronics (cell phones, psp, gba, ipod) they're gonna have people buying batteries all the time...here's the pic i'm talking about (don't wanna post it cos it's huge)http://cubemedia.ign.com/cube/image/article/651/651275/hands-on-the-revolution-controller-20050915054945878.jpg[Edited on September 16, 2005 at 3:38 AM. 9/16/2005 3:37:32 AM
^could be a rechargeable battery pack. or could just be very battery efficient, like wavebirds are.I doubt you'll be replacing them "all the time"
9/16/2005 3:45:21 AM
I think flight sims like Pilotwings and Starfox have potential since you could hold the controller like a flight stick.
9/16/2005 7:24:34 AM
1. the ign guys were extremely impressed with the way it handled, and since none of us have had that the chance to actually use it yet, i don't mind taking their word for it until it actually comes out.2. you can plug a gamecube controller into the box as well, so i don't think anything is being lost here[Edited on September 16, 2005 at 8:07 AM.
